RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 10 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10 Noticed my belt is now on its last hole, need to drill another one, closer to the buckle. Morning Awl, 6 hours sleep followed by 3 1/2 hour sleeps. Ben the comfortable Collie only moved when I did, we've been on patrol, there obviously has been some precipitation, but not a lot.. I saw this morning the BBC weather says we will get rain several times this week, but the online site I use just says dark clouds. So it's good I've got the cover on the boat. Quantities of daffs have awoken, yellow spreading everywhere, another pear tree is in flower.. Quite breezy out there, dull grey. Forecast 20 gusting 30 mph easterly, which would be interesting, as we've not had a true easterly yet to sail in on these waters Time I got my waterproofs on... 21

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 10 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10 (edited) I am up and about on a dismal wet morning, 5°C at the moment, it might reach 6°C by teatime and the wind is striong from the east. I don't think I'll be going anywhere today. I had a lousy night's sleep, as I turned out the light I became fully awake, eventually I went off, waking again at 03.30. Then I don't remember going to sleep again until I woke at 07.20! It would have been better if I had remembered to make my anti histamine tablet as I kept sniffling and sneezing. The day has started with the usual phone calls, I have one lengthy e mail/letter to write. After that I expect I'll have coffee, cook lunch and then have a peaceful rest of the day. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 10 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 10 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Another good night last night, six hours solid sleep then another two hours. Rather damp and dismal outside but plenty to do indoors, housework and washing😒.

Grizz
Well on that note I’m off for the afternoon, to Gotham to drink beer, watch the football and loose my voice yelling and singing at the Amex Stadium. “SEAGULLS!!!!!!” 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted March 10 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10 ' morning all from red dragon land. Happy Mothering Sunday. <<Where's the sun? So either ask the local branch of the Round Knot to attend a 'spiking' party or come out of the closet and admit to being an S4 aficionado. Keeping out the sheep (aka buttercup fertiliser) would help! I do love the buttercup when it is in flower but it does produce a large expanding dense mat of leaves. Had a quick toot on the flute, tackling one of the more advanced exercises, an ascending and descending 4-note sequence over 12 notes (octave and a half) to extend my range to the last but one high note. In the process, I drew up three versions of it to include: the top 8 notes; a longer first and/or last note; a change of rhythm; and a different beat (two with 4 beats, one with 3 beats). Thus I keep up my interest and curtail the frustration while I struggle* on to get to the top. *Other more positive words available but I will stick with this one! I don't want to give the wrong impression! Next is sprucing up the place in case I get a surprise visitor - it needs doing anyway, so no worries! But first a mugadecaf. Take care. Be good. Enjoy your day, especially the mums in our midst. Polly

In other news it is Mothering Sunday for those in the UK. Other nations recognise different dates meaning Dr SWMBO has to be alert to the Australian Mother’s Day and act accordingly to avoid upsetting the Dragon-in-Law. It is almost seven years now since my folks left us - 11 months apart - but I can still picture very clearly mother on her knees weeding the front garden just days before she departed. Active to the very end she was. And then she just stopped. In happier times here they are on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. They had two more years together and had had three before marriage giving them a sterling 65-not-out innings together. 16

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted March 10 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10 Afternoon All, Not doing too badly here - physio said there is no more she can do - I'm doing all the exercises, and am still progressing, so she has discharged me from her care, with the provisio that she is still available to come back or do a phone consultation if required - in fact we agreed that I was progressing very well indeed considering it is only four weeks since I came out of hospital. Just discovered that our nominated pharmacy in Ludlow has been sold to MSN/Lunts, who have already taken over what was Lloyds pharmacy - and as a result, our pharmacy in the town centre will close - that leaves us with a choice of Boots or MSN/Lunts, and so far the MSN/Lunts is not even fully stocked since it was taken over - so much for progress. And on the domestic front, 30747 has been on a cleaning binge - and "decided" that I should be involved by cleaning all of my guitars - I currently have ten of them, all hanging on various walls, and admittedly all very dusty - I draw the line at oiling the fingerboards - that will have to wait, and they will be done one at a time. At present, I don't have the mobility on my left side to hold the instruments, or to finger even the simplest chords - however, the exercises should help with that. Aloso, I hope to be driving again by the end of April or the start of May. Must go now, as other websites need my attention. RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted March 10 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Some housework has been done and now to put the washing on. Just as well I've still got the stairs to vacuum, climbing them earlier something glinting caught my eye. It turned out to be a rear view mirror from a model bus or truck. The only problem now is to which model bus or truck does it belong? 15

