That looks great!

Are both ends like this or just the ones with the grilles?

Both ends are the same - i.e. corridor connection removed. There are links to pics further up the thread.

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks Mick,

I did try working it out from the pictures but still wasn't quite sure! The coaches always seem to be coupled in the same formation so you can't see what's in the middle if that makes sense. I guess they are always used as a pair anyway?

Hi all,

does someone know which coach was on the end of today's Edinburgh to Southampton boat train? It was in DRS compass style livery and appears to be a Mk2, with several words and a little bit of decoration - possibly mention of Edinburgh. It looked a bit like an advertisement coach for the train but I was wondering if someone has a picture of this and whether it is in fact one of the two from the Model Rail pack... albeit, with some changes. I wonder if the advertising is on both sides or just one (like 47826)?

Photos or observations welcome! :)

Cheers,

Ixion.

Hi ewsjo,

Brilliant! That certainly looks like what I saw... though I couldn't see the photo on the side very clearly. I had a rethink about the Model Rail coaches and should have realised they are not the same type, doh! :O

I wonder if a special of the Cruise Saver Travel coach will come to fruition then? Fingers crossed :D

Thanks again,

Ixion.

Very tempted to buy a pair - then remove the brake end corridor and replace with an inspection window as per this pic of

9419

(Then contemplate scratchbuilding a KUA sub nuke wagon.........)

Cheers,

Mick

Any body got any details of these wagons KUA (95770/1)

drawing would be great but photos would help not many on the web that help (all at angles that do not help work details out)

A bit like this one ??

It's not scratch built - but I can locate the box and tell you where it came from !

Regards

Nick

Nick, I would be interested to know where it came from.

Last time I saw one I was told it was a limited edition from BNFL to staff and customers?

Hi Pete

I'll dig the box out.

I've always assumed it was HO - but whatever scale it is... It looks OK.

Purchase wise it was from that niche auction site that isn't a global phenomena...

Regards

Nick

I completely agree with this!

I wasn't aware of this Limited Edition pack when it was first announced and released. I have been trying to buy this pair of coaches for ages but the cheapest I have seen on Ebay are £170 for the pair. This is an extortionate amount considering that's £85 per coach. I don't begrudge spending a lot of money on the hobby but £170+ for two coaches is slightly expensive.

How much were they when first released by Model Rail?

I'm not certain, but I think they were around the £60 mark for the pair.  I thought about purchasing a couple at the time, but in the end I never bothered.

Of course the whole point of a limited edition, is that there is limited supply and therefore they won't be repeated.

I'm afraid that's the way the hobby splits between what I would call the 'users' and the 'investors'. One of the reasons we did away with limited edition certificates was to reduce the 'collectability' of the models - and because it seemed there were actually more 'users' than investors' buying the models and certificates were less important to them. However, once a limited edition has been produced and sold out, it's 'not cricket' to re-run it. If we notice high demand BEFORE the model is produced we do sometimes increase the quantity to try and ensure that people aren't disappointed. (CJL)

Thank you very much for the very informative reply.

It would be fantastic to see a re-run of this pair of coaches.

Yes unfortunately there are a lot of users who will buy one or multiple of the same limited/special/collectors item and then sell them on Ebay for a fortune. It's a shame that a minority do this because it spoils it for the majority because the actual collectors can't get there hands on the model they want without paying an extortionate amount of money for it.

Why does MR's or anyone else's run of a model have to be a limited edition at all? State the number to be produced in the batch and perhaps state no more will be produced for at least 12 months. That would reduce the speculators as their risk rises with demand.

my local model shop had a set last year (belonging to a former drs driver collegue of mine) for £100 iirc, i would have snapped them up had i not already got them when they were first released, thankfully it was one model railway purchase i didnt have to sell when i lost my job a few years back
