RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 15 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 15 (edited) I got up after a reasonable night's sleep to find that it isn't raining, the sun has even put in a brief appearance . The rain will return later. I have had a quick look in the garage and greenhouse and have decided that some old gardening stuff is going to be disposed of, I wonder why some of the old trays and pots have been kept so long, they collapse almost as soon as I pick them up. Next this morning will be a walk on the Links and/or promenade, I think there is a ship to look at unless it moves before I get there. Then it will be coffee and odds and ends for the rest of the day. Thinking of food, I can't stand mushy peas - memories of school dinners when they were bright green and slimy, I also dislike pease pudding. In fact I don't like most soft mushy things, not even mashed potato unless it is a layer on top of a cottage pie or similar. I also don't like the taste of a lot of imported fruit, it loses something in the journey. David Edited March 15 by DaveF 19 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post NGT6 1315 Posted March 15 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15 Cheers all. LTNS but I still exist! I'm currently in Gotha on the final day of another qualification week. After one more exam, I'll be off to the station and awa hame, as I gather they say up in Scotland! Reading about India and food items in the same context is making me hungry. Dunno what we'll have for dinner tonight, though. Later. 🫡 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted March 15 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15 Good morning everyone There is a strange, bright object in the sky, where the dark grey clouds should be. I’m rather baffled as to what is could be. Anyway, strange round object or not, I’m shortly about to set off on my weekly walk to the butchers for the week’s meat rations and my pork pie. After that WE are going to the Trafford Centre for some more bits and pieces that we can’t get locally. This afternoon a well earned rest has been planned! Back later. RMweb Premium Popular Post jjb1970 Posted March 15 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15 In Indonesian cuisine there's a range of mangoes from sweet and soft to hard and sour. The hard and sour type is valued for rujak, a kind of fruit/salad dish served with a spicy peanut sauce (they love putting peanuts in sauces). I am not allowed to buy mango as I invariably get the wrong type.
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted March 15 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15 ' morning all from red dragon land. Dry. 9.0C. <<Let's leave it at that!>> C&C groceries this afternoon and jobs to do in the meantime. Peas. Love garden peas fresh or frozen. Grew up on peas fresh from the garden in the summer, tinned garden peas at other times. I was not one for tinned processed peas. In later years, when mushy peas became the norm at the chippy they were instantly banned by my taste buds. Onward with the jobbies. Take care. Be good. Stay on top of it. Popular Post Smiffy2
Big fan of fish, chips and mushy peas. Oh yes. When I get back to England... Speaking of food Julie and I went to the English Breakfast Club in Notre Dame de Touchet this week. It's a charity thing run by a group who support English cancer sufferers in France. We met up with some friends, and a new bloke who seemed a bit lonely and glad of someone to sit with and chat to. The breakfast was excellent, sausage, bacon, hash browns, fried egg, tomato and toast. Could have done with some boudin noir, but there you go. I think we'll go again. Yesterday I made Bolognese, must be more French - no sanglier around but I did buy a huge tray of local free range pork. Have a Fantastic Friday Folks!

My dad taught an evening class, one night a week over winter. Part of his route to the school took him (on foot) past a very good fruit and veg shop. We got to sample some unusual things over the years. Can’t say I always liked them, but it was good to get to try them.

Popular Post iL Dottore
@Smiffy2 that’s a nice way to raise money for a deserving cause. I’ve done similar things (as a cook) for various local groups. I would agree that the black pudding is lacking but so are, surprisingly, mushrooms and fried bread. Being in France, I wonder how many ordered the full breakfast sans fèves au lard à l'anglaise? I think one of the challenges of using food to raise money is to come up with menu choices that are both popular but not usually done/easy to do at home. Crunchy fried things are usually a good option be it karaage, suppli, kroketten, bhaji and so on. Even better if completely homemade. Were I domiciled in the UK, going out for a breakfast of sausage, bacon, egg, mushrooms, black pudding and a fried slice would only be considered if the food was exceptional OR they did good bubble’n’squeak, devilled kidneys or kedgeree - things that are certainly not (yet) in my repertoire. Otherwise why pay upwards of £10 or so for things I can easily do at home? 20
RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted March 15 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 15 Morning All! I was almost an ER this morning and I was up and out in the garden about 8:30. The neighbour currently has a not-fully-occupied skip on his drive and asked if I'd got anything I'd like to put in it. Well, one old broken up pergola and some old wooden garden furniture later ... I was going to lob it over the fence at a suitable position but then I thought the walk from the back garden out to the road and then down his drive would be good exercise so that's what I did. After that I re-fitted the silencer on the RD and made improved mountings for the head temperature sensors. The silencer looks good, sounds good and no longer emits blue smoke half way along its length. Me thinks a short test flight might be in order 😀 TTFN

Popular Post Ohmisterporter
Dropped Kath at the hospital yesterday for her operation that was planned for this morning. Unfortunately her blood pressure was 203 which is far too high to go ahead with the op. So the phenoxybenzamine blood pressure lowering tablets have been increased to eighteen a day, up from fifteen. Apparently they can go up to ten tablets three times a day. With thirty tablets in a box I wonder how much a box costs? There is a lot of knocking of the NHS and fair enough waiting nineteen hours on a chair in A&E, lying on a bed in a corridor, not been given food because someone forgot to ask the new patient what they wanted for dinner, not checking a diabetic's blood sugar level until she went hypo, all of which happened to Kath in hospital can be considered negatives. But there are a lot of positives as well. "Free at the point of use" being the main one. So I have at least the weekend to myself to do some shopping, cleaning, cooking (nothing fancy), washing and changing bedding; in short all the usual jobs that seemingly cannot be done without supervision. I may also add some reading, telly watching, and diy that had to be postponed because I was in the way. Anyway, it may all work out right in the end. Stay safe all.

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 15 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 15 Another reason it took me until I left home to appreciate lentils was that Mum had a habit of adding red lentils to stews near the end of cooking so they were still hard and slightly bitter.

I’ve had to wait best part of three weeks for phone consultation. ‘No adrenaline pen, call 999 if you have any breathing problems’. Thanks.
