GraFar OO 2 pole motor replacement

I was wondering how she managed tp shift 3 Farish Pullmans*, but then realised they are the later product from the sixties.

I should have realised at once - they are nice and straight!

* As well as being invariably curvy - the one I had as a boy showed signs of this after a very short period - they are exceedingly heavy and suffer from high friction bearings.

I must finish remotoring my King and Black 5. My Prairie has a later chassis and I'm still looking for a Merchant Navy. I have a Rivarossi NYC Hudson, so don't need a Farish one.... (Plastic Kitmaster and Revell kits don't count!)

Noticed this after it finished on e bay  today , what I assume to be a G/F Hudson tender chassis It was in a job lot of chassis's, a nondescript H/D Duchess , a Triang bob and an unknown , £36+ . A bit of a beast , size wise

Another possibility from AliExpress (who I've never used), although it might be a bit too unstable for a loco-tender connection?

Also watch out for customs charges. Or rather the exorbitant charge for collecting these! There used to be allowance for small orders, but this has been abolished.

AliExpress are registered with HMRC for VAT collection, so their should be no hidden costs.

Link? Or has it already gone?

Also yes, GraFar Hudson chassis, I honestly had no idea they used that 2 pole motor until recently…

Maybe! I ordered some bits from China on on eBay  (despite putting 'UK only' in the search! - I only realised after placing the order), but they arrived without problem .

So that's what the innards of a Farish Hudson look like! I thought they used the same DC motor as the Formo 0-6-0. There's no shortage of space inside the boiler/firebox of these beasts!

Decided to rewatch Kleedham’s video showcasing his GraFar black five, and came across this interesting solution for the motor/gearbox coupling…

IMG_9680.jpeg.32c7ad4e56202ba466db1712144bb047.jpeg

A notch has been cut out of the motor pinion, to which it slots around a suitably sized rod, mounted on the shaft for the first gear reduction, a simple coupling I could probably pull off rather easily… If I can find my Dremel…

Also decided against using the Triang motor, instead I’ve plans to use a motor from an Airfix prairie tank, I’d built one of the Dapol kit bodies in 2022 on the GMR chassis, but the chassis has been giving me all sorts of problems since then, motor is fine though, so whilst the prairie gets a new chassis (a modified Triang Jinty chassis like what I’ve used under other prairie models), it’s old, beefy motor is going in the 5MT.

This was on eBay last week and went for £39.95 plus postage , a farish body but an early triang princess tender body . Split tender chassis? for pickup and original traction tyres .

If I see enough of these already "converted" it may spur me on to have a go , hmm

Spot the errors:-

This Graham Farish steam locomotive, model number 45156, is a beautiful addition to your model train collection. It is a replica of the iconic Coronation Class and features a 4-6-2 wheel configuration, accurately representing the original British Rail locomotive. The corporate livery of British Rail is also faithfully reproduced, making it a great choice for enthusiasts and collectors alike. The scale is 1:148 and the gauge is OO. The locomotive has been tested and is in good working condition, ready to be added to your layout. The black colour gives it a classic and elegant look that will complement any railway scene.

There's also this lot!

It always worries me when the seller can't even take a photo, with the loco on the track.

Is there a specific reason, such as it's been converted to EM or even P4? Unlikely, but how can anyone take a photo of the item and not notice that it's not even close to being on the track?

Hopefully, they don't take the photos first thing in the morning, forgetting the mirror in the bedroom!

Here is another ebay special , what attracted me was the AI / verbose description

Yes, it stinks, doesn't it? There seem to be a lot of those crass and often inaccurate descriptions lately a.k.a. bovine waste.

"The scale is 1:148 and the gauge is OO"  🙄
