RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted January 22, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 22, 2023 Cracking shots as always Eric, especially that last one of the A1 under the bridge, memories of Edinburgh Waverley in that one
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted February 6, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 6, 2023 Another selection of the lost photos, this time from December 2014. All locos and stock still going fine and of course they have been joined over the intervening years by newcomers!
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted February 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 6, 2023 Lovely shots Eric - what is the origin of the V2 60873? I still wish Bachmann had done a better job on theirs, but it would appear that I do have to start my Finney one if I want a proper V2. Cheers Tony
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted February 7, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 7, 2023 Tony The V2 is a Nu-Cast kit from the late 70s when it was first released. The Bachmann model is OK provided you can improve some of the new thinking such as the drawbar arrangement. There are a few illustrations and notes by members on these V2 alterations on the Bachmann section here. A couple of photos below for you! RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted February 14, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 14, 2023 (edited) In the week before Christmas I visited my local model railway shop and on speaking to one of the lads about locos in their showcases he mentioned that the Hornby A2/3, Sun Castle, was the last one in the shop. As it is unknown just when the next run would be made I yielded to temptation and purchased it. Here are a couple of photos of it now done up as Watling Street from Gateshead and later Heaton. A regular visitor to The Waverley and of course Haymarket. Edited February 15, 2023 by 60027Merlin
rowanj
We seemed to see Watling Street on every occasion we spotted, Eric. You might expect this, as we were on Tyneside, but other 52A and B Pacifics were rarely on view. 60001 ,2 and 16 took some spotting unless you managed to bunk Gateshead, which was tricky. Heaton wasn't any easier. I too have a renamed A2/3 as Watling Street, as a homage to all the times we groaned when it was her again...

John, Watling Street was a pretty common sight here as were a great many from your area including this one below.

RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted April 14, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 14, 2023 Some snaps of the Peppercorn A2s. There were 15 in the class with 11 based in Scotland. Here are 10 of them with the 6 from Haymarket, the 2 from Dundee Tay Bridge and 2 of the 3 from Aberdeen Ferryhill. All well used and seen regularly but not south of Newcastle, apart from trips for overhaul at Doncaster.
RMweb Premium 60027Merlin Posted May 12, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 12, 2023 Just over a couple of weeks ago one of Haymarket’s finest arrived at Balbuthie Farm in Fife which is owned by the engines’ owner, John Cameron. The K4, The Great Marquess arrived there a few days earlier. Thank you to John Cameron for purchasing no. 9 in 1966 and giving it an extended life in service which has been appreciated by countless people throughout the decades.
