BlackRat
Having been more than inspired by the superb layouts on show here I have done a little bit of tweaking and bashing of my layout, Carrick Road. I have added a small new countryside station, built to serve the nearby estate and small village. The harbour has gone, due to the effects of over fishing and global warming! Oh, as have the dries! Must find a bit more room from somewhere! Attached are a few pics, not a photographer so you will have to cut me a bit of slack! it's still very much a work in progress................ Guest 34008Padstow
Now that does look different. i remember reading the articles on all 3. they were a huge inspiration to me
BlackRat
Thanks Padstow, glad to be of help! The harbours are still under there, just boxed in! The last one was built on a lightweight 'clip on' extension. Theres another at the main station with a new goods facillity, again a work in progress. Planning is already well under way for the new roundy roundy as well as a small welsh valleys plank, (with DCC Sound hopefully!).

BlackRat
Thought I would try being arty and do a black and white one!
MRDBLUE17
That does look good! Really like the new station it seems to fit the scene so well. I too remember seeing your layout in model rail and was impressed with it at the time and glad to see you are still enjoying it and indeed making new improved sections to it. Keep up the good work and please do post some more pictures of it. Thanks, mark
BlackRat
Thanks Mark! The new station is where the old dries used to be, the modern ones. The harbour was 'boxed in' and a new harbour and dries added. Again tho, this tended to limit operation so it was again boxed in and the track layout altered. The 'loop' now extends under a new road bridge, which you can see in the pic. This allows for a lot more versatillity in shunting etc the small yard. I need to try and fit some dries in somewhere tho, watch this space! The new shed, basically part Dapol (Airfix) and kitbashed, not quite there with it yet and may well start again. Hope every one likes what I have done or am attempting to do!

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 20, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 20, 2010 Nice to see you on RMweb. The layout appearing in model rail (10 years ago?) was a great inspiration to me and got me back into modelling the good old Southern. In a way you are partly responsible for treneglos appearing on the expo circuit in 2004. Nice to see the changes you've made, especially the new station. Please carry on posting photos and a track sketch would be nice to.
BlackRat
Thanks all! Cant believe that about Treneglos, its one of my favourite layouts! Having seen it I nearly threw mine on the bonfire!! yyyyyyes the ACE still calls there, usually hauled by a Warship or a Baby Warship with the occasional West Country to! Will try and do a few more pics, including the new station area for the main terminus. Here's a pic of the 'east end'.......
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 20, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 20, 2010 Hi, I also remember this from Model Rail, as one of the outstanding layouts they have featured. What I particularly like is that it oozes atmosphere. That is very hard to define, but easy to spot! Hope all continues to go well with the alterations- I shall look forward to further news and photos. Gilbert
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 20, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 20, 2010 are you still keeping the roads in the south west safe? Do i remember correctly a photo of you on a police bike? I recently sorted through a load of old mags and the articles with C Rd in were some of the few i kept. As others have said it's the atmosphere that makes the layout a winner. BlackRat
Chris, yes still out there doing my bit! Mainly deal with the aftermath now as involved in specialist collision investigation. I dont get to visit many of the 'sites' these days! I wonder if I am the only person to ride a BMW between par Docks and Fowey Harbour through the clay tunnel! There's still masses to do here, scenery, point rodding, few more trees etc and hopefully finished! I have kept the old scratch built buildings but have a bit of a prob now as every birthday its something from Skaledale or Scenecraft! Lovely! Beats socks and Brut 33 any time! AND..... how can you refuse a pressy from the children. Got a cuboard full, but at least you can rotate the 'stock'! I will try and do a few more pics. Thanks to all for the great comments, makes it worthwhile. When you see layouts like Trenegloss or Diesels in the Duchy you know you just have to try harder!
westerner
Glad to see the layout is still developing. The original articles are in my favourite layouts file.
TheFonz1
Yes me to! I still have one of the Model Rail magazines with Carrick Road in it as I thought then and still do that it was a smashing (no accident pun intended) layout. I seem to remember you were wearing a rather snazzy shirt in the mag !!!! Seriously though great to see you on here best wishes and please like all the others keep up the work on a fantastic layout. thanks
Dan Griffin
I seem to remember you were wearing a rather snazzy shirt in the mag !!!! snazzy indeed. any plans for a further article in model rail?
BlackRat
Yes I am afraid the shirt is still going strong! Wait till you see the really loud ones! Still, surfings part of life ere in Cornwall, just go with the flow! Not sure if Model Rail is interested, they have new owners and Editor etc. Mind you, quite fancy Hornby mag, enjoy its style and ethos and I get to meet Chris Nevard to! Attempted a few more shots tonite, remember this is still very much a work in progress! Most of the buildings are Skaledale with added 'bit's like canopies etc. Some need the chimneys re-working and a bit of weathering. The water cranes, lamps and staithes are scratch as are the signals (sort of). The staithes are made from wooden 'stirrers' from KFC! Stained brown with of all things pottasium permanganate and superglued together. Look ok to me. Still masses to do tho!
Redkiterail
I hope model rail continue with your layout as the previous articles have been brilliant.
BlackRat
One last one showing the new approach road, probably 'Station Road'! How original is that! Not 100% happy with this but its early days and I expect it will all change as it gets tweaked. The main thing to me is it looks ok (in my eyes anyway). I just enjoy it for what it is!

RMweb Gold Brinkly Posted July 22, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 22, 2010 I've just caught up with this thread and didn't realise that you were on RMWeb! I've really enjoyed reading the articles in Model Rail over the years, I felt it was progression within a scale. So what is next Mr S!? Regards, Nick.