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted March 10 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 10 No new squelching here in Norfolk, this mornings drizzle stopped. I note an outbreak of houses for sale it must be approaching Easter. The house attached to the cremated Swan pub is up for sale again. It was for sale when the roof / top floor caught fire along with the pub. But then of course had to be withdrawn. Any way today was the Ramuz trophy and the Kookaburra trophy. Traditionally that was a down river race have lunch then race the other one on the way back. But that's not possible on the new site. All boats count, but they started the dinghies 5 minutes after us. So final positions after calculating all the handicaps I've no idea. Now at the new site it's two long races. Forecast 20 to 30 mph, actually 10 to 20 mph, supposedly easterly, but actually often north easterly. Race 1, course, 6p, 5s, 2p, 1p, 3p 12 laps. Started the race and was over... Only by inches, but it of course took time to turn round records the line then restart. So we were last, by buoy 6 we were up behind the last boat, after the reach down to buoy 5you then had a choice tack fairly soon or close haul for a distance then tack. We decided to close haul further than anyone else, it paid off, we arrived at buoy 2 ahead of the next boat. After bouy 1 was the longest leg of the course, all the other boats went high trying to get above each other , so we straight lined the course, it paid off, we cut the distance to the next group of boats. Two laps later we were tight up behind them. On this lap they went high again and we drew along side but some distance down wind of them. As we approached bouy 3 we got a nice gust of wind overtook the other boats, and were able to pull up in front of the others to the buoy. So except for the Star in the far distance we were in the lead. The next leg was into the wind and we are still not sailing as high as we should. One boat got above us and was in the lead before buoy 6, then down to 5 another boat first blocked our wind then got though. Then ext few laps we kept getting close even over lapping but never got past the lead two boats.. Race two, same course, a the 5 minute horn I went to unfurl the Genoa, it didn't, it wrapped itself up in the forestay, various things were tried, nothing doing. So we ended up dropping the Genoa unhooking the top untangling the forestay then hauling it up. This meant we were approximately 1 minutes late for the starting horn... The Star just disappeared off ahead and all we could do was chase.. After many laps we finished, no change in places.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 10 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10 The rain has just about stopped now, it has been quite gentle but didn't stop all day so I stayed indoors until a few minutes ago when I had a breath of air. Having had a restful day (so far) I feel a bit less weary than when I woke up - a short nap after lunch helped. I've spent the day doing odds and ends, running things which move on nickel silver strips, sorting out photos, reading and trying to do some Sudokus - I got two out of three right first time, the third one I gave up on after making a stupid mistake very early on which I didn't notice quickly enough. I've also put away some things I no longer need to be easy to get out now I can move so much better. Then I watched an old Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire film which was amusing - though a phone call in the middle was a bit irritiating, fortunately it was short. This evening will be reading, TV and planning model things. David

RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted March 10 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10 Evening All Been away for a few days on the south coast. I've been keeping up with ERs but not commenting because that's far too much like hard work on the mobile! We thought we'd go for a walk (more of a blow really) on the causeway around Emsworth Mill Pond which is normally quite a picturesque scene. Unfortunately someone had pulled the plug out* and it wasn't quite as picturesque as usual! Unfortunately someone else had also pulled the plug out of the sea on the other side of the causeway so that wasn't very picturesque either! Did I mention the wind? Perishing! 🤣 Anyway it was a very nice few days away. Shame the same can't be said for the return journey on the M25 today ...... * I later wondered if the plug removal was part of necessary and recent "water management" activities to alleviate flooding further upstream? RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 10 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10 There has been a series of low tides, someone pulled the plug out of the broads, so finally all the accumulated rainfall has escaped, the water levels have dropped by 18 inches at the SC to their correct levels. Just looked up Emsworth water levels, they have dropped by about 0.75M over the last 2 days. Don't worry, they'll be back... 12 6
