Can you program 'bounce' of the signal arm on the servo system that you are using ?

JB.

If the firmware of the controller board is updated to "Sema4", then there is variable bounce at the start/end of the travel.

Hi All,

Thanks for the kind comments.

JB, as richard says above it's just a case of building the standard servo4 board and then reprogramming the PIC to upgrade it to the SEMA4 software, bounce is then programmed into the

servo movement using a pc to set the amount.

I hope to have the servo 4 kit here next week so will start building it when it arrives and obviously post my progress on here :), I have the signal mounted on a plastic box that will take all of the electronics as a demonstration unit.

Cheers

Hello,

As I have not posted on here for a long tome so I though it was high time that I do something about it.

Since posting last not a great deal has happened as I have been very busy at work and also with the great weather that we have been having, live steam in 5" gauge and 1:1 have taken priority. All has not been quiet though, the K1 progresses albeit at a very slow pace. I have however managed to find the time to build a couple more of Connoisseurs lovely van kits and one of Jim's 6 wheel coaches, I have also managed to make a start on an old Connoisseur J69 kit that I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

post-7502-128169808919_thumb.jpg

Connoisseur S&D Brake 3rd Composite, a very nice and enjoyable kit to build, now awaiting painting and then an interior needs to be fitted. This coach will hopefully be the start of a short rake destined for a small layout that is currently sitting in the forefront of my mind. It will probably be painted in LNER coach brown, although wrong for this design I think it will look the part.

post-7502-128169824051_thumb.jpg

A Connoisseur GER 10 Ton ventilated van, as with all of Jims kits, this one was as expected a joy to build in a couple of evenings.

post-7502-128169833371_thumb.jpg

LNER 12 Ton Fruit Van, another nice kit to build, I now have all of the vans in the connoisseur range so will have to start looking elsewhere. I still need a dozen or so more for a reasonable van train for the J39

when built.

post-7502-128169843844_thumb.jpg

Progress with the K1 has been slow, I still have the pickups, chassis detail and Motion to do, as well as detail parts to add to the loco body. I will crack on with this kit as soon as the inspiration hits again.

post-7502-128169855903_thumb.jpg

A couple of photo's of the J69, Jim produced the etches for this kit as a special rerun a few years ago, I failed to purchase one at the time but my look was in when I found one on a trade stand a few weeks ago. As he no longer had the moulds for the castings he included those from the J68 kit, I shall however have to order some casting from Laurie Griffin for this as I wish to model a loco with the early stovepipe chimney as fitted to this class.

I should really have waited until I had finished the K1 before starting this kit, however I like small tank loco's and I really like the running quality of the J68 and can see no reason why this should be any different. I intend to use the same motor and gearbox combination, Mashima 1833 Roxey 40:1 and Lenz silver decoder.

Happy Modelling

Hello,

Not posted in a while so I thought that it was about time that I pulled my finger out and got something done.

I have been very busy at work for the last few months working nice long 6 day weeks, however I am having a little respite at the moment so some progress has been made at my Workbench.

The J69 has finally been finished and is currently in the paint shop, the chassis has been painted ready for a light weathering before the wheels go back on, and the Loco itself has been primed ready for painting later this week.

Sadly the pictures were taken in poor light and then enhanced so are not the greatest of quality I am afraid.

I finished the main build of the Loco last Thursday and since then I have started building a DJH Class 03 shunter, I should hopefully have pics of the near completed loco to post tomorrow. However I am in 2 minds whether to post them here on this thread or should I keep the topics of LNER steam and BR Diesels in separate threads. Any thoughts welcome.

Hi all,

A quick update as to progress on the Buckjumper. The chassis is now chipped and fully assembled and has had a nice couple of hours running in on the rolling road. The body has had it's coat of black paint, but I am still waiting for the GER buffers to arrive before completing the paint job.

Anyhoo, here's a pic.....

P.S. Yes, I have noticed that I have three sets of Front/Rear drivers on this side and that the other side has two centre wheels on it. This has now been corrected.

Hi All,

After digging through the depths of RMweb in order to find this post, I am pleased to say that I can finally add some progress.

I am currently working away from home 5 day s a week and so modelling time is very thin on the ground at the moment. I did however have a bit of a tidy up of some old started but unfinished kits.

Here are a couple of pictures of now finished models. The first is a Connoisseur LNER 22T Plate wagon, this was probably started back in the late 90's and just sat languishing in a box until found at my parents house while having a clearout at christmas.

post-7502-0-06669200-1306049762_thumb.jpg

The second is an LNER Lowfit, again Connoisseur and a wonderfully enjoyable kit to build. This had sat unbuilt for a little while until I decided that I wanted a quick build in between other projects. A weekend work was all that was required followed by a few weeks painting and stencilling.

Thanks for looking.

J69 came out very nicely...! IIRC though... the engines with the drop down brake pull rods were freight only engines and had unbalanced wheels, non-screw couplings, and didn't have any brake hoses.. very simple engines..

