pH
2 hours ago, Compound2632 said: Which takes me back to the point of this ramble, the seasonality of Seville oranges. Obviously they're all picked at around the same time, mid-late January, so it really surprises me that it takes three weeks longer to ship them from Spain to the Pacific coast of North America than it does to Britain. Do they send them by boat? Anyway, hardly surprising they're in poor condition by the time they get to you. 1 hour ago, Andy Hayter said: I would be surprised if they didn't ship by boat. Airfreight over that distance is going to cost around $6US/kg so adding $12 to that 2kg bag! 26 minutes ago, Compound2632 said: I read that much of the Spanish Seville orange crop comes to Britain for marmalade; are Seville oranges grown in the Americas, at all? 20 minutes ago, Andy Hayter said: Seems so. From Wiki: It was introduced to Florida and the Bahamas from Spain,[3] and wild trees are found near small streams in generally secluded and wooded areas. The Seville oranges we get here (the Lower Mainland of British Columbia) come from California, as does most of the citrus fruit sold here, and a lot of other agricultural products. The commonest citrus brand (as distinct from ‘anonymous’ product) and the only one that I know of for Seville oranges is “Buck Brand”: https://www.thriftyfoods.com/about-us/products-we-love/buck-brand-citrus 14

Ah, well, that would account for the difference in timing of the season. 10 2
Popular Post tigerburnie
During my apprenticeship in the drawing office I made a cup of tea in the cup, but used Earl Grey, which had huge leaves rather chopped ones. I left it on my desk and there was a scream, a lass in the office had seen something crawling out of my cup she wore was alive, it was a tea leaf re-hydrating and expanded somewhat. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted February 22 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 22 Afternoon Awl, soggy Q here.. Ben decided he wanted the full maximum walk, 3/4 of the way round I hear a roaring sound, the church in the distance disappears, and a wall of grey soggyness come rapidly towards us we got very soggy, very rapidly. Prior to that it had been a nice walk in the sun, there was evidence of ditch digging and further on we came across said digger, it had moved onto clearing a main connecting ditch.. Board 2 has been glued to Swmbo's display unit. New fine casting powder certainly seems much better than normal plaster of paris for the job. I'll see when it's fully set. Other than that more assembly and painting of shop fronts done. While drying out, I'm now awaiting a van from the house of strong lades, we are within the delivery window, and one item is a sign for, so boots are beside me and I keep checking the tracker. The delivery is a gas soldering iron plus gas which has to be signed for. My old gas iron died a while back but it had done some years , I'd bought it from Maplin when I was here first time 1979-83. Mugga soup gone... I think I need another.. Me gone.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 22 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 22 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A very soggy afternoon today, but it is reckoned to clear up by this evening, I do hope so. About time for a late lunch, be back later.
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted February 22 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 22 Amazon man paddled in ( literally) . Though the tracker still says he's 3 stops away. All stuff ok. I'm still soggy. So's Ben Eyelid inspection time.

It was a thin and weedy thing, something which no self esteeming strongman would break sweat tearing in two. .... No souvenirs in the Lurker household though - Mrs Lurker quickly pointed out it could go straight in the recycling bin! I've found the thin ones are useful kneeling mats. Not thick ones as the edges can dig into your shins but the 'weedy' ones are useful for weeding, whether kneeling on flags or damp grass. So mine take a circuitous route to the recycling! 17
Ozexpatriate
3 hours ago, Hroth said: No worse than making tea in a microwave which, I understand, is the preferred American method. It's not. Some would certainly microwave a mug of water and then use a tea bag - particularly for one person, rather than waiting for the kettle to boil. The kettle (electric or otherwise) is not an unknown device. There are other ways to produce hot water. There are tea capsules for capsule coffee makers as well. 9 1

It's worked for others 😁🤣 Funnily enough I’m in Mumbai now and saw this ‘office suite’ yesterday and if you feel the venture is a real ‘goer’ I get in touch with the gentleman and ask if you could share his premises. In fact he could speak a little English so may be up for a post with CCI GmbH (India) pty. 4 6

A place of real "have and have not's" - seeing little old ladies sleeping on paving slabs not 100ft away from that Hotel whilst smart young things were arriving in Mercs, Beemers etc. to go clubbin' was rather distasteful in this Bear's Book. 3 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted February 22 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 22 Another quiet day has been had, pottering about in the house. I rang the pharmacy to ask if they could deliver a prescription I'd ordered from the surgery, it arrived less than 2 hours later. After lunch I had another walk, again for about 15 slow minutes after which I tidied up the house plants before having my nap. Since then it has been a mug of tea and phone calls until a few minutes ago. The evening will again be magazines/TV plus a second attempt to do an easy Sudoku - very near the end I found I'd put ther same number twice in one line. I blame the long term after effects of hospital. David 1

I think that you have been misreading CCI GmbH's yearly report: 5% is the dividend paid to investors. 25% is the CEO pay rise for 2023/2024. 65% of base salary "Bonus" to the CEO due to "exceptional" company performance. all duly and properly approved by the board of directors (The Alpine Angel of Death, Throat-ripper and The Emasculator). Of course CCI GmbH being a socially responsible company, is careful to keep board remuneration in line with that seen in the UK private sector.... 1 1

One of Bear's Buddies is a Lecturer in Engineering at a local College - he too said that some on the (Level 2) Engineering Course can barely read (by all accounts they shouldn't really be on the course because they don't have the necessary qualifications to start with). When I asked him more, he gave an example of their work..... One was required to write an account describing how he went about a particular task (shaping a piece of metal). "I got a File innit....." I'd laugh, but those on the course are destined for a career maintaining certain passenger carrying items..... 9
