EBay madness

A couple of pages ago, we were talking about if anyone had done anything to motorise GBL static models.

I've just come across a pic of the other go I had, its the copy of a Bachmann J39, all I did was plonk a bog-standard Hornby 0-6-0 chassis* under it (you can tell by the mismatch between the wheels and the splashers) and made a simple chassis for the tender.   But it works ok, and trundles about nicely when it's allowed out!

I have motorised the J39, K3, C and the Coronation, all using RTR chassis.

How difficult is it to remove the 'solid piece' cylinders/chassis/wheels/motion' piece?

Depends on the model. Usually it's two screws and the whole lot falls apart. Cutting disc in the Dremel to slice in a slot for your desired chassis, little bit of plastic sheet to pack out and level and your good to go. All mine were done in a day. K3 was the easiest. An old Triang Jinty chassis, and the original valve gear/cylinders left as they were. The Jinty rods are all you notice if you weather down the plastic ones.

Could be the start of a new trend in the hobby. No more messing around with airbrushes and weathering paint. just plonk your loco in a box with a breeding pair of weathering mice and wait a month.
