If Direct Line had assigned the local BMW garage as an approved repairer rather than one in Kentish Town it would be done by now.

I know the feeling - I had an accident near Lancaster, ive near Lancaster - there is a local garage with a very good reapir shop, and about a dozen other decent ones nearby.

My car was sent to Carlisle by DIrect Line - 60+ miles each way on a flatbed.

Afternoon All

Started off wet, then cold, but it didn't snow, though there has been some of that stuff North and South of here, and also on the tops.

Had an early start today as we had a failed unit on an upstairs window - used the guy who replaced the patio doors, as he's much cheaper and quicker that most of the specialist glazing companies.  He arrived while I was having my boiled eggies and toast, and just needed to be let in, so I could get on with things.  Took him about half an hour in total.

So a trip to Garstang with 30747, and we were going into Aldi for just a couple of things, and it grew into the weekly shop - but it means I won't need to turn out next week other than for a few fresh bits.

Pension increase came through today when I checked it - I wonder what wonderful improvements in our lifestyle the fiver a month that I got will generate?  Well, the increase in the house insurance premium will just about soak it up!!!

Lily's foot is already showing improvement and she's walking a bit better.

Good to see that we're just about all present and accounted for, and generic greetings are on offer as usual from this quarter.

Dinner's ready.

Regards to All

Stewart

ps What the blazes is Judge Rinder which is on in the background

Sorry - I meant to add that I have never been a parent, so of course, neither a grandparent, so I can't offer any advice whatsoever to aid DIck's dilemma - other than to offer virtual support, which is hereby given in spades.

Woken this morning by a loud thunder clap at about ten to seven, looked out and it was snowing but not sticking. Ten minutes later heavy rain had washed it all away. Went into town and found that the two car parks we usually use had pay machines that were out of use. One had a yellow bag wrapped around the machine and we didn't know whether or not to risk parking for free. Luckily we saw a parking/traffic warden walking past and asked him if we could park without getting a ticket. This is the rule here in Lancaster, other cities may differ, "If the pay machine has a yellow bag around it and is the only one in the car park you can park for free. If the machine has 'Out of use' on the display you should make payment by mobile phone". Phone apps are available for parking payments, the phone number is on the pay and display board. No use to me as my phone is a basic emergencies only thing that doesn't use apps. Obviously if there are two pay machines and only one is out of order you won't get away with free parking. This may be of interest to anyone in a similar situation. Other than that, stay safe all.

It was pretty loud wasn't it.

There is one car park in Lancaster which is not a council one, it's private, and it has one machine - and a while back, it was out of action, and people parked there thinking it was free, and the enforcement people had a field day issuing notices at a hundred quid each.  The next day, a notice appeared intimating that a non working machine did not allow free parking.  It's the one on High St, next to the Trinity Church.  The gist of this was that if the machine is not working, you don't use the car park, and that was what the enforcers said...

Thoughts and best wishes to those that need them. Happy Birthday/Anniversary/Bar Mitzvah, etc., as required.

Sorry I can't offer any advice to Dick, but you have my support. Let's hope we hear from Clacton soon.

POE today as Mrs NB is off to a nearby joint Scout & Guide camp as one of the sub-camp leaders. My services are usually required (at home) as gopher and car-loader for all her camp stuff. They put a couple of tents up yesterday evening (along with quite a few other groups) in readiness and then the local scouting FB group this morning carried postings about some of the tents had been damaged by overnight snow and to take extra towels to mop up inside them......

The forecast isn't too good for tomorrow, but should pick up Sunday/Monday.

As I'm feeling all sympathetic towards her braving the near-zero temperatures tonight, she let's it slip that she's actually indoors.......... However, there are still a large number of thermal items in her packing for the outdoor activities over the weekend.

Once she's away, I'll be off to the shed to complete a few items for the upcoming exhibition in Cleckheaton this weekend. Pics on my workbench thread later for those that are interested.

Have a good weekend folks and I'll probably pop back later to see that we're all behaving ourselves................

Cheers,

Mick

Rogue do a beer made with yeast from the head brewers beard. I have no desire to try that one despite their beers being superb

Matthew had a beer in Camden Town containing oysters. Recently he had a sauerkraut beer. The one I had in Corsica that contained chestnut flour seems quite tame in comparison.

Morning all, late into the fray today as I've been on calls with clients since o'-crack...

Dick, as with several other I offer my support, most of the other advice/suggestions having already been proffered, and I'm sure you'll manage through it, given your background and kindness with those around you - tally ho mate.

Travel back from JFK was a cockwomble delight yesterday. Having gathered my thoughts for being such a prat as to have booked the later flight, I found the traffic lighter/better than usual, WIN for me. "People mover" from car rental to Delta Terminal 4, uncrowded, clean and pleasant - WIN.

Then Delta T4 decided to define ALL it's passengers who had bags to check as "losers". In a huge terminal that services heaven know how many flights including a ton of their international ones, they had ONE person running the baggage check line! About 50 people in the line and at least 20 minutes to get through. Grrrrrrr

I always check a bag (always have done, always will, never had a problem), and there is no preferential treatment for anyone, even folks paying business class ticket prices like me, ONLY for First Class folks. Talk about a total mess!

Once I traversed that, it was fast through the "TSA Pre-Check" security, as it always is, but good grief, they even had folks "watching" as the line grew and not a soul though "hmm, maybe we should add another one or two people checking bags?". The WORST part of the entire issue is that the hall is about 200 ft. long and of all the desks there, EIGHT of them are for baggage check. It's one of the busiest times (around 4-5PM) since all the international flights leave an hour or two later, so you'd think some cockwomble would have figured it out?? Sorry about the RANT <sigh>

No other reports from yesterday, just happy to be back home again - was pouring with rain when I arrived last night.

Should POE as again I've already clocked almost all the time I'm "allowed" on the project this week - however I'll still run over as there is a requirement for me to produce the first three months of financial reports today before I'm done. Either I create the reports for the client (their request, and really need them), and go over hours, or I follow the Project Manger request to not work over 40 hours... hmmm, let me see... OK, the client wins :jester:

Evening plans are for a dinner party with four of our close friends, Mrs is busy preparing something, sounds delightful, and all I have to do is arrange wine :)

+3 and sunny when I got up, a lovely day albeit a touch cold for you euro-wimps I'm sure :) Expecting 15 for a high.

Ha! Never mind Tim Peake, it seems like all the other cars in Stevenage are driven from outer space.

Oh, yes, the reason it's called a "rover" is because at one time during the sad demise of Austin Rover the company merged with British Aerospace and the staff discounts were so good that it seemed the car parks were full of Rovers.

They would not get away with that here. The owner decides who does the repair.

There has been a meeting between Southern managers and the guards plus Union. Apparently Southern walked out of the meeting and have sent a letter for guards to sign. Having seen it, it's pretty low dirty trick by Southern. I would post it here but not too sure the legality of doing so. Really dirty tricks. Looks like we are in for the strikes escalating

At the risk of being contentious, whenever I've travelled on Southern services I've never seen a Guard, apart from with their feet up in the rear cab that is. But then again that's a practice not confined to Southern........

Edit: not taking sides, just relaying my observations.

It's rare that I have seen that as they have to operate the doors at each stop. The problem with a wedged 12 car is that you are unlikely to see a guard as they can't move through such a wedged train. However ticket inspectors will manage to get to each first class section to fine people
