RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted May 4, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 4, 2022 David, I know the photograph you mention and it definitely was in 1961. The Elizabethan was featured in an article in one of the prototype magazines many years ago and this was one of the photographs featured. Hi Eric Very nice set of photos, are they all Hornby RTR A4’s or do you have any Kit built ones? Regards David
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted May 18, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 18, 2022 David, William Whitelaw and Kingfisher are Pro-scale kits from the early 80s. Just to complicate things I have another two Hornby models of them! For William Whitelaw the Pro-scale model has the light blue nameplates with the Hornby model in black. Kingfisher is black on both. Hi Eric Great variety of locomotives, wonderful models and guess what in my trainspotting days every one of them would have been a cop. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted July 29, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) A selection from 2017 which were posted here then but disappeared with the changeover to a new site. Perhaps more could follow as fortunately I kept everything in folders in My Pictures on Microsoft. No idea though as to which ones to transfer across again. Any favourite locos/classes can be requested! Edited July 29, 2022 by 60027Merlin 17

Nice to see the article on Kenneth Moore great actor and a very good film as well, there are three versions of the 39 Steps but I think 1959 version is the best one. There’s an interesting section in Harry Knox’s second book on Haymarket MPD regarding the film and the participation from the Haymarket footplate crews. RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted August 5, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 5, 2022 David, Harry told me that the film company sent each of the members of the loco crews a generous payment shortly after filming. The out-takes of this version of the film are excellent with some interesting shots in The Waverley. They are in the John Huntley "Steam on 35mm" series, number 3. I have the video from quite a few years ago but it may be available as a CD. Eric 1

You say they used Four Haymarket Pacific’s, I remember seeing A4’s 60012 and 60027 plus an A1 on the Forth Bridge do you know what the other locos were. Eric Hi Eric Thanks, sorry I was a bit slow on the uptake I should have realised seeing the four Pacific photos you have posted. I remember seeing 60012 running into Waverley from the south and stationary on the Forth Bridge plus 60027 leaving Waverley running North but I cannot recall seeing 60024? RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted August 26, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2022 Another handful of disappearing photos from here in October 2016. Text below copied from that page. Back in August during the Festival I was making my way to the Jazz Bar in Chambers Street via the Waverley Bridge and when passing by the old B. R. Parcels Office was surprised and delighted to see a large picture of one of Haymarket's finest in the window along with a couple of other pictures in the Waverley Station. I returned to the Waverley Bridge some time later to take a few shots of the scene and when so doing was joined by quite a few tourists who decided to take some as well! This set in Wetherspoon's windows will no doubt feature on a great number of the visitors holiday tablets and mobile phones along with the usual shots of the Castle etc. -- Of course these scenes could not be recreated just now due to the ongoing bin mens' strike which has left the tourists (and the few locals who reside in the town centre)) knee deep in litter!

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted September 4, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 4, 2022 Exactly, all down to the previous owner who bought it from the family who had owned it for a century. The previous owner of course will be well known to you as he owned your local football club until last year. 1
