Morning All

 

Not a lot seems to have happened since my last visit - so the usual supportive thoughts to the ailing, and congrats to the celebrating.

 

Today, 30747 seems well enough to go to work - a very early bed last night as 30747 really wasn't that well, meant an early rise - we seldom get more than seven hours, so bed just after nine meant we were awake by five.  Now typing this as we lie in bed until rising at 6.45.

 

I do think that a call to the fangmeister might be on the cards today - opens at 8.15 - number will be engaged from 8.14, then it's pot luck - seems to be the same with many of the health professionals nowadays.  LASAR will have to fit round whatever I can get today.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Managed a good nights sleep last night, five hours dead to the world. I'm sorry that I missed Chris and a few others at Warley yesterday but it was so busy that I'm not at all surprised. Now to top up those five hours followed by a long warm soak in the bath. It is fairly mild this morning, but very foggy.  There isn't a lot to be seen outside my office window - except for a wall of grey!

I forgot to mention that it is incredibly mild here, to the extent that I have cut the central heating to half an hour in the evening, and an hour in the morning.  The stove means that the living room doesn't need a radiator except when it is extremely cold, and our bedroom is also warmed by it, as the chimney passes through the wall, which is still warm in the morning.

Not quite light yet but from what I can see the sky looks fairly overcast and rain is forecast throughout the day.

First tasks today involve shops but after that I'm free to do my own thing. Whether or not this will involve Shed visiting I know not at the moment.

Good moaning to all from the damp centre off the Charente. Despite the plentiful supplies that keep falling from above the water pressure is low this am. Thus shave but no ahower as yet. I have breakfasted but Beth is waiti g for the nurse for a starving blood test. Out of sympathy  for the starving I have breakfasted in the kitchen. This however has a great bonus. I am able to avoid the idiot box and her watching of nonentities in a jungle.  I have the august companionship  of ER's.  

The car is to be loaded, the local vineyard visted and the car needs diesel, though not necess in that order. I better not get thd two delivery hoses mixed up.

Then it's off north towards La Manche with stops at various railway installations en route.

Unpacking to be done, parcels to be made up and posted and some catch up eyelid inspection will occur.

 

I managed to talk with ChrisF, Phil JW, Mike Bellamy and others yesterday at Warley.  There were others but faces can be remembered..names not always!

 

I was a bit tired by the time I got home last night but it was worth the effort to put on what is the biggest show in the UK.

 

I should be meeting up with Jamie in Leeds this week....

A good nights sleep of 7 hours ish, helped by little pink pills.

 

And I forgot to take my pills this morning, which is why I keep a stock at work in the drawer, so I've just taken some. That means I'm feeling a bit rough till they kick in..

 

The no working on anything yesterday has definately helped my calves the left has no pain, the right just a little, the back is still complaining a lot though.

 

Ben the Border Collie took one look outside the door this morning cold, damp and DARK!!! I'm not going out there he says and returned to the living room..

 

For the First time in about 9 months the entire normal route to work had no road works, I don't suppose that will last..

 

Effin Clown town and Wroxham have vast amounts of estate agents signs up, though there are many for sale, mostly this is a ploy by a local estate agents who regularly put up their signs to advertise local events. In this case the FOR SALE or SOLD, add on bit is replaced by a panel saying WINTER WONDERLAND (the rest is to small to read as I drive past.)

 

I don't bother messing with the timer on the Thermosat, the thing just decides whether it's warm enough or not. If we go out for the day or longer the target temperature gets moved down. We've now finished the last of the extra coal I had to buy last winter and we are now back to using Wildfire ovals, ... No clinker, hotter, and stays in longer..

 

I've just pressed a button and the first current shunt of the week is now cooking for 15 minutes before I can measure it. The major system is settling behind me.. ready for when the shunts are done, just 3 left of this set..

 

Time to .. wander off and have a look at the rest of the forum for a bit..

Morning All. Damp and grey in North Slopshire as I try to unglue my eyelids whilst imbibing the first muggocoffee of the day. Had a good day on Saturday at  Warley and chinwagged with several ERs and other Webbers as well as getting quite a bit of networking done. I also managed to resist Baz's offers to set about my locomotives with his dirty brush. Commiserations to Bill re his finger; I hope it doesn't turn into a saga like my Toe did. Next show will be Manchester where Crimson Rambler and I will be visiting on the Saturday.

 

Nothing exciting expected on the domestic front today apart from a few maintenance jobs delegated my way by The Management and I may even be able to sneak off workshop-wards for a while. I note HH's need for somewhere long to set up his la**ut and whilst I have the necessary space the drawback is that it is dry and has a solid floor - no mud or hollow despite the present weather.

 

Just had an irresistable offer from SWMBO (stop sniggering you lot) concerning another muggocoffee so the morning is looking brighter already. Have a good one and bon voyage to Jamie.

Rather damp outside, warm inside, that is partly because wood burner remained in overnight as usual. We rely upon the various thermostats to maintain a steady temperature and have found over the years that this uses less energy than allowing the house to go cold and then heat it up again. Of course if we were to be away for an extended period, we would lower the set points. The cost of the latest wireless remote control packages remains far more than the savings they would generate for us.

 

A final push this morning will remove the overhanging ivy from a near neighbour’s boundary and the process will be interrupted by someone coming for that expensive table. I must be present for that to show them how to dismantle and re-assemble it. We will also be caring for the mutt whilst SWMBO takes two eldest grandchildren “up to town”. It appears their teachers have a day off to go shopping as Black Friday meets the more traditional Christmas. I cannot remember my schools ever closing to allow teachers retail therapy time and as someone who always worked in the private sector we always had to manage our time in the evenings or at weekends to get shopping completed. Similarly, could one imagine turning up at a hospital to find it closed whilst the staff all went on a spending spree? Ha, bumbug and all that, talking of which the careful examination of reviews of haunted fish tanks continues and we may have reached a decision - whether there are enough groats in the sporran remains to be seen!

