There has just been a posting on another forum that two more have been seen on the test track at Erie, presumably they will be 19 and 20 and could well come via Liverpool shortly.

Jamie

19 and 20 are on their way...

How come they are now arriving one at a time? Isn't that more expensive?

And can anyone comment on my query: I thouight some were to be produced in Turkey and arrive here via the tunnel?

It would be more expensive for them to keep them in the US where they are not earning money. So why not ship them out as soon as they are ready.

You are right about the Turkey thing....I did hear they would be building kit ones over there...but when and if that starts, I dont know.

The UK ones aren't (currently) being produced in Turkey and are therefore not arriving via the tunnel - not sure why you believe they were ? I'm sure I've already answered that question a while ago - in fact I have, in the similar thread and it was you who asked the question :banghead: :banghead:

So, the next batch of Class 70 locos will be coming from "the east" and not "the west".

From the very article you linked to

http://www.railwaygazette.com/nc/news/single-view/view/tuelomsas-to-assemble-ge-powerhaul-locomotives.html

The 30 PH37ACmi PowerHaul locomotives ordered by UK operator Freightliner in November 2007 are to be assembled by GE Transportation in Erie, Pennsylvania.

They're coming on a scheduled service with a "normal" container ro-ro ship. Possibly cheaper than a specialist vessel with heavy cranes.

And as mentioned elsewhere - why not get them working ASAP instead of waiting for 6 to be ready for a shipment?

I'm sure an accountant somewhere will have worked out the costs.

Mick

Mick,

Thanks for the info...a few of us might go to Liverpool see the next lot arrive, Is it likely they will be shipped the same way as the last two.?

Bob

Hi Bob,

Another forum reports that they are to be loaded at Port Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Cheers,

Mick

Might be to do with getting it over the 'hump' at the top of the ramp?

Also in those shots are the BVA 'cassette' steel carriers - didn't know they worked to Liverpool these days!

BVAs have been working to Seaforth for quite a few years now, since the BSAs where replaced. Since about 2005 at a rough guess?
