This is the A4 which shouldn't have a double chimney in August 1958. That means that for the time being it is November. Like the first photo. It really shows off the A4 lines. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 10, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 10, 2019 More Gannet tonight. Another shot from up on the bridge. I tried it without photoshopping, but the white board in the background came out grey. We can have a look up at the North end as well. Headboard has slipped again. Tacky wax sometimes isn't very tacky.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 11, 2019 One last look at Gannet this morning. and then, somewhat appropriately, a load of fish. 61200, in typical Top Shed condition, has the Up Hull fish to the capital.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 11, 2019 Today was hot, the golf course was hilly, and my electric trolley packed in after just two holes. All sytems showed green, but it would not budge. After pushing the thing for four hours, I was fatigued. I still am. More pictures showing the progress of the shiny B1, and its aromatic cargo. 30
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 12, 2019 Quick photos, then I must go and find out why my trolley won't work. We have one more of the fish from ground level. One clean Top Shed loco is then replaced by another, as 60854 runs through with a KX Goods- Dringhouses Class C.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 12, 2019 The trolley wasn't very well at all, but it is getting on a bit, so what with the cost of repairs and a shortly to end part exchange offer I've finished up with a new one, which has cost me the equivalent of several A4s. But then I have enough of them, don't I? The 5.35 down Newcastle was one of Grantham's premier duties, so it is only to be expected that they would use their newly outshopped and first double chimney A3, isn't it? Well, they did, and here is Prince of Wales in all its finery. The extraneous objects in the background once again only appeared after I had finished shopping, and it was too late to erase them. I was not prepared to start all over again, so please concentrate on the foreground, which shouldn't be too difficult.
RMweb Gold Brinkly Posted July 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2019 Hi Gilbert, I've really enjoyed your thread, despite being a Western man! The modelling is superb. I wish I had room to build an ex GWR mainline layout at home. Kind regards, Nick 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 13, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2019 Cameras remained focussed on 60054 as it slowed and then stopped for the regulation four minutes. Now I must learn how to use my new trolley, which like most new things will probably be smarter than me. 24 1

Gilbert, I think most of us wouldn’t notice the extraneous objects in the background if you didn’t point the out. In fact, even now you’ve pointed them out, I can’t see what the problem is. There is no such thing as a perfect photographer, only perfectly proportioned steam locomotives, most of which seem to pass through Peterborough North , so please keep ‘em coming. 4
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 13, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2019 Bored with having feet on the ground, our men ascend, somehow, to get high level views. A local from South Lynn is the first to get this treatment. After which the 5.00pm from KX arrives, a five set giving A3 Tracery a very easy time.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 14, 2019 More from on high. Tracery has finished its journey, and is waiting to be released to new England for servicing. And another local from Grantham arrives, behind one of New England's better kept B1s.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2019 I say, you clever people, can you put your huge brains to work on this? I found a photo looking South from Crescent Bridge which for once didn't have any trains in the way, and it occured to me that just possibly it could be used to create a backscene to fill the empty expanse that is seen on shots under the bridge at present. I cropped it down to this, as I think it is about right for what could actually have been seen, but it really needs to be a bit longer, perhaps in both directions. I'm not at all sure about how much it should be blown up/ cut down to get the right effect. Anyway, here is the cropped version. I can scan the full photo again if necessary. Over to you, I hope. RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2019 Brain fade again. I forgot to post my first effort. Hopeless. sums that up really. Far too large for a start, as Nene sidings are quite a way away. And it tipped sideways while I wasn't looking. 11
mullie
However, gives an idea of what could be done. If scaled to a suitable size and colour it could work. Painted might be better than photographed in my view. Martyn

As Mullie says, perhaps a painted backscene would be better than a photo. Are there other photos available which would allow an artist to widen out the scene on either side? I believe the sloping 'bridge' is the conveyor which used to carry coal across the railway to the old power station; probably there are photos in existence which show what was at either end of it?

Yes, I agree that was the conveyor of coal to the power station Steve. On the left side was the power station itself, and I have tried in the past to do a low relief cut out of that. It didn't look right though, and though it was very obvious in photos taken from Spital Bridge, I suspect it wasn't visible from ground level. I'll have a look at other photos to make sure, but I think to the right would be the chord leading to East. Where can I find an artist?
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 14, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 14, 2019 Heart rate has now gone back to normal after that amazing cricket match, and we even won it too. No such happenings at PN, just a B1 resting while passengers alight. I'm getting better at cropping so as to avoid the need for digital manipulation. A short distance further North, A3 Tracery was heading off to New England for a rest.
stewartingram
Perhaps using photoshop filters to make it into a psuedo-painting? And I like the effect of it being hazy, not vivid colour too. Stewart 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 15, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 15, 2019 Burton on Trent today, warm, no wind, perfect for golf. So, perfect golf? Unlikely. Time for another well kept Grantham A3. The Heart of Midlothian approaches, but will not stop here.
Martin S-C
The reflection in the oily paintwork of the tender in that first pic is really nice. Reflections like that are very rarely seen in model form.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 15, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 15, 2019 I was right. Golf was far from perfect. In fact we came last, quite comfortably so, actually. Never mind, another look at a shiny A3. and then an easy job for an elderly lady.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 16, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 16, 2019 A plethora of well presented Grantham A3s to be seen in the last half hour. 60065 is next with the 6.20 Down Leeds.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 16, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 16, 2019 Knight of Thistle has come to rest, and one of our men has decided it merits another shot, despite interfering objects. Our lovely little J15 suffers no such distractions though. Personally, I think it looks its best from this angle.