Dont quote me on that though will you.. laugh.gif

Hi JB,

Thanks for the info, I may try and replace the pull rods on my model, 7083 as looking at the picture that I have it does have straight rods.

However if you have 'Yeadons register of Locomotives of the LNER' book 48 which includes the J69s then there is picture of 7339 on page 113

clearly showing, dropped rods along with a vac pipe and balanced wheels

.The wonders of the J69 class, everything seems to be a possibility!

Cheers

Hi All,

Well I finally done a bit more building which warrants an update to this thread.

I have had a quiet period after the holidays and so I have made a start on the Connoisseur J39 kit.

This kit will be built as 1491 in LNER plain Black livery, powered by a Ron Chaplin 30:1 gearbox. I have fitted springs to the centre axle as in the original design the centre wheels are raised slightly in order to allow the model to negotiate tight curves.

Sadly I started this kit and got on a roll, which does mean that I failed totally to take any pictures of the early part of the build.

Anyway, here are a few pics of progress so far, also a couple of an LNER Perishables van, also from Connoisseur.

Hello All,

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I found myself with a free week as I job that I had was cancelled at the last minute.

This meant that I found myself wondering what I could possibly do with a paid week off, realising that we had a club running session on Sunday I decided that if I got a wriggle on I could probably have the loco finished for a test run.

I actually managed more than that and not only is the loco built and test run but thanks to the nice warm(ish) weather at the back end of last week I managed to get paint and transfers on too.

Pictures of the complete loco will appear in due course when I get time to download them from the camera, however here are a few pics from Thursday before painting commenced...

All I can really say is that as with all of Jim's kits the build was a very easy process with no obvious pitfalls, all that was needed were a few good pics of my chosen loco.

Thanks Peter and Rob.

The inside motion is only what is included in the kit. I did consider adding working motion from another source but decided that If I added it to this loco then I would ideally need to add it to my other

inside valve geared locos too.

A cop out, but one that worked in my head I am afraid.

Cheers

I agree, you have to do what works for you Andy.

I have taken the plunge and bought working inside motion sets for a couple of my loco's but I am not sure that I can run to it for them all. I may chose to buy non working sets though once I have had a close look at what, if anything is provided in my kits (one of them is Jim's N10 so I am sure that will have something) - not until I get much near to building them.

Hi Andy, some great stuff here, can't believe I haven't commented yet, that J39 looks superb, a friend built one of those kits a few years ago and said it was a pleasure to put together, as all of Jim's kits are. 1491 must be a popular loco, I've recently completed an EM model of it (Alexander kit) for Scottiedog!

The J39 looks very nice and tidy build Andy - all you have to do now is pluck up the courage to weather it down a little!

I do like it with the small tender, my Chinese one has the 4200 gallon tender, which only a limited number had.

Tony

Hi All,

HarryM, yes you are correct this is on Holiday Haunts now owned by Sir William McAlpine. A very nice simple layout with lots of very nice scenery.

Paul and tony, thanks for your kind words. I have now built most of jims catalogue and must admit that they do go together beautifully. Yes it does need weathering a little but I am going to have to wait until I can build up the experience, and courage to do so. The tender is an interesting one, I always wanted to do a large tendered version but after seeing this I think that you are right, a smaller one does look better.

As to the number, I chose it as there is a good pic of it in the Yeadons Register that I just liked the look of.....

Cheers

Hi all,

After a 3 month work induced abstinence from modelling, I have finally managed to get a few hours at the workbench.

Looking at the pile of things to build I noticed that following a delivery of 2 Finney A4 kits, I had a quite a few large locos to build.

Deciding to remedy this I looked at the options available.

About a year ago a friend was kind enough to tell me of a kit that he thought I may be interested in that was for sale.

A quick negotiation later and I was the happy owner of a DJH 4472 Fling Scotsman with twin tenders kit, one of a limited edition of 50 kits.

Not only was the price very agreeable but upon receipt of the kit I found that a full set of Slaters wheels was included!

Thoughts turned to the build and I decided that the best plan of attack was from the back forwards, and so with this in mind I found all of the parts for the water carrying tender and photographed them for this thread.....

post-7502-0-01678800-1348586366_thumb.jpg

I then committed a crime against RMweb threads. This all took place last wednesday and by Thursday I had a complete water tender.

By Saturday I had a complete Loco Tender but........NO PICTURES!!!!!!

All i can say in my defence is that as they went together so well I just got carried away!

I shall all being well post the pics of the completed tenders as time permits, as I have managed to find more work for few weeks!

Cheers

Work has slowed during the last few days as my free time has become more scarce.

Work has started on the frames which are now ready to have the hornblocks soldered in place, to this end I have also built the Coupling Rods

in order to get the correct centres.

Looking at the above pictures it seems as though I have a lot of cleaning up to do before priming. Hopefully this will be the last time as I have now taken delivery of a Resistance Soldering Kit. :)
