chrisf
I had a good day there yesterday. How can one fail to be impressed by Gresley Beat, particularly the magnificent buildings? Likewise the two avenues of trees on Swaynton and the rather fine quarry on Ynysybwl [which not enough people can pronounce. Welsh isn't that difficult! Repeat after me: Unn-iss-a-bull, emphasis on first and last syllables]. Let the operators concerned not blush as one of them often does but the shunting of the freight on Coldfair Green kept me entertained for a good three-quarters of an hour. The station looks easy to shunt but isn't and therein lies appeal. What is very easy is to tie yourself up in knots. Well done lads! Once again I forgot my badge so was incognito to many: perhaps just as well! Chris

kintbury jon
I'll be there with Khan, flying the flag for narrow gauge modelling (and overseas modelling too), so please drop by and say hello. I am really looking forward to seeing Gresley Beat again. Julian Well my two kids loved Khan. Don't know whether it was you we spoke to today or your friend. They loved the uncertainty of which hole the trains were going to appear from!

Best Wishes, Mick.
Adam
Just made it back home from a show which was well up to its usual standard. Particular thanks to the Swaynton crew (magnificent layout) who allowed me to do a spot of test running - and take a lousy photo of their lovely model with this minor anachronism heading through on freight... Thanks too to the organisers. Adam

jbe
Well my two kids loved Khan. Don't know whether it was you we spoke to today or your friend. They loved the uncertainty of which hole the trains were going to appear from! So glad that your children enjoyed the layout - if the person you spoke to had a beard, then it was me. Overall it was definitely a good show as an exhibitor, well organised with helpful club members around, free tea and coffee and an excellent lunch time selection. Apart from the obviously brilliant Gresley Beat, I thought there were many good layouts of which I would particularly mention Portskerra, Lower Exbury and Stoney Lane Depot. kintbury jon
Yes it was you. My son said that it was the best layout he had seen so far, and it remained so. Was lovely to see something so different.
Tim Hale
We had a very pleasant day out - Kevin relieved me of much hard earned. Nice to socialise with the usual gentlemen My thanks to the organisers and exhibitors for providing so many people with a very postive experience. Well done. Highlandman
Just had a great day at the show and was really impressed with the range of layouts there. Centre piece had to be The Gresley Beat but the others all ran a close second. I managed to get some pictures but no apologies for posting more of Gresley. I hope you like them. I just couldn't help doctoring this one in Photoshop.
brightspark
Anyone know who makes the railings visible in the above photo? I do. Cos I put them there. They are etches by Blacksmith models but modified. I added 5 amp fuse wire along the horizontal section to beef them up. A tip given to me by Gerry Hall. The gate posts are made up of styrene strip. I went down to a local LSWR station to measure these up. Adam, it was pleasure to see a bit of blue on Swaynton. As you said this is is only 8 years later than the model is set (1968 & 1960) On behalf of the SWaynton Team thank you all for your kind comments and we are gald that you enjoyed it. Thanks to the organisers for putting on a quality show with some fine layouts and excellent facilities. oes anyone know what won best layout? Tudor Rose
I had a wonderful weekend at Southampton with my layout Lower Exbury and was very impressed with the whole exhibition and how friendly it was. So a huge thank you and well done to the organisers. In answer to the question who won best layout, I think it was Llanmarth which was in the Theatre, just inside the doorway. Ceptic
Well, I think it should be SWaynton! JE Seconded :good_mini: One of those marvellously meticulous layouts, where 'Less, is definiely, More'. Reminded me of my younger days, i.e. cycle rides out to the 'Forest stations, such as Lyndhurst Road, Beaulieu Road, Sway, Hinton Admiral etc. As always, a Great exhibition, in a Great railway town. Well done, and a hearty thanks to All involved .

Indeed it was Llanmarth. A lovely piece of atmospheric modelling with the prize being awarded by club members (I think). Julian
brightspark
A noble winner. It was awarded by three annonymous judges appointed by the committee. Anymore pictures of layouts out there that can be posted please?
HerbertHopkins
I had a great day out but spent the greater part of the day admiring the Gresley Beat, do we know were it will appear next? I was talking to Cliff, who is the brains behind this marvellous model, and he told me it will be at York over the Easter weekend.
