RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 27, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2022 Still soaring in the air, we see a Grimsby local about to end its journey. Then it is back to the ground to observe Aboyeur pulling in with the 6.10 Leeds.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 27, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2022 Aboyeur waiting time. A monochrome attempt, but not quite what I was wanting. Now for something really irritating, Lovely clean A3 on the Heart of Midlothian, but what happened to the headboard? It wasn't that crooked when I put it on, I'm sure. 28
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 28, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 28, 2022 A different angle doesn't make that headboard look any better. No headboard for a J6 on a trip working.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 28, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 28, 2022 A poor image to start with tonight. The 6.20 Leeds, not very sharp and a strange colour. Next is the 5.35 Up Leeds, and this one is a bit better.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 29, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 29, 2022 A3s now meet at the north end. Galtee More has stopped, but Sandwich will continue to slowly pass through.
RMweb Premium 30368 Posted April 29, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 29, 2022 I know that I have enthused before but every day this thread gives me joy, long may it thrive and thanks very much Gilbert. Kind regards, Richard B 1
RMweb Gold ikks Posted April 29, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 29, 2022 This thread reminds me so much of the times at Grantham in the late fifties, lovely times, except for being "put" on the train back to Derby Friargate an excruciatingly long journey it used to seem, after watching the magnificent procession of East Coast Pacifics. Wished I could still do it though. Brilliant modelling Gilbert .....Thank you Rgds......Mike
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 29, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 29, 2022 Galtee More is off the end of Platform 3, as it has 12 on. However, out lovely little J15 at Platform 6 has a much more manageable load. 34
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 30, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 30, 2022 Sandwich continues to roll through, while the N5 is about to buffer up and give Galtee More a helping shove on its way. Our second man also gets us this angle on 60039. He got this before the N5 got in the way, obviously.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 30, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 30, 2022 A glorious day here, which saw the end of the sequence once more. 136 days to do 366 moves this time. Excitement starts here, as next time I run trains it will become Saturday, and you will see a different procession of trains. Not for a while yet, as I'm still posting images from a while back, so it is only 7.55pm, at which time a B1 arrives from Grimsby, and another Grantham A3 brings in the 6.35 KX- Hull.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted April 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 30, 2022 Just catching up after a fortnight away, and today I see the N5 tottering about - happy day. The Pullmans are lovely, I have a soft spot for them, but not pulled by an N5!
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 1, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 1, 2022 Pretty Polly waits at Platform 3. While this 02 has to take its load of coal around the Up slow.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 1, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 1, 2022 A very welcome visit today by Peter Leyland, almost unbelievably getting on four years since his last. Mainly spent putting right things which had slipped a bit, or which had been annoying me for some time. I'll record those and post them in due course. For the present though, more evening happenings, as the 02 crosses the formation to get back to the Up. It can do that, as the B1 is still simmering at Platform 2.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2022 A rear three quarter view of an A3 is a good way to start a day. Then we have a K3. We don't see many of those south of New England, which only had five of them in 1958. This is one of them, in charge of a Welwyn Garden City to Colwick Class D.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2022 As usual I am avoiding bank holiday traffic and crowds, and so decided to take some photos showing the work Peter Leyland did yesterday. I will start with the signal at the North end of the Up platform, which has never been properly bedded in, thus giving it the opportunity to deviate slightly from vertical with out my noticing, and the camera the opportunity to exaggerate that out of all proportion. It won't be doing that again. I'm not going to photoshop all of these, this view being a particular sod to do. I'm wondering if some strip LEDs at the bottom end might be a good idea to try to avoid the camera rendering everything into very similar shades of grey. The next problem was one of the water cranes on the Down side, which was far too tall.We ran out of time to deal with it when Peter was last here, but this time it got dealt with. Another angle on that. I like this view. Then we turned our attention to things which had been affected by heat over the years, despite my keeping the blinds closed. You may have noticed that this wall had taken a lean to one side. Not any more, as Peter has packed it with microstrip. Screen keeps freezing, so I'll post these and try another browser.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2022 OK, I'll try again. In straightening the wall, the canopy on the right got moved, so Peter made sure all the columns were in line again. The knock on effect of the wall moving was that the joint between buildings further along got opened up. That became quite noticeable, and I couldn't always crop it out of images. You were all kind enough to keep quiet about that, but I wanted to see if Peter could put it right. Of course he could.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2022 Oh dear, it froze again. I fear it may be a fault on here. We shall carry on. Crescent Bridge signal box was next. That has never been bedded in, partly because I couldn't make my mind up how I wanted to develop this area. Job now done.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2022 No cursor to move to next image now on Google chrome, so I'll try Firefox again. Another angle on the signal box. And I have the cursor. No idea what is going on. Still one more job in progress, but I'll keep that under wraps until it is finished. I did a few plonks as well, but I'll have a break now to let my blood pressure subside. 25
RMweb Premium 30368 Posted May 2, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 2, 2022 (edited) Although I have never met you Gilbert I feel I know you from all your work on this outstanding thread. I really like this latest series of images, despite all the frustrations you have experienced, they provide a further insight into your modelling. The last two signal box images suggest that the large tree next to the box has had a major mishap? Knowing how you strive for visual and operational accuracy I suspect that the tree actually did topple over in the late 1950s? Many thanks, Richard B Edited May 3, 2022 by 30368

Many thanks, Richard B At the moment, it is just there lying on its side to fill a gap. I haven't decided what is going to be put in that area yet. The problem is that once under the bridge I have departed from reality, and so to put in things that really were there may look completely wrong. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2022 Typed a load of rubbish just to see if the screen would freeze. It didn't, so the problem seems to be on here. Will I be allowed to finish this? The 5.15 from Hull comes in behind an immaculate A1. While at Platform 6 Silver Link waits with the 8.10 to Grantham.
