Chris We were surprised quite how nice the island was; we had mainly thought of its Shagaluf reputation, whereas there many nice bits - and we didn't even get to the train bit; Younger Lurker was not in a good enough place to risk that although as it turns out he had a good time. I think that was the holiday where he had spag bol 7 times (2x in one day) and the other time was meatballs and spaghetti. But he did try some other food there - which was a big step for him (tapas, chorizo, octopus IIRC). 13
Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where is grey. Today has been a Busy Day, the sort of day when everyone you have been chasing for answers to questions you asked ages ago decide to reply all at once, so shattering your efforts of a carefully managed workload. On the plus side I have then been able to move some work on so that it sits in someone else's in tray to fester for a while. This is the last day I am working this month which is good. But it is also the last time I am likely to be able to take a day off until Christmas because we have to submit all the tax returns, deal with a whole load of consequential work, and then prepare for the year end which will be all consuming. And that is while dealing with the TRA and other tax authorities who seem to want to have questions answered. Still, it keeps me in employment and that pays for the bills. The gas man did an annual service today. I took a call from them this morning and they had an afternoon slot so I accepted it. It works! 14
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2021 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Actually done something in the garden this afternoon. Only limited to uprooting a few weeds and depositing them in the green bin before Arthur Itis protested rather loudly. Tea has brewed so its be back later. 13

RMweb Premium southern42 Posted August 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2021 VW bus figures touched up with fine brush & assorted paint & colours. Type of paint purely dependent on what colour I needed and what was at hand - ie, what was on the table!!!! Varnish tomorrow. click n collect sorted & no substitutes although the ordering system only allowed me one 6 pack of Granny Smiths (and no loose ones it seems). Luckily I have a couple left which will get me through the week. Also managed to watch yesterday’s The Coroner on iplayer. Missed today’s episode so will have to catch up again... 14

JohnDMJ
Evening Awl, for I anticipate it might become a tad frustrating. Only one more POeTS day until 9 days leave and a Bank Holiday so hopefully won't be too bad! Met with a couple of colleagues at the walk-through C19 PCR test centre this morning; hopefully will compare notes (either face2face or by text) tomorrow. Results expected early morning. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted August 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 26, 2021 Evening. Turned out to be a nice day, but too windy for the kayak. Spent a little time on that bike and finally sussed its poor performance even after the rebuilt engine top end. The flywheel/generator rotor, which has the timing marks on it, is keyed to the crankshaft. Well its supposed to be.....the nugget that put this together years ago (before I bought it I hasten to add) had lost the woodruff key, so just banged it on in about the right place. 'About' enough so it ran, but not well......#sigh# Should have sussed this years ago! I decided to use a bit of old fashioned bodgery to find the real top dead centre, and there it was, timing marks about 5 degrees out, retarded (watch it...). I would be 'pah' but I'm pleased it is finally going a lot better! 8 10 4

He had kept in touch with Dad even though he left the engineering firm to become a police officer. That career came to an end ( too many motoring offences or something similar) and he worked as an engine tester at Longbridge. It turned out he had this bike and it didn’t work. I got it home (after parting with £10) on a trailer and it took about an afternoon to realise the distributor was 180 degrees from where it should be. It was like a car distributor protruding vertically from the crankcase not like a normal(to me anyway) bike one . The shaft could engage in two positions, one of which was wrong. Started straightaway! 13 6
simontaylor484
It's one thing I wish I could do is tinker with engines and cars i have done little bits like.replacing power wing mirrors on a vectra I had but that was a fairly straightforward unscrew and unplug them the reverse of the operation. I really wish I would have had more confidence in my maths ability and done my degree in Mining and Plant engineering instead of Mineral Surveying. My one main regret in life i console my self in the fact I wouldn't have met the Mrs 10 1
RMweb Gold PupCam Posted August 26, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2021 Well a busy day here at Pupper's Towers. As predicted, the invasion by the latest in Cake Seeking Bear technology occurred precisely at the time indicated by the early warning system. I was bombarded with useful "stuff" and the missing link to transfer old visual memories from the obsolete technology on which they live to a modern digital media. Another job to do then! When i extracted the old tapes from their resting place I noticed a couple of them were labelled "St Albans 1994 & "St Albans 1996". Hmm, I wonder what they could be of? Just to put me off guard the CSB was operating in a different, and I suspect unusual, mode as cake was dispensed rather than consumed on arrival. As said "cake" was in fact one of Pupper's favourites; Bread Pud this was most welcome. Any weight gain in the next few days will be put down to the Steroids I'm currently taking but of course we know the real reason A demonstration of the progress to date on Pupper's Patented Locomotive Control System was given and , I think, well received. After a good deal of "Putting the World to Rights" and a couple of Bacon Sarnies (fantastic oak smoked bacon from a local farm shop) Bear was dispatched complete with an Arduino Development kit which I fancy might ultimately lead the way to a turnout control system to rival the recently disbanded Kings Cross Power Box. I'll turn the Bear into a Softie if it's the last thing I do! Anyway, all-in-all, a jolly fine day. Alan 13 2

A well run forum such as this shouldn't really need filtering; its participants generally hold to the rules and it is free from the usual verbal fights and insults found on some others. The mods display a certain tolerance which provide for the occasional saucy or forbidden content although they have been known to wield the black marker sometimes, so when you lose your post..................! RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted August 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 26, 2021 Beary cunning was employed to the full today in successfully evading Pupper's anti-Bear defence mechanisms (not easy to achieve I can tell you). However Puppers played dirty and deployed his secret new cake-protection weapon designed to confuse Bear's extensive repertoire of sniffin' gear, namely by cooking the.....low-flying Bacon Sarnie.....with Bear's name on it Seems a fair swap Bear was then subjected to an intensive programme of techniques designed to subtly and cleverly get me to reveal the location of the SCR - involving a range of specialised subjects such as: 1. Motorised objects being twice the size of Bear's (no jokes, you lot...) which fail to go "Chuff Chuff Woo Woooo" but do instead go "Pssst Honk Honk Chugga Chugga" instead - all controlled by a mobile phone or by little home-built boxes with buttons on. Rather clever stuff. 2. Magical little gadgets going by the name of "Arduinos"; Bear could spell the word (just) on arrival, but upon leaving had an idea of how to actually programme such gadgets (a practical homework assignment has been set, with the aim of diverting a wheeled object from one pair of parallel strips of metal to another via the assistance of little things called servos. Watch for the smoke.... 3. A magical place called a "Garage" - full of yummy things like tools, very old wheeled things made by people with strange names like "BSA" and "AJS" and rather large model aircraft.... Now this latter place could very easily succeed in discovering the location of the legendary SCR....if only it were at Bear Towers..... Many thanks Puppers p.s. In case anyone is wondering.....Bear didn't crack - the SCR remains safe..... 18 1

I have set myself a similar task. Not with Arduinos or scripts just using some well known control software. I think I have misunderstood some fundamental concept and have confused myself. I will transfer my thoughts from the garage to a small setup in the dining room after a family visit this weekend. I have simplified one chunk of the process by temporarily replacing the Mac I wanted to use with a similarly aged Windows PC. 15
