RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 15, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2010 With the imminent release of the Genesis kit for these wagons, (and Pitbull' Bocott layout having a Cement works sometimes ), I dug out some pictures from a visit to the works in Westbury in 2004 and trains passing Salisbury in 2003/4. Now who does a model of the lorry trailer? First the trains.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 15, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2010 Now the works, a good start! Various buildings and the tyres used as one of the fuels, mixed with coal, for the driers. (they got the tyres cheap as part of recycling and they also have a very high calorific value)
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 15, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2010 What happens when you forget that extra wagon . . . Inside the plant with the rotary drier and the fire hole where the tyres are added to the fuel mix.

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 15, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2010 No the rest are the same buildings including the group that went round the ones of the quarry on the hill weren't any use for modelling either. One interesting thing is the slurry was piped down to the plant underground and due to the scouring the pipes burst occasionally and you could follow the pipeline even though it was hidden by the occasional stains on the landscape. I'm sure some others have more they can add of the trains over the years. Over to you chaps.
pitbull1845
Paul, thanks ever so much for posting these pictures, they are really useful and yes I do still have an attempt of a small cement works on my layout. I do echo your comments about traffic flow pictures, bring them on... Cheers Scott
R A Watson
Does anyone know how the semi-trailers were put on the rail wagons, were they craned on, or towed on by a special unit as there is no apparent way of a tractor unit being able to access the deck? As an extra comment if you want to model the shunter it now lives at Cranmore on the East Somerset and still carries the remains of a special livery designed by local junior school children. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 15, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2010 Yes they were craned on using a big forklift type loader that also does containers.
