Model Rail 146

This is a problem that can occur anywhere in the country and at anytime. This is caused by some distribution companies sending out magazines as and when they feel like it rather than the date that they should appear on the shelves. I was fortunate to discover a local newsagents who stocked MR and a few other mags and obtained them from a different distributer. Also check to see if your local Tesco's have them, the larger stores usually stock them and they have their own distribution system.

Tesco also stocks Model Rail these days. Osterley in west London has had several since late last week. Off course it may be that this issue is so BRILL they've all sold out ;)

What theyve done a whole mag devoted to one type of engineers wagon?

Unusually none of my usual shops carrying MR in the Hereford area (including Smiffs) have 146, so this seems perhaps to be more than just a 'one-off' problem. They all have the August RM, BRM, etc. in stock too. sad.gif

Got MR today from Buxton WH Smiths - no free gift. Is it taped to the front or behind the counter?

Mine was taped to the front cover... High street WHSmiths.

Not decided what to use the bits box for yet... what did you put in yours (if you got one)

I live in North East Bristol and have been doing the rounds of my local newsagents and WHS (Downend/Staple Hill/Kingswood) since last Thurs and nobody has received MR146 yet.

Has anyone else managed to track one down in NE Bristol, if so where.

I'm not working tomorrow AM, but I'm suffering from a twisted knee and don't want to go traipsing around in vain.

Dibber25 insists that deliveries have gone out as normal, but there's none to be found round my way.

You ought to try getting magazines in our village - anything up to a week late is normal. Life goes on regardless and they get here eventually.

Tried to pick up a copy today. My local newagent, who normallly stocks it, assures me he has not received it yet. WHSmiths still had last months on display, which although I enjoyed reading, dont really want to buy again ;)

Whilst the mag was obviously printed etc on time, due to the number of people who have been able to buy it, there does seem to have been some sort of distribution problem judging by those who have not been able to locate it.

I'll have a look again tomorrow whilst I am in town.

Judging from the posts in this topic and under the 'non-availbility in Bristol' heading, it does seem that the distribution is patchy this month. I'm afraid I can't offer an explanation, as I said previously the magazine went to press on time and I am not aware of any subsequent problem. Sticking gifts on the cover is another operation done after the mag leaves the printer. From past experience it usually takes one day, allowed for in the schedule.

I drew a blank today but I will endeavour to make further enquiries tomorrow, although I suspect that the start of a new week will have seen MR146 arrive in most shops today if it wasn't there last week.

Chris,

Thanks for trying to help, although I am sure that once the mag is delivered to WHS/Menzies (or whoever it is that wholesales mags these days) there is not a lot you can do about it.

I'm hoping you are right and I will find it today...as I have a long journey to make and would appreciate something to read! (Failing that it will be the novel I have been trying to read for the last 3 weeks!)

Still no sign of it here in Bristol...

WHS are distributors of the magazine in many areas aren't they?

I know that they are here in Bristol.

What if they're having difficulties with the supply/packing of their 'free gift'.

What would they do??

Call me cynical if you want, but they wouldn't sell many copies if they put it on the shelf a week after all the little newsagents.......

Our distribution people are investigating but they have not been made aware of any problems. The gift attachment would have been done before delivery to Smiths, as these copies have a slightly different cover.

But check out the price. wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif

Terry.

Specialist item - only 5 built, only used on 1 line . 5 coach state of the art model. Strictly limited market, and therefore modest sales. Inevitably it's going to cost a lot more than putting together a 5 car Voyager

Great issue again this month particularly with the free "bits" box which will be really useful. I've been getting MR every so often but am seriously considering subscribing as it appears to me to be getting better and better!

Free gifts like that are a poor reward for the loyal subscribers who do not get them!
