Popular Post tigerburnie
As you know I'm a newcomer to this fraternity and as such haven't really got to know the characters well, but I feel the loss expressed by those who have lost loved ones, condolences to those close and also thoughts to those who are fighting ill health. 17 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 25, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late on parade this morning due to my watching 'Murder, mystery and my family' on the goggle box. Commiserations Baz on the loss of your Marra and thoughts are with Mals family. I've selected the garden shed that I want, galvanised steel rather than aluminium, erected and installed for less than £500, now all I have to do is arrange the concrete base. There are several mix and lay companies locally so I can get a few quotes, only 4-5 square metres are required. Thats it for now, be back later. 17
Popular Post lightengine
Sorry to hear of Mal's passing, I liked his posts and wisdom, also his ER handle as I worked past there a lot. Overcast in sunny Teignmouth today.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 25, 2019 Morning all, And condolences Baz on the loss of your marra - always comes hard even if expected. Hope your flight eventually gets on it way. And at home I have found that yet again travel insurance cost has ramped up so an arm & a leg have been electronically sent off in the direction of the girl in the sailor suit for another 12month's worth of travel cover. Alas yet another penalty of advancing years is increased travel insurance cover notwithstanding a completely claim free past; seems everybody is after a slice the grey £. Car is back with the garage for attention to a window switch which is throwing occasional wobblies following their dismantling of the door last week, probably come back as NFF, the term so beloved of BR Fitters back in the day. So shopping is off the leader board for the time being but the menu dept apparently has some ideas which use what's in stock rather than what we need to get into stock. Have a good day one and all. 16
RMweb Gold Popular Post beast66606 Posted March 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 25, 2019 Morning all, Sad news about Mal. I don't frequent these pages (ER) much as I find it hard to keep up to date on everything and with everything else in life it's too much for me to do it (ER) justice. The new forum software is different but I use a version of VNC which Andy has supplied (a few weeks back in one of his posts) and that works enough for me, I get occasional hangs, as Mike - StationMaster - says it's never more than a minute or so at worst. More than that is probably something else affecting things, the site can be slow - but it's unlikely (but not impossible) to be that slow. Have a good day everyone. 20

Andrew P
Does anyone know how to get hold of Andy Y these days please? I've done two PM's to his new AY Mod link, but neither show up in my message box, so not sure if they went, if he has received them or what. Cheers. 3

But I think he has been on leave for the past couple of weeks so he might have a bit of catching up to do. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Shedman5 Posted March 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 25, 2019 Hi I thought I would pop in to congratulate all on 7,500 pages of Early Risers. A landmark sadly marred though by the news of Mal. I have not been around for about 15/16 months all railway stuff took a backseat whilst I project managed a house build for one of my sons. An interesting experience to say the least which at the end of the wife and I went away for a long (3 months) trip around Asia. Chasing up electricians and plumbers is a thing of the past thankfully. During this period we finally sorted our rogue Greek Cypriot brother in law out, those of you around a couple of years might recall we had problems with him regarding the mother in laws money. Cypriot justice might be slow but we got there in the end!! All sorted thank goodness. So it’s back to normality and the world of model railways though I have not forgotten we are not supposed to mention such things on here. Finally I am not encountering any problems logging in nor loading posts as some people seem to be having!! a note to myself to look in and post on here more often has been made. Enjoy the rest of the day Alan 25
Popular Post Ozexpatriate
Still fighting the lurgi - now entering a second week. My voice is croaky and I have a slightly sore throat, but mercifully little of the cough and congestion that comes with such viruses. The worst of it is feeling run down, despite sleeping well, and a diminished ability to concentrate and get things done. The weather has turned to normal today (meaning cloudy with promised rain). Sunny weather yesterday afternoon tempted me out into the garden where I had enough of a flowering dandelion attempting to provoke me. I wasn't feeling up to a lot of gardening, but managed to fill a grocery bag with weeds in short order and realized there is already much weeding to do. I will need to get out there earlier next weekend. While some cherry trees in the area are in flower, the trees in my yard are barely developing buds and the grass is just starting to grow. Nevertheless the weeds are already abundant - no more than a couple of weeks past overnight freezing temperatures. My thoughts are with those who have recently lost people close to them - like Gabe and Barry. 9
RMweb Gold 81C Posted March 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 25, 2019 Afternoon All I've been out in the back garden to catch the last of the sun I've feed the Robins and the Blue T!ts again as they have young ones due to hatch soon gave to two fat wood pigeons a shower to shoo them away and noticed everything that buds this time of year has sprouted tiny tips of greens and reds it's something I've not notice in recent years. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 25, 2019 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Been looking at the paperwork re. the PPI refund. 60% of the amount is made up of interest at 8% per annum. The actual payments I received back was about 25% of the total the remaining 15% being the interest that I paid on those payments (Added to the credit card debt). There was a bit of tax to pay on some of the 8%, at the standard rate but not much. Now all I need to do is wait for the cheque which should arrive within four weeks. 3 hours ago, TheQ said: insulate the insides well, tin sheds create a huge amount of condensation on the inside, a good full dampproof course to keep the humidity rising, or I put a dampproof membrane across the floor (ok plastic sheet) then 1 inch polystyrene, then boarded it out.. The shed is only 4' by 5' and fitted with ventilators. A floor (chipboard or plywood) is included in the package. It will only be used for storing gardening equipment not as a workshop.

AndyB
Evening all, Nice to see some infrequent but most welcome ERers posting. Not much to report today apart from a halfway decent layout idea in gestation thanks to input from others. A distant plan is to take Friday off - if I can keep my diary free!
tigerburnie
Well that wasn't too bad a day doing nothing much really, bit of the "G" word totally voluntary too, bit of a sprint round Lidl for the weeks veg as we've eaten all the stuff I grew and feet up. I did venture into the railway room briefly and all looks well, I intend to try and spend a bit of time in there this week after grandad duties in Perth.
Popular Post AndyID
A libation has been taken in memory of Mal. I got back from Salty Lake last night with this thing. (Honey, there's a big spider in the garage.) MrsID seems to be able to get into it more easily than I can. That might be a problem. The 700 mile journey was uneventful except that the windscreen took a small hit from a rock. I'll get that repaired before it starts to spread.
