I do particularly like these views along Station Road. So reminiscent of many a walk to the station.

Agree, I have long thought that the Thompson Pacific's were dramatic looking beasts and the fabulous weathering of 60500 (not to mention the re-paint) just emphasizes the brute power of these locomotives. Grace and pace though are not words I would associate with Thompson's pacific's.....

And so to the final goodie from Monday's visit. A few weeks ago Geoff West showed me an A3 he intended to sell, and on which he had done a very nice weathering job. I succumbed to temptation, and it went to Tim to acquire a new identity, as I already have 60049 which it used to be.

 

I have a spreadsheet which has all the A3s in order of my personal preference, and I've now got into the 20s, though it is still a long way to 78. This was the next in line, but I do wonder if I am going to get into trouble.

For some reason I particularly like an A3 with a GN  tender (think that is correct?) and that one is stunning blown up on the screen of my now rather elderly macbook.

Just a mix of transfers; two curly 6s add a little bit of extra fuss, especially now I slice the back off the 6 a little, to lose the excess width.  Usually it's just the first digit, so it's not much of a bother, but this one put up a fight (in my way of thinking)!

Well, I'm biased I know, but I don't think there is anything to beat the look of an A3, and the GN tender, which indeed it is, suits them best too.

Another look at Huddersfield Town, before it heads off to the east.

 

 

and waiting in the wings, or more correctly the carriage sidings, is a V2 waiting to bring in the stock for the 7.25 stopper to London.

The 7.25 KX is now at Platform 2.

 

 

Ten minutes later, the Doncaster Parly is beginning its slow journey.

A question for you, and please don't cheat and look it up. Was a Thompson Pacific longer than a Gresley, and if so, by how much?

I take it it's an earlier Bachmann example, repainted? 

 

There's not much weight being taken by its leading pony!

One of the two that Ian Rathbone improved and repainted for me about 20 years ago. It now has a new chassis, so it could be good for 20 years more. I shall try to keep up with it. As to the airborne pont truck, quite simply the camera sees better than I do.

The first East to Leicester local of the day, Compound hauled.

 

 

And from the North, another familiar train, the 7.30 Grantham-KX, but again with a rather different formation.

41157 on the way out meets 60049 on the way in.

 

 

and while the A3 waits, a WD brings coal empties along the slow.There is still time to get a few more of these through before the constant flow of expresses gets going.

Followed by the 5.50 KX-Grantham slow, and yet another V2.

A view back along Platform 6 this cloudy morning.

 

 

and the fish empties still have to get to Hull, even on a Saturday. though the train runs rather earlier than during the week.

Still with the fish empties, but now approaching Spital Bridge. These were taken before the arrival of the LED lights, and during experiments with different colours of backscene card. This first one was with the original white background, which the camera always turns into the same shade of grey as the signals.

 

 

then I tried a blue background behind the signal on the Down slow, which always causes the most difficulty.

 

 

and zoomed in on it a bit. As you can see, it made little or no difference.

Some of us use artists mounting board for  back scenes so the idea definitely has potential.

March B17 Welbeck Abbey brings in the 8.21 arrival from March.

 

 

Not a long train, but a very nice one, so here it is.

We have the obligatory shot of a B17 posing at Platform 6.

 

 

and the early morning Grimsby local comes in to Platform 2. It seems that all of Immingham's many B1s are employed elsewhere, so a borrowed Director gets the job.
