There was about 50 yards of cable in all attached to the house, the garden wall and the block of garages that intrude into the back garden. The system was abandoned many years ago and the cable started to deteriorate. I then found that it was attached to the walls by lead straps every couple of feet. In a very unexpected development, CowboysRUs are covering the roof trusses of a nearby erection (having left them and the internals to the elements for half a year). I can only conclude that they either expect more violent and extremely wet weather or that some poor misguided people may be interested in wasting their money. I shall chauffeur SWMBO to her pedicure shortly and have just completed descaling both the kettle and the coffee machine in preparation for the arrival of the skiing party on Saturday. Daughter + mutt have visited, the latter with very muddy paws and he promptly jumped up to have a fuss from me. I shall need to change my now well muddied shirt before going out to the local photography club this evening. Good to hear members have escaped the clutches of Torbay General, hope the recovery continues. As for the many lurgy sufferers, you seem to have sent out scouting patrols to me based upon my interrupted slumbers last night. Best for tomorrow to Sheila (via Brian) for her cataract op. Good to hear that Sherry is back home and hope to hear further positive news in due course. I am too young to remember decimalisation day although I do remember everything being referred to an "new pence" - the maths books at primary school had new pence for the money questions (including photos). My money box when I was very young was a giant plastic 50p piece. The PIR security light at the back of the house had failed; it still detected movement but the unit only emitted a dull glow which was of little use. A new unit was obtained a few days ago but high wind and/or rain prevented it being fitted. SWMBO got home late yesterday afternoon and complained she couldn't see to use her key. A period of calm and bright weather has just seen the thing fitted. It powered up when the mains were restored and it's now a case of checking how it's set. The destructions show a switch for either 24 hr or night time operation, but don't show which position is which! Due to next week’s angiogram appointment I needed to postpone a gastroenterology appointment in Whitechapel later that week. The only appointment was on a day the car was being serviced so I rearranged that too! Then I was trying to talk Aditi’s sister through some possible solutions for a problem with MiL’s phone. Sherry was sent home with a simple plaster over the arterial incision, and a compression bandage over that, to be removed today. Lots of warnings about not lifting heavy weights etc with the affected wrist for a few days. Sherry felt she was complying, so we were panic-stricken when we saw blood seeping this morning. A weeping artery is a bit worrying. It so happened that Sherry's daughter and S-i-L arrived minutes later, and Caroline leapt into action with a sterile bandage from her car first-aid kit. A call to the surgery was not greatly helpful, offering us a slot some hours hence, and a call to the hospital seemed to have gone to the wrong number - the path lab. But both calls ultimately were returned by a doctor, who in the one case offered a district nurse, on the other please come in asap, so we did the latter. It gets better. When Sherry was seen at the hospital the girl was full of remorse - she had answered my call, and regretted not waiting to hear why I was calling, so the number was right. But - hey! - the re-dressing was so quick we were out in less than 20 minutes and had zero car park charge! His Mum passed away this morning after having a stroke a few days ago. He asked me to let various other of our friends know so have been doing just that. She had been unwell over the past year or so with him having to return from the Manchester in 2018 just as we were setting the layout up and also had to cancel taking his layout to another but she had been doing well over recent months. I suspect that this will hit him particularly hard as he was living with and looking after her. This reminded me that I hadn't spoken to Mum today so gave her a call, luckily all is Ok with her at present apart form high blood pressure and shes seen the doctor this morning. AWOL with way too much going on around here, all positive though so that's good. Weekend/Saturday party was excellent and the Mrs is now emboldened to continue having more guests/parties. Only downside is it seems like I have to be involved also (SURPRISE! ) so muddling time getting restricted as that seems to be the "available" time to use Weather here been somewhat atypical, i.e. rather warmer than normal and less snow - that changes TODAY! -24 outside right now even though it's sunny, and we're headed for -15 high then back down overnight to -20. Tomorrow afternoon through Saturday AM winter storm watch, wind chill advisories and heavy snow, expecting 6-9 inches in the local area and more/heavier in outlying region. When I was in Tess Coes this afternoon I had a check on the 'bent and battered' reduced items stand. There was a magazine box with slight damage to one corner for 22p. I quickly snaffled it, just what I need to store sheets of card and plasticard. Got to catch up on a lot of things now, although the lurgi has almost disappeated it seems to have slowed me down somewhat. It hadn't been done by our son who is staying with us, or by another son who lives about 10 minutes away, or by our neighbour on one side (his own drive hadn't been cleared). Found out last night that it had not been done by the neighbour on the other side (the prime suspect - he's a really good guy). So who is the phantom driveway shoveller of Port Moody? No fish from a sea that looked like the inside of a washing machine, I gave up after 3 hours, maybe try again tomorrow if the weather looks kinder. But his latest review from those who can see through you, is the missing piece of bone in his leg is not reforming as expected. This will delay his return to fitness seriously. Long discussions were held on Blue Moon's keel, it's almost redesigned. Other ideas on the boat were also discussed.. My BP was somewhat up this evening, a combination of a busy stressful day at work, and driving back here in the dark. I don't enjoy driving, especially in the dark, as I used to.. Also complete is the first draft of the ode to Mr Burns/ Burnes/ Burness as various close members of the family spelt it... Tomorrow, revision, and a read out aloud and time it.. 3 to 5 minutes is required.. SWMBOs loss of wages through Ill health insurance stops this month, luckily on the same day her RAF pension starts.. Not as much though... It's windy out there but so far no more rain, the weather radar seems to indicate there is some on its way.. Time to drink.
