eastwestdivide
On a slightly dull day in mid-1988... An HST in the platform, with a red stripe round the nose A 37 with the new-ish china clay hoppers. Might be 37672 from blowing up the original, but couldn't swear to it. And a new-fangled 155313 crossing to the Newquay platform I think. Did some Newquay trains run through to Plymouth then?
seahorse
Ref through working of Plymouth to Newquay I stayed at Perranporth near Newquay and had a three-day-in-seven Rover in 1999 and 2002. There was a weekday train from Plymouth to Newquay around 18.00, but no corresponding eastbound through train. But coming from Gunnislake, I worked out that it was cutting it too fine to go to Plymouth, so changed at Devonport or Keyham, and wondered if I was the only person ever to make that particular connection! RMweb Gold bcnPete Posted November 17, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2011 Another two from me...sorry about the weather... I wish I had been a little more thorough in those days, recording in detail what I had actually photographed...I really do miss those years though... Unidentified 50 on air cons...EDIT 50050 perhaps?... Unidentified 37 on clay hoods...

Rivercider
I have found pictures of another trip I made to Cornwall, most of the pictures I took that day were at Lostwithiel, but I then moved down to Par in the afternoon, and took 3 photos. I caught the 13.50 Plymouth - Penzance for the trip to Par, although the Penzance - Paddington trains were all booked for HSTs that winter the local Plymouth - Penzance workings provided some variety. 47402 was the loco that day on the 13.50 Plymouth - Penzance. At Par the Driver of 47402 'Gateshead' looks back to see how the station work is going. 15/11/82. 45033 working 6C43 15.15 Drinnick Mill - Severn Tunnel Junction Air Brake Service arrives in the loop platform. 15/11/82. The 13.45 Penzance - Bristol was another interesting working, it was another loco hauled service with a short (4?) coach set and a tail traffic of vans. 50018 'Resolution' brings the 13.45 Penzance - Bristol into Par, 15/11/82. cheers

flyingsignalman
In late June 1991 I made my one and (so far) only visit to Par station. I met a friend who was staying at Penzance and we had a look around the area. First to arrive was a freight from the west (Truro, maybe). It stopped in the platform, ran round and then went to St Blazey. The loco is 47 147 and the Kemira wagons in the train made us realise you can't escape work for long! The passenger from Newquay arrived and after emptying was shunted to the refuge siding, signalled by the disc on the bracket signal We then went to the signalbox where the Signalman allowed us to look around and take a few photos (being Signalmen ourselves probably helped here) Two views of the panel also installed in there
flyingsignalman
Leaving the box we took a few photos around the station before walking down to St Blazey This last photo of the down side building suffered due to the film not winding on properly but its the only one I have of it A photo from the bridge of the station

flyingsignalman
The rear view of St Blazey box (I couldn't get a decent front view) Arriving back Par 47473 passed through on the up with a parcels train 37412 then arrived from St Blazey with a freight Almost immediately that had left, 47147 came back up with its freight Finally, I caught my train back to Plymouth, seen here after reaching there

Boscarne
Here's a few more from Par. My notes for these are long gone but all are from the late 80's.
Rugd1022
Very nice Clive B) I remember those two faded blue CCT vans on the up side, I think they were in use as stores vans for the P/Way chaps. I spent a week down there in August '89 and used up several rolls of film on Par, Lostwithiel, Truro etc, must dig them out and see what's what. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 25, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2011 Very nice Clive B) I remember those two faded blue CCT vans on the up side, I think they were in use as stores vans for the P/Way chaps. I spent a week down there in August '89 and used up several rolls of film on Par, Lostwithiel, Truro etc, must dig them out and see what's what. Possibly S&T stores although I think the S&T had been relocated to the 'Cornwall Panel 'Box' building (it's visible in one of Flying Signalman's pics - the bungalow like brick building on the Up side opposite the western end of the platform) as it was intended at first that it would be used solely by the S&T techs until the panel was put in so they had part of it as their stores. But then I think once the resignalling scheme bit the dust the PWay also got part of the building and it's original purpose was quietly forgotten. Strange that the Western built a couple of buildings, and not much else, for a couple of major resignalling schemes although the only one which was intended to house a panel was the one at Par; the one which houses Swindon B signalbox was going to be a separate techs messroom building for the inverted bathtub shape 'silver slug' Western 'superbox' which also bit the dust as a scheme. Rugd1022
Cheers Mike Just re-scanned some of those shots of Par from that August '89 trip.... 50 008 drags a failed met-Cam unit off the Newquay branch... 47 551 heads for Laira on the Up Main... 37 672 comes down the bank from Carlyon Bay, nearly caught me out this one as it was going at some pace... The only shot I have of 50 149, taken some time earlier...
cornish trains jez
Judging by all these superb photos, the 80's offered such a wide variety of different liveries. All extremely helpful for my model of Par! Keep the great photos coming!!
