Also nice to see the smaller locomotives as well, what a collection of classes you have. When I look at your work and think ahead to progressing with my Haymarket layout you certainly set the bar at a very high level! But just the inspiration people like me need. Please keep the photos coming. Regards David Edited February 10, 2016 by landscapes
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted February 21, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 21, 2016 Following on from the previous photos, the J37 has now left the Shed and has crossed over the main lines to the Goods Yard to take up its next turn of duty - a most important freight.
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted February 22, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 22, 2016 Looking good Eric, hopefully I won't have too long to wait for my pint when the second wagon in the consist is delivered. Cheers Tony
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted April 6, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 6, 2016 With frequent rain showers over the last couple of weeks slowing down most gardening work I took advantage of this free time to tidy up the stock boxes. At the same time some locos were taken out for a run round the layout and here are a handful of the photos that survived the delete button. The tidy up started with the A4s so here are some of the locals from Haymarket along with a couple of regular ECML visitors to Edinburgh from Gateshead.

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted April 11, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 11, 2016 Davidw 60005 is slightly dirty but looked a bit more unkempt before getting a coat of Klear as I wanted it to get away from a matt finish. Attached is a close up of it which shows the early stages of that not cleaned look. I recall seeing it that way quite often at Haymarket and the Waverley. There are some colour shots of it in this state in some of the books/Colour-Rail slides in addition to the usual Gateshead grey look! David I have a supply of the LMS lamps but cannot get round to fitting them yet as there are a few things on the go on having just finished a J36 kit and have just started relocating the station building and goods shed on the branch baseboard which will take a few weeks work. It's all go! Hope that you are making progress on the Haymarket Shed model. Eric

Eric A4 60005 Sir Charles Newton.JPG Hi Eric Watch your fingers when drilling those new lamps out they really are very fiddly, I spent more time on the floor looking for them than actually drilling them but thank god all my locos now have them fitted. That last photos of 60005 is very good indeed, you have really achieved that oily rag look with your weathering and then finishing with Johnson's Klear, its amazing how it changes the look of a model to give far more realistic appearance. Unfortunately I never got to see 60005 in my transporting days in 1962 when I started it was quite rare in the London area. With regards to Haymarket, I know there has been no updates for quite a while but that is far from the truth. I have been busing working on setting out all the inspection pit positions with the great help of Norman Saunders of "Just Tracks", I believe he did most of Gilbert's Peterborough North scenic baseboards and I am very fortunate that he lives in Swindon just a few miles away. I am now about to glue all the Templot sheets he did for me to the first four baseboards, when thats done I will be able to cut out all the pits, including the turntable and wagon hoist pit below the coaling tower. Then all boards will be covered in 3mm thick cork and then finally track laying begins. Norman is also building all the hand made turnout points for me he will be starting the first three of about 26 required within the next few months, but there is plenty for me to do in the meantime including all the baseboard framework construction. its been great seeing more of your photos again. kingfisher24
Ive just finiahed a conversion of a gbl j39 to a j38 69521 which had a larger tender, i have all but finished the loco save for weight and a few tweaks here and there as i need it to haul long trains. One thing is the lubricator driven from the middle set. I have set it up and runs ok but not quite right i think as i am unsure of the correct degree of movement it should have. Has anybody a shot of a j38/39 with the lubricator as i no longer have any Bachmann locos to compare it with. Ps apologies for the giant green frog in the shot. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted May 20, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 20, 2016 After deciding to change the branch station design about a decade ago action was eventually taken during the last month or so. kingfisher24
Vaguely reminiscent of corstorphine in this shot - with bigger/different canopies perhaps north berwick as was. Very nice work. Gary

landscapes
Hi Eric Nice set of new photos, I must have missed your item No 416 back in May when you carried out alterations to your Branch Line station. i see you were laying cobbled stones to the station forecourt, may I ask who sheeting you used as I am thinking of using the same for the shed entrance road to Haymarket 64B rather than a tarmac finish as in my opinion it gives a bit more detail and realistic look. Great work as usual, you do set the bar high when it come to detailed modelling. Regards David
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted July 5, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 5, 2016 David, I used the Wills granite setts for that area. Once painted and weathered they are not too bad. The main thing to do before fixing them down is to shave off the recessed edges so that the joins are not too obvious. As a matter of interest, last year Harry Knox told me that the granite setts on the entrance up to Haymarket Shed were ripped up a few years ago to make way for the construction of our infamous tram line. They were the last remnant of the North British Railway still in use at Haymarket! Eric

Eric Hi Eric Many thanks for that, I wanted to use the Granite Setts because as I said I think they look better but now you have confirmed that they were actually there which is brilliant. Please keep the photos coming it's great inspiration for me. I am working hard on the baseboard construction now for Haymarket, just about to order the baseboard support framework timber. I thought it would be a good idea to get the baseboards up to a reasonable height before any track work starts it will be much easier to work on and to drill through for the track work drop down electrical connections. I am not sure on what height to build the layout to, I did read a good model railway layout viewing height is between 42" and 48" or 1066mm and 1220mm so I am thinking of a height of 1100mm or just over 43" Regards David

I do especially like 60538 and 60012, two locos I have but are not really appropriate for Yorkshire. Nice to see them running in their native environs.
