West Coast Switching Layout

Recommended Posts

Jack you are very naughty posting all these links to such inspirational stuff...  how's a chap supposed to focus on one idea... :D

Things I particularly like are the hidden point switches on the HO layout, which must copy the real thing quite well, and the diamond crossing to the kick-back spur on the N scale layout - inspired !! - and so different to the 'obvious' route of taking the kick-back off the front spur - the crossing is so much more visually interesting..!! just to add a further link , in the write up for X-street , there is a link to an O scale switching layout plan called "69th Street" :

this appears to be a french language website , but , as always , google translate is your friend.

The Blog of Fabrice Ffayolle (my apologies if I have spelled his name wrongly - a well known designer of model railways - you will also find some of his stuff on P'tit Train http://blog.ptitrain.com/ a french on-line magazine

la-la-la I'm not looking... :pleasantry:

Oh Horlicks, I just did...

Actually that plan reminds me of one of Marshall Vine's "Kingsbury" layouts...

That's the same (almost!) as a layout I had published in MR back in the '90s with a BN theme. The only difference is they've added an extra siding off the sector plate.

Hi Fabrice

My BN layout was several years ago so I don't think anybody remembers it! (Except maybe Shortliner... ;) )

I wasn't suggesting you had copied my idea or anything like that. After all, there is a finite number of ways you can put pieces of track and turnouts together.

I was also very impressed with your layouts.

Oh - and welcome to the forum.

I do, in fact I still have the copy of the magazine somewhere in my basement and indeed I too "ripped off" the track plan for one of my own layouts that did the rounds of local shows in Minnesota.

I know.... it was as I recall the May 1999 issue. You inspired me with that to build my first exhibition layout "Metusa Junction" which i build from that point to early October 1999 where she went to her first exhibition. From 1 module I expanded it to 2 modules and it lasted for almost 7 years. She is no more but I was very succesful with it. For that I thank you!!!

I remember this layout well from being in Model Railroader - I was in my early 20s or younger and it probably sewed some of the seeds of my interest in N A Railroads.
