If he says that I actually have a heart many family members and even more of my old clients will be very surprised. Positive thoughts towards Debs and all others in need. Jamie A couple of weeks ago we used the services of our insurance companies home doctor team. In due course they arrived complete with a portable X ray machine. Took about an hour and all checked out OK. Even remarked my ears could do with a clean out! They will also make house calls and all are covered by insurance. Not a bad deal! Probably we've all done it at one time or another but now when its early morning and we're tucked up in our warm bed, I think of the poor souls on the dark freeway, raining hard, trucks spraying water on your windshield and you're trying to see where you're going. And they do it every day commuting to work; at least when you return and get home you can relax! Brian. 9

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted November 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 7, 2019 I doubt I shall be the one to tip the page and post count but I can record a steady improvement in SWMBO’s condition. In other news I was due for a work medical on Monday. The one all safety-critical staff must have every so often. With all the customary efficiency of the Great British Establishment they booked me in for 11.00 on the 11th day of the 11th month. I have been advised that the doctor is not able to keep this appointment which is as well because neither is the patient. Instead I shall have to parade tomorrow afternoon which will mean SWMBO is unattended for much of the day. I’m sure she will be fine but you couldn’t make this stuff up! Hey ho. All the best to one and all.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted November 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 7, 2019 Not much of interest to report for today - bit of shopping, bit of niff naff and trivia admin, bit of mod***ing, even a game of Scrabble. Tomorrow I'm off to London for an F4 aircrew pi**up reunion (I nearly put Phantom aircrew but then realised the can of worms you lot would make of that). Train from Stoke at 1000, multiple beers and much chat at the Moon in Whitehall from 1200 to 2000, train from Euston at 2100, collected at Stoke 2230 and, if I'm lucky, a chance to sleep it off until late AM Saturday. Until then, goodnight all and hopes that Debs had a profitable day today. Dave

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted November 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 7, 2019 Evening all, I think most of the supermarkets are going downhill - in Waitrose shelves are often empty (because they've cut back on staff at the local supplying depot in Bracknell) and no doubt their stock control is a bit woolly too. Tesco here has had several lots of cutbacks and the latest symptom is that they're only opening 4 people operated checkouts for much of the time - you can tell things are bad when you see the long queue for the self-service checkouts; stock isn't too bad but they haven't had one particular size pack of paracetamol for the past several months. And it's not just the supermarkets. Herself wishes to escape the price escalating clutches of Virgin mobile and acquire a bit of android capability for her personal communicator so today - being bright and sunny - we have ventured to Reading, a town awash with shops selling mobile whatevers. Call 1 - O2, she looks at several and decides which one she wants, and gets a 'sorry we haven't got that one in stock'. So, Call 2, we cross the road to John Lewis where she picks a likely candidate for purchase only to be told 'sorry, we haven't got any of those in stock I can order one for you'. So to Call 3 and next door (almost) to EE - bingo, she decided which one she wants (nice and cheap) and they have it in stock so away she goes into purchasing mode and network changing mode and all that sort of thing. The very helpful sales lass points out they are part of BT and are we happy with what we are paying on our 'phone bill - so we also come out getting the same 'phone service as before (more or less free calls UK wide) but around £8/month cheaper. And she says when your broadband comes up for renewal come and see us and we'll get you a lower price on that than you would otherwise get direct from BT. Great attention and service from a really helpful and pleasant young lady who was happy to deal with wrinklies. All knees survived unscathed and working better than they had been prior to Monday. Hope teh various invlaids and hospital outpatients are progressing. Enjoy the rest of your evening/day one and all. 21

RMweb Gold Popular Post TheSignalEngineer Posted November 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 7, 2019 (edited) Pop-up water feature in the garden today. Can't get to the greenhouse or garden shed due to flooded path. Wet trip to do school run for grandsons this afternoon. Resorted to using car road was like a river. After snacks and clothes changed dropped them off at badminton club, then as daughter was picking up came home back way to avoid roadworks and flooding on norrmal route. Water across road near Thornsett, judged from bike ride round there last week that it was only about 3" deep at the crown of the road. Slow driving and intense concentration nessessary all the way as mostly unlit country roads. Edited November 7, 2019 by TheSignalEngineer

Of course we the punters will eventually pay any profit shortfall in higher prices, I see Tess&co profits are up again. 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted November 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 7, 2019 I avoid self-service lanes in supermarkets. They are a cheap and unfriendly way of doing away with jobs. They also irritate the @@@@ out of staff assigned to assist. I occasionally find myself in a location where there are no conventional tills. A baffled and vaguely helpless gaze in the direction of the staff member brings them over. I feign complete ignorance and support that by deliberately placing my bag (usually the work backpack) in the bagging area. I have so far managed to get the staff member to scan all my items and help with payment on all such occasions and have left them with the comment “so how does this system help anyone?” M&S on Waterloo station - quite a decent sized shop including a clothing section - is one such. But they do have proper tills upstairs among the bras and underpants. 16 1 1
