Guest Brighton_JunctionLNER
HI, ive been looking this thread for some time now, such an amazing layout. i do have one question, what did you use for all the point rodding? it looks wonderful. cheers Jesse
Markeg
I think it is Model Signal Engineering point rodding. It is finer than the Wills rodding. I bought a couple of packets of the Wills Point rodding to see what bits and pieces make up point rodding. I have made this up. It looks okay to me. I now understand a bit more of what makes up point rodding. Next time I plan to use the MSE items. google 'Wizard Models' and it will come up. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted July 6, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 6, 2017 Jesse The rodding cranks, pulleys, pulley wheels, rodding stools are all from MSE as Markeg writes. The rodding is from Plasticard strips. I cannot recall their exact size as it must be approx. 15 years ago when I installed them. They are that bit finer than the recently introduced Wills rodding. However, I used the Wills strips to finish off the point rodding in the branch station area last year. It looks OK once weathered in, all down to personal choice I suppose. Hope that this helps Eric
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted September 5, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2017 A new addition to the stock even although I did not require it but the offer was too good to turn down. So after many years in pristine order in a showcase it has had changes to identity and working condition for work on the layout. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted October 20, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2017 I have not had much free time for photographs lately with domestic tasks and gardening to the fore, however, I attach some photos taken over the last year or so with the Haymarket links out and about on their daily turns.
landscapes
Hi Eric Nice to see more of your new photos on your thread. In perticuler I do like the angle you have photographed both A1 60152 and A3 60041looking from under the trees, very nice. I have now finally finished the decorating of the room which houses my Haymarket layout so its now down to wiring up the track-work. RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted December 29, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2017 Great shots Eric, I’m particularly taken with the one of Sir Visto and the Talisman, but as you know about my Gresley Pacific affliction I suppose that’s no surprise! RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted December 29, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 29, 2017 Loving the east lothian scenes, such a lovely piece of work and what seems like a huge range of stock Many thanks. Quite often in running sessions I change things a bit and feature stuff running into north west Edinburgh on the Aberdeen line. As I do not have enough space for a longish section of relatively straight track that is why I could not model a prototype location. This, however, gives the advantage of running a greater variety of stock but still keeping the atmosphere of the approaches to Edinburgh. For example the A1 Madge Wildfire from Gateshead in the above set, although seen frequently in East Lothian on turns from Newcastle, was also used a few times by Haymarket on a quick turn up to Perth and back. I vividly recall seeing it on the steeply canted curve at Broomhall in the western suburbs on the Aberdeen line heading into the Waverley hammering along in 1960 and 1961. It fairly made some noise along that fast straight section from the Forth Bridge to Saughton Junction! - Happy days.
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted December 29, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 29, 2017 Lovely as always Eric. I don't remember having seen the K2 before though. What is the provenance of that one, please? Many thanks Gilbert. The K2 is a Nu-Sto one before the name change to Nu-Cast. It was released sometime in the late 70s and I got a customer who came into the bank branch I worked in at that time to get his father, who had a workshop in his garage for his model boat making, to make up a pair of brass frames using the Nu-Sto white metal chassis as a template. Like quite a number of my stuff it has not really had a great deal of running as after it was built it took about another 20 years until I had a layout! Not having a layout meant that in those days, when an appropriate kit was released, I was able to build it within 6 months from purchase, as that was all I could do model railway wise. It is frightening thinking about where the time has gone since it was built as I can still remember building it on my grandfather's small work table, which I still use, with my beloved ginger tom cat lying on the floor beside me. My wife was too busy going to yoga classes so there was plenty free time available each week to bash on! Eric

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted January 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 8, 2018 Great news from Hornby confirming what had been "doing the rounds" over recent times that a J36 was coming. Starting with the GEM kit of the class in the early 70s then 20 odd years later the Crownline kit and now yet another 20 odd years later a ready to run version. Great stuff. RMweb Premium great northern Posted January 8, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 8, 2018 I'm pleased and relieved that the rumours turned out to be correct, Eric. It was long overdue, and should be a very attractive model. I cannot think of any excuse for getting one myself, but I look forward to seeing one when you next visit. If it had been a D30 though, that would be a different matter.

I have already placed an order with Hattons for Model Ref No R3622 as 65311 Haig in BR Black with early crest. I know Haymarket had two named versions of the J36 Class on their allowcation but from your expereince do you know if 65311 ever visited 64B, also I would have preferred the late crest but I can change that without any problems if I need to. Please keep the photos coming it's a great inspiration and I am always amazed at the variations you have of locomotives and rolling stock, great stuff.
