Hi contacted Joel via facebook and sent him a link to this topic. I also sent him those pictures I drew up. He was impressed and assured me that this was just a first EP and that the final product will be as prototypical as possible.

I hope the model runs better than the prototype!

Comparing Dapol's original CAD images (http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/59092-Dapol-20123-new-catalogue-announcements/) to the prototype, I'd guess that the windows are about 80% the height they should be. So far the message I posted via the Dapol website has gone unacknowledged.

Happy modelling.

Hi , Funnily enough Data Jammers 142 3D model works well with Dapol 153 windows. Tooling to be looked at again luckily overall diemensions look ok a case of a loss in translation- in more ways than one. At least it has been spotted and work now in hand

I thought the underframe looked too deep and the whole body too shallow

The whole bodyside is bizarrely out of proportion, not just the windows. I don't even know where to start with this.

EDIT- the tumblehome, such as it is on a 142, is also at a strange angle: It should be inclined much more steeply towards the unit. I really hope that the tooling can be changed but by that much at this stage...

The Dapol 153 lacks any tumblehome, apparently to accommodate the low profile mechanism (doesn't sound that plausible to me) so I'm not surprised its insufficient on the 142. So, an improvement in this regard. Still a bit of a dogs dinner overall though!

I noticed that the engineering sample of the Pacer that Dapol had in their case at Warley still looked like the windows were on the short side. I had forgotten the details of the conversation on here when I was looking at it, so can't comment on whether the problem was the gap between the windows and the rivet line (discussed above) or whether everything was too high - either way it certainly looked "wrong" :(

The painted sample 33 did look very good though!

Any photos of the 142 spotted at Warley?

I hope they get the model right. Its a really important model for anyone modelling Northern England from the mid 1980s to the present day.

The Class 56 is a bit of a dogs dinner. It body is based on the width over handrails, so is tubby like a Heljan 47! So for me personally its not that appealing and in 2015 with all the technology and information available in excusable too.

Nothing different. The same EP we've seen previously.

Dapol have been focusing on OO gauge in the last couple of months by the looks of it (Class 73, Class 68, Class 59, LNER A4 etc.)

I took this on their stand today. Still looks wrong, but it's now on a shelf right near the bottom...

Hope they get it right!

That is the old 3D print so nothing new there. I gather Dapol are aware of the window height issue and have retooled the CADs accordingly.

When issues with the windows on the 00 GWR railcar were raised I am pretty sure Dapol took them on board. The latest EP for that looked pretty spot-on so I am hopefully the Pacer will be similarly correct when it shows up.

Apparently the 142 has now reached EP stage with an example on show at Telford this weekend. Anyone got any photos?

A slightly distant shot here. Hard to make it out in detail but the windows do look better proportioned now.

Agree, the windows do look much better. Looking forward to this one.

I'd like to see a clearer shot (I mentioned it on the Telford thread and I'm hoping that someone photographed the 142 as the actual subject of a photo, rather than as something in the background) but the signs are encouraging.

Looks much much better... And that seems to be some fairly good detailing on the underframe

any news on whether Dapol will produce the 142 in a greater Manchester or a provincial livery?

I would buy one or two models but not really into t&w yellow or regional railways livery and don't model post privatisation.

I know they may need to change the door type for earlier versions where the livery only operated with original doors but hope Dapol will do this.

also a sound fitted pacer would be good!!

If you have a look at their website, what liveries they intend on producing are listed. If anyone else had any news it would have been made public.

DCC sound can be fitted by the customer or DCC sound specialists. It's an N gauge railbus/DMU. DCC sound is going to be tough.

Why? It shouldn't be provided a bit of thought is put into it at the design stage.  Space (particularly in a unit) for a sound decoder and sugar cube speaker is not that difficult to find.

Never said it was impossible...But with the expectations these days it is going to be difficult to have an interior modeled, detailed underframe and also DCC sound. Somewhere, something has to be compromised.

You are missing the point - if you are already making provision for DCC then adding a slightly larger space for a sound chip and speaker is really not that difficult.  The compromise is made before that in working out if you can fit the mechanism and interior in (the DCC sound provision does not significantly increase the compromise you may have already had to make).
