I think I had posted this previously, but the images have been lost, 4F tender at Bitton with at least 4 liveries discernible through the rust.

At the NLR Lamport, Northants, this large Collett tender sits alongside a Hall chassis, I am sure I can see Great Western through the rust.  What do you think, look closely…

I think its British Railways (written in full) rather than Great Western. That's the 1931 - 1946 production tender chassis, and most of those would not have ever carried the words Great Western.

Considering its not been painted in decades, its holding out pretty well for rust.

The Didcot castle tender ex OC/ZG in the 1980’s is rusted through.. even 7808’s has rusted holes right through it and its been painted and indoors for 40 odd years

This was what I was seeing, lettering below rusty shapes:

And overlaid:

Doesn’t look right to me, perhaps this was a preservationists work at some point in more recent history…?

I don't see anything I'm afraid, having resolved my confusion with your other picture.

According to the VCT list that's a 1931/2 tender so could have carried "Great Western" when it was brand new, but since then there should have been GWR roundel, GWR and/or G crest W and various  BR liveries including Departmental ones, and I don't see any sign of those either.

I remember the tanks of 5193 where you could see the remnants of about half a dozen liveries showing through. Always more visible in the rain.

GREAT WESTERN

Roundel

GWR

BR Early Crest

Different sized BR Early Crest

BR Late Crest

There was also bits of BR lined black and BR lined green visible.

Unfortunately the tanks and bunker were the worst parts of the loco. Both had suffered heavy corrosion due to water trapped inside whilst at Barry. That's why the WSR converted it to a Mogul.
