Thinking of aircraft, specifically seaplanes, I had the pleasure of knowing the late Mr Charlie Perriton, a Customs Officer who was the Coast Preventive Man for Lymington from the late 1940's to the late 1980's. Amongst his many interesting stories, was an account of how he had to "clear" (board, inspect and receive all the Customs paperwork for) a Short Sunderland flying boat, which came into the Lymington River in the late 1940's. Airfix used to produce a version - currently not in production, it seems - but it seems other 1:72 scale kits by other manufacturers are available.
