RMweb Premium Popular Post 60027Merlin Posted July 24, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 24, 2021 (edited) A photo of the recently completed DJH A2/2 with new Fox nameplates. I noted some months ago that the nameplates for 60502 from Fox, 247 Developments and Modelmaster were all the same length and a bit too short. Fortunately Fox were willing to make them longer and it does make a difference. Other photos are all Edward Thompson locos from Haymarket, Gateshead and Heaton to make up the maximum number of photos in a posting. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted November 1, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 1, 2021 Another trawl through the archives of trains in the area. Apart from building a loco kit another winter objective is to take more photos.

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted November 17, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 17, 2021 Some years ago I put a selection of photos on here featuring locos named in the Waverley novels and poems by Sir Walter Scott. The North British Railway Company named many locos in such a fashion and it was continued by the LNER with the D11/2s and later when some names were used again on the then new Peppercorn A1s. Here is another selection; Roderick Dhu, Madge Wildfire, The Talisman, Kenilworth, Edie Ochiltree, The Pirate, Redgauntlet. 15

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted February 13, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 13, 2022 A couple of shots of a regular performer on the layout and a new one still to be painted which will be one of the named examples. The painting cannot start soon as it is heavy rain today and rain is forecast for all of this week - being hopeless for using the Halfords spray can outside! 9

rowanj
Super stuff, Eric. I need to get on with a "Scottish Cab" K2, having a great photo of one on a freight passing Little Benton Sidings. Cheers John
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted February 13, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 13, 2022 John Perhaps the photo you have is the same one I have. By coincidence the loco in the photo is what I have modelled, Loch Laidon. I have a photo of it in the west of Edinburgh in 1959 and used that one for reference. Some time later I came across the one at Little Benton in my files. I was surprised that it managed to get that bit further south! Eric

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted March 5, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2022 Now and again the ex-Caley/LMS stuff are run on the layout from a Coronation to a Caley 0-4-4t for a change. 4 years ago Rails of Sheffield announced a new model for the Caley 812 class. A few weeks ago they eventually arrived and they have produced a good model. Here are some photos of it number 57565 together with the DJH kit number 57645 from many decades ago.

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted March 20, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 20, 2022 Another new loco running in today shown earlier in February in pristine white metal. Painting, lining and weathering completed a few days ago. I have a couple of photos of it in the late 50s which fits in to the layout period and to match them, it is finished off in a beat up condition complete with the lower half of the smokebox door sporting a clean gloss black coat after repairs to it.

Hi Eric Great photos as usual, I see your model of A4 60031 Golden Plover has name plates with a light blue background. I am about to order new nameplates for my own A4 60031 would the light blue fit my Haymarket layout time period of 1958/1959. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted May 4, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 4, 2022 David The earliest year I have seen photographs of this colour is 1961 when numbers 31, 4 and 11 appeared with Scottish Region light blue on their nameplates as photographs taken in 1960 have black backing. The only other photograph I have seen of any other 64B loco with Sc. R. light blue was for the A1 Auld Reekie in late 61. I have it on good authority that 2 of their named B1s were also turned out with the light blue for a short time in 1961 but the person who saw them did not take a note of which ones as he was here on his honeymoon! Eric Hi Eric Thank you for your reply, its looks as though I will have to order nameplates with a black background. The only colour photo I have of 60031 with Light blue background nameplates has no date but the A4 is on the Elizabethan which probably dates it around 1961.
