It took about two years to find this tender as is the way of it these days. A regular visitor to The Waverley Station and Haymarket Shed was Gateshead's favourite A4 Sir Charles Newton. There's a great colour photo of A4 60005 Sir Charles Newton standing on Haymarkets turntable, it's on page No 44 in the book "Steam Colour Portfolio Eastern & North Eastern Region" by the late Keith R Pirt who in my opinion was an outstanding railway photographer. The kit number is 8841. I built it along with the rest in the rake in 1991 and they are still going strong! The photo of 60005 which you refer to is a cracking shot at 64B and as you say Keith Pirt was a great photographer. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted September 17, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 17, 2014 A bit of bad weather a couple of days ago afforded the opportunity to check the layout as the Spring and Summer seasons have been busy with other things. After hoovering and cleaning the track a test train was run round yesterday headed with my final part of the Haymarket A3 allocation. 60090 was completed and ready for action earlier in the year but domestic tasks left it in a box along with a long list of modelling jobs. Here are a handful of shots of Grand Parade on its running in debut which it passed and is now part of the the 64B line up. kingfisher24 Posted September 21, 2014 Share Posted September 21, 2014 Its always good to look at this thread theres always plenty of ex nb and lner locos to see, while im here a quick question does anybody know if 60004 ever had anything other than black backed nameplates as i have almost finished using a spare chassis and railroad 60022 body with a tender using the tender from the gbl flying scotsman with all having a complete repaint etc. Did the loco ever have blue or red backed plates? 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

As the Haymarket contingent was complete the only alternative was for the new ground of a Kings Cross A4 and this is what resulted. A trio from each of the Sheds where the A4s were based. You mention a 1928 type corridor tender paired with 60033 pardon my ignorance but it this tender any different from the standard Hornby corridor tenders that comes with the likes of say recent Hornby A4's 60011 and 60027. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted November 27, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 27, 2014 Tony, The brass cover is the return crank bearing cover which is one of the many parts on the Brassmasters detailing etch for the A4s. They also produce one for the A3s as well. All my Hornby A4s and A3s have been fitted out with most of the Brassmasters etching parts. It took a while to do this year as once one was fitted out all the rest had to be! Ah yes, these curly and straight 6s are quite something for the LNER stuff illustrating yet again the requirement for having photos of the locos in the required time period. David, The corridor tender is the Hornby one. As you are no doubt aware it is a menace not being able to get spare tenders, however patience and perseverance are great things! 60011 had the 1928 type but 60027 ran with the later streamlined corridor tender. The difference with the one fitted to 60033 was that the rear end was reduced in height along with two others during the loco exchanges when trialing on the Southern Region to accommodate the different type of water cranes there. I sawed off a bit from the top and put on some plasticard beading then replaced the Hornby handrail knobs with shorter ones which improved the look.
