USA & Canadian Layouts

Recommended Posts

I feel it would be useful to have a topic covering group members layouts / modelling projects. A lot of these topics can get missed or overlooked in the main discussion board as we are well outnumbered in relation to non-USA / Canadian posts.

Encouragement / information coming from modellers with a common interest can only be beneficial to us all. I hope!!!

Here is the link to my current project, which is located in the Layouts section of the main forum.

Hi guys, great idea.

My first foray into US modelling will appear at TVNAM too, but hoping to aspire to Funits standards :D

I've not got a layout thread on here yet and instead of linking to my bigblue thread I shall endeavour to upload a few items later today and over the coming few weeks leading upto the show. The layout is Miami downtown based (aren't they all I hear you cry) although Lance inspired I've tried to do my own thing.

I'll post my layout in the group so watch this space.

Dave

Prof other than Carls site any info on your Chicag O fork layout. I really liked that.

My two, Duncan's Mine & Black Rock, Buffalo have been to a few shows and DM was featured in the January 2009 edition of Continental Modeller and issue 91 of Model Trains International. BR may make it into a future edition of CM, with a bit of luck.

I don't have any websites or blogs but both layouts made it onto the late and lamented Carl's Micro Layouts site.

BR will also be at the TVNAM show, plus Bridlington on 28th.

Oh blimey - that shouldn't be hard...!!!

I think that TVNAM is going to become something of a focal point for those of us on this side of The Pond, modelling stuff on that side of The Pond :drinks: .... RMweb members will only be allowed in if they bring a layout....

Dear F-Unit,

If someone can organise the flights, count me in with Chicago Fork, and a On30 "micro" in tow... ;) :drinks:

Dear Dave,

What would you like to know? I don't own the layout any more, but have some "in-build-stage" pics which may be helpful.

(suggest starting a new thread/topic within "USA & Canadian Layouts"?)

We can add the Thamesider's modular layout in 'Essex Belt Lines' HO to the list. It changes size and shape regularly from a minimum of 30' by 11' to a potential 60' by 60' with all modules and branch Free-mo bits added on. Which includes my 4 'Millarville' modules.

My HO Essex Montana is in the baseboard bodging stage. Its 22' by 7' stretchable to 30' by 7' roundy. 1990 to 2003 BN & BNSF. I've set myself a goal to have it ready for exhibition by next June.

I'd like to add 'Kuppla yard', as shown at TVNAM in 2010 see www.kupplayard.webs.com

For 2011 TVNAM I'll be bringing 'Hoxie Harbor.' see www.hoxieharbor.webs.com

I've just started my 2012 layout which is based in the Minnesota Commercial shortline domain. I'll be starting a website for it shortly.

Looking forward to meeting all you experts again on June 11th..

Cheers

Dave

Dear Dave,

For some reason both Kuppla and Hoxie sites are not being found at 20:30 Aust Eastern Standard Time,

and the Wayback Machine is not finding either archived or "live" versions either???

Strange, John - I've just tried both the links and they come up without problem - an older alternative is here

Jack

Dear Jack, Dave,

Interesting, a TraceRT to the KupplaYard site from here at home says that I get to Washington DC, and then hit a wall,

(request timed out/refused)

but if I remote-desktop into work, I can get there...

(page displaying as we speak... :D )

Oh the vagaries of the 'net...

I got the link okay - best to wear sunglasses though  !! ... and those who abhor graffiti might find the background somewhat.... :bad: !!!

:D :D :D

Dave, this looks remarkable like your picture featured in MTI#94 of "Port Moxie"... I take it there's been a name change..??

Well, it brightens up a dull day! But I need to do an update to that site, so will maybe tone it down a little.

It's always been Hoxie Harbor I haven't seen Port Moxie yet.

See you soon !

I finally managed to join the group through Google Chrome - Internet Explorer didn't want to know for some reason, luckily I run 3 different browsers depending on what I am doing on the web.

I'll do a quick link to Harrington, my Freelance HO switching layout, also to be seen at TVNAM again this year:

http://www.rmweb.co....__1#entry146771

Please enter Harrington in the RMweb search engine for more recent updates.

I am also just starting to build another US switching layout (OH NO!!!!!! Not another US shunty plank!!!!yes.gif), but with a difference - I want to use it as a tutorial for other members of RMweb and anyone else who may be interested. I receive a lot of questions on the techniques I have used on Harrington and would like to share them with others - what do you think and where should I post the step by step guide? This also means I will have something different for TVNAM next year if Nick will have me backpleasantry.gif.

All the best and thanks for the invite to join the group.

Jez

Jez - with your high standards, you're more than welcome to come back, especially with a new layout. :drinks:

We can discuss it at the show.
