'CHARD
Always a sucker for a left-field freight survivor, me. The first time an 06 has featured, and just to mess with the transition diesel-heads this is D2416 in green marshalling MGR hoppers in the Millerhill badlands, Bilston Glen to be precise: http://www.railbrit....ete.php?id=5709 Or this: Loanhead in 1971, as BFYE 8528 goes about its furtive business with purpose. Amazingly, a four character headcode is wound-up. Anyone looking to capture this essence could do so in a nice confined space. Tremendous. http://www.railbrit....te2.php?id=5708
Bernard Lamb
From Black's Guide 1861. "From Galashiels there is a branch line of Railway to Selkirk, and the tourist who wishes to go to Abbotsford before or without proceeding to Melrose should come out here and take a ticket for Boldside Ferry Station, which is just opposite Abbotsford". The disussed stations site gives a good write up of the two stations that existed at Boldside. There are several photos of the second station but none of the first. One for the most wanted list? Tim Lewis
is getting close to an unusual angle of Coldstream. Not that unusual: there are quite a few pictures around taken from the footbridge looking towards Tweedmouth. That picture of the J25 is one of my favourite Coldstream pictures (I've had a copy for a few years): I've always wondered what is in the tarpaulin covered opens that make up most of the train. Will we ever see the rear of Coldstream or the rear of the square building at the Tweedmouth end of Kelso station though? I have one picture of the rear of Coldsteam station (from Casserley's collection IIRC), but it's copyright so I can't post it - sorry. What I would love to see is the cattle dock and coal drops at Coldstream - the only areas I don't have photos of to help me model it.

62440
I've seen the maps for the two stations and always wondered why the second was built .... any ideas? If you were to believe the Ian Allan publication "Complete Atlas of Railway Station Names" it could be in connection with the line shown from the Selkirk branch to Thornilee on the Galashiels to Peebles line! Bernard Lamb
I've seen the maps for the two stations and always wondered why the second was built .... any ideas? Reading the passage in the guide led to me look at the map more closely. The strange thing is that the second station is further away from the ferry than the first. 'CHARD
Fresh from Railscot, this one of Rosewell and Hawthornden on its last day - which was some months after closure of the Peebles loop - I had no idea! http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=37320
Roy L S
Forgive me if this has been seen before, but I stumbled on some footage on Youtube the other day, a cine film by "Wully Whustle" in colour of the Langholm Branch freight including it's arrival at Riddings Junction, taking the Token, plus some of it running along the Branch and shunting at Langholm. Then the return being propelled out of Langholm towards Riddings (As I understand it sometimes was). Not sure if it's ok to add the link directly, but it can be found searching the Web under "Langhom Station". So much in this short clip to take in... 37175
What type of loco was that, Bruce? It looks a bit like the wee NBL shunter at Bo'ness.

pH
This is the contractor turning the loco at Kelso! Bruce This might be a silly question - why would he bother turning a shunter?

Bruce Aye, it is a wee NBL ... the one at Bo'ness is D2767 ... not sure what, if any, difference there is between the two but they certainly look very similar: http://preservedshunters.co.uk/psh_shunter.php?class=101&loco=D2767

62440
On this day, half a century ago (OMG), I cycled to Hawick station to ask the price of a ticket to Peebles - the Peebles Loop was closing that weekend - and I wanted to travel over at least part of the line. The clerk at the booking office told me that a return was 12 shillings and 5 pence. My pocket money was 2 shillings and 6 pence. I never did travel the Peebles line! Bruce. It's how I would like to imagine it, but it's hardly economic. http://www.railbrit....e2.php?id=37759 Hi That's exactly how it was, it wasn't uneconomic but it couldn't satisfy the accountants. 62440
Riddings viaduct A friend who lives locally writes a blog and recently in his local travels had approached the viaduct from the Canonbie side. Here's links to his photographs: http://tootlepedal.f...jpg?w=500&h=379 http://tootlepedal.f...jpg?w=500&h=331 Which answers the question I was asked a few weeks ago - but unable to answer - if it was possible to go along the viaduct. You'll need to read his blog to find out if he did! Bruce
