RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted February 18, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2017 Another great selection of images Eric. I'm particularly struck by your weathering of the Gresley non-corridor stock, it's very well done. Cheers Tony
R16v
Hi there I'm always astounded by the skills you have in you're locos and layout love the feel you have captured. was wondering how big is the layout, I would love to see a pic of the hole thing if pos as you have captured a lovely part of the countryside.. Andrew F
Stunning photographs as usual. If a had to pick a best it would be picture 6. Beautiful! The attention to the finish of each individual locomotive or piece of rolling stock does not go unnoticed. The right amount of gloss, fading or filth on the paintwork is crucial for the time and region and you've hit it bang on.

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted February 19, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 19, 2017 My wife and I have been out visiting relatives for most of today and now, after tea, I have some free time! Many thanks gentlemen for your kind comments, most appreciated. For R16v - The layout is 18 feet by 13 feet giving a good long run and for the branch line running from the fiddle yard to the station the run is even longer as the track goes round one full circle and then about another three quarters of that to reach the end of the line. I hurriedly took some photos just now of the layout which can be described as "warts and all", akin to many bands having outtakes, never intended to see the light of day, released in CD form. After viewing these photos I am not too sure if this a good thing to put on the thread as everything appears too messy. It all looks a bit of a shambles but is pretty comfortable to work in and is the normal state of affairs. I have tidy ups fairly regularly but it doesn't take long for it all to revert to the norm. My wife prefers everything to be neat and tidy in the house, however, as in most things there are exceptions! Brian Mac - see you at the SECC this weekend no doubt at the North British Railway Study Group Stand! Eric
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted February 20, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2017 Nothing wrong with your "warts and all" pics Eric, I always like to see the setting that the railway is in. Your railway size is very similar to mine so it's really interesting to see how you have designed yours in that space. Cheers Tony

R16v
Thank you for the behind the scenes photos, it just adds to what you have mastered so well on you're layout, and allows me to think what might be possible when trying to plan my own.. thank you.. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted March 21, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 21, 2017 The North British Railway Company had the inspired idea of naming some locos after characters from the novels written by Sir Walter Scott. Fortunately the LNER with the Directors and B. R. with some Peppercorn A1s also carried on with this policy and here are some views of trains headed by a few of these locos.
AJCT
Hi Eric - What's the origin of the Thompson matchboard full brake behind 60509 in image 2 of your pictorial post #462? Alasdair
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted March 22, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 22, 2017 Alasdair, It's a Comet kit which I am sure is still available. I purchased and built it about 20 years ago and it makes up to a very impressive vehicle especially with a very thin coat of primer and the same for the top coat to highlight the matchboarding. It was far easier to build rather than dealing with the Microsoft set-up as Sir Walter Scott, in two snaps posted yesterday, has taken to a horizontal position. He was in his usual vertical pose before transferring them across to here! Hope to see your J37 finished off soon! Eric

RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted May 22, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 22, 2017 A great selection of photos again Eric, I really like the busyness of the yard and station scenes and the pics of all the smaller locos, but I did see 60509 sneaking in the background. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted May 22, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 22, 2017 What do you think of the Bachmann Thompson's? David, They have been a successful purchase and really look the part. In addition they are extremely free running which makes running trains easier. I use the wire hook and bar coupling set-up soldered through the buffer beams so that frees up the pressure on the bogies. That also helps for good smooth running. All I have done to them apart from changing the couplings has been to weather the roofs and the underframes/bogies plus added the gangway connections. My only concern is that Bachmann do not take the same inordinate length of time to release them in maroon as per the LMS Porthole coaches which are still awaited in that livery. landscapes
Hi Eric Nearly missed your latest set of photos, I also missed a recent reply on my own Haymarket thread as well, must be an age thing. Great photos from you as usual, you have so many different views in which you can photograph your locomotives and some really nice detailed shots around the stations and shed yard as well. I am hoping to Add two new Bachmann A2/3 conversions to Haymarket using Graeme King's resin and etched components as well in the next few months, both models have now been completed I just need to add linings to both locos and tenders, plus nameplates and cab side decals. In a recent email you asked me was I using Gem J83's and I said no I have two awful Hornby J83's which I have tried to improve by adding additional detail to them, I have just posted a photo of the two on my Haymarket 64B thread. Great photos please keep them coming. Regards David

RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted June 30, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 30, 2017 What a cracking set of shots Eric! So many favourites in there, the A3s, Peppercorn A2s, Auld Reekie, The Pirate, the Dub D, the Caprotti Std 5, fabulous stuff. I really enjoy all the different types of shots you can get, something that I currently am missing with my layout. What more can I say, just inspirational! RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 2, 2017 Yes some lovely shots in there Eric, and a lot of cops to underline in my ABC. The D30s get ever harder to resist though.