 

To those suffering or recovering (post Warley or post illness) I wish you well. Keep taking the tablets.

Not much happening here today just to feed the dog at 12 noon and sit with him for a while he wont want walking as he is a wuss when it rains.

Laundry to do and a tidy up , slapped #rse with be her tomorrow sorting out stuff for the charity shop new stuff never used is her norm I can't

understand her logic perhaps she has none.

Call to fangmeister was successful at 8.17 resulted in an appointment with my own dentist at 11.15 this morning, which was just as well, as the fillinghas just  broken up while I was eating my toast a few minutes after the call.  So my shift at LASAR will need to be split - then get 30747 from work.  I must say that she would have been better to stay off today, but there's no telling her, she's one determined individual.

Well, Roundhouse will no doubt visit the Roundhouse.

 

After the busy weekend with yesterday installing a sound decoder into a Dapol O gauge Jinty twice as the decoder had the wrong functions on it, so luckily the owner could take it back and get it reblown whilst at the show then I refitted it for him. Also two swiss HOm locos had decoders fitted so they could run on our friends layout at the show. Just one loco that I couldn't do for a visitor as it required carefully drilling through the cast chassis (something not risking at a busy show where concentration can be easily interupted let alone saftey) casting to be able to run the wires to the tender but at least he knows how to get the loco apart and what to do (a Bachamnn Hall IIRC). Packed up at 4.30 as requested so the area could be cleared so helped take down our friends Swiss layout then three hours home.  Good to see many rmwebbers over the weekend and apologies for those that that I didnt get chance to speak to but some of you I will no doubt see very soon.  Thanks Baz for invting me to do the demo and looks like I will be back next year.

 

 

 

This morning I will be sorting out all the bits and pieces into their correct place in the workshop then fit a sound decoder for someone.  other half working at home today.

 

Last show of the year is this weekend with our Czech layout 'Dobris' at Letchworth so will be getting that layout ready.

Good morning everyone 

 

The northwest of England is also dull and damp. A bit late on parade this morning, having had breakfast and dropped Sheila of at her Zumba class I returned home and started playing with my 555 timer again and the time just flew! Anyway, I managed to get another circuit set up and tested so once again a very happy bunny here. So I can now pack away all my test gear, which will please Sheila. The next task will be to vacuum the hall, stairs and landings, this should earn me a few more brownie points.

 

My next show will also be the Manchester Model Railway Show, I’m going on the Saturday, so I’ll keep an eye out for Dave.

Hope those of you who went to Warley had a great day / weekend - with no whinging.

 

We had an nteresting day at Betws play time tr**n running, yesterday.  It had been very wet on Saturday so we were delighted to know that Sunday was going to be DRY.  But there is always a BUT... It was still quite DAMP and wheel slip was an issue all day.  We both had an occasion when we had to stop.   At one point, the loco was faltering at such a slow speed I decided to stop, set everything back to the start position and set off before the passengers were aware we did actually stop - no probs.  On Ray's turn of duty, the loco came to a stop, Ray got out of the cab, had an explanatory word with his passengers, and went off for some sand to put down on the track before continuing.

Later, on another run, coming up the bank towards the level crossing, there was Ray, between wall and fence (no way out except forward!) putting down sand ahead of me.

I slowed down...

OK, yes..

I have a gory imagination...

and...

a tendency towards exaggeration (?)...

We were driving No. 2 steam engine, Douglas, whose regulator I found a bit of a handful to get used to - or, rather, getting to know how the loco responds to it and how long it takes to respond in the difficult conditions.  Two consecutive runs at a time were enough for the old braincells. 

 

We are looking forward (hoping) to turning out the loco / train in suitable December festive gear next weekend.

We will also be at Manchester on the Saturday - just look out for the li'l ole lady in the bowler.

Wine boxes filled and car filled, from the correct hoses. Physoterrorist has been and us really pleased with Beth. She is now walking well round the house without sticks.  That spells danger to me as they could easily find an alternative  use wrapped round my neck.

 

Sat nag programmed withe the Avenue de Stalingrad, St Pierre des Corps. For sone strange reason there gappens to be a rather large loco shed there.

Morning all,

 

Sort of up and about but with a sore hip.  Not usually a problem joint but I don't want to soak it in the bath because of the finger!  I don't want to let that get wet yet.  There should be a ceremonial unveiling, then a bath, tomorrow morning.

 

At Warley, I met John and Mike at the 1pm meet, Dave at the MRSoc stand, Mrs Roundhouse to hand over the latest Prague tram routes (Ian was always busy), but not Baz, who had a "Back in 15 mins" on his stand every time I passed.

 

A funny (peculiar) thing happened at the European Railways Association stand after lunch, which I was using as my base camp.  I has a loose shoe lace and that wasn't an easy resolution, given my lack of usable digits.  As it happened I dropped my showguide through digital clumsiness, then couldn't find it once the lace was retied.  Apparently some person has leant down whilst walking behind me, and picked it up without breaking stride.  Thanks, sunshine.  As it happens, I was whacked and snoozed most of the way back to Euston.

 

Time for my second coffee and ease this hip.

Hello again from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis has informed me that rain is due later this afternoon, he didn't bother me yesterday at Warley or last night. My concern about walking around Warley was that my ankles were swelling up like baloons in the days leading up to my visit. I needn't have worried as when I went to bed last night the swelling had disappeared and has not returned. Perhaps exercise is the key to stop the ankles from swelling again.

Don't worry, we bring our own mud and create our own hollows, although the containers are a bit bigger than the normal Transylvanian dirt hoppers seen in various feature films.
