EBay madness

What if they were brought in by a customer? I think it would be proper to have all the facts first before potentially damaging someones livelihood.

Very true but if I was one of his customers would I be able to go into his shop and buy one tomorrow for the Bachmann rrp of £84 ?

Not madness but just a little divertisement. After the recent furore over someone claiming Larry Goodard provenance, someone here who knows his place! He has a couple of coaches which are 'not to Larry Goddard standard'. Made me smile anyway.

Its £94.45 for the SECR one. At least it proves they are still out there, there is always a mass panic when the big box shifters sell out yet you can find them in other places. Bit like the Hornby Parcels van that started to go up in price on ebay whilst they were sat on the shelves at full rrp in Modelzones.

The end price was set by daft bidders on that C Class rather than a dealer profiteering. If anyone wants one at RRP give a call and see if he's got any left. ;)

I have but he's not answering the phone. ;)

Couldnt agree more Andy. I have heard from Rails that Bachmann plan to re-release both the 461 and 462 models in the new year at some point, but surely you would have thought they would reintroduce a number of 460 versions? There are numerous examples on eBay of them going for well over a ton, a small additional run would surely be wise? I'm just glad I got mine at Warley now, but given the regularity of them on eBay, I cannot understand why anyone would pay more than twice the RRP.

I think the problem for Bachmann is (commissions apart) they don't do less than 3,000 for items they're producing themselves. They do commisions for just over 500 (512?) but then the commissioner has to carry the financial risk.

Although the SECR has flown off the shelves can they sell another 3000 at the factory? Is the demand almost satisfied, making 3000 risky?

They could try a stunt like they did when the LT Pannier L89 flew off the shelves and issue another one in a set, BUT they (or at least retailers) seem to have caught a cold with the Midnight Metropiltan set, and retailers have been breaking this set into component parts.

Yes the SECR C is a lovely model, but another 3000?

Does a subsequent run have to be 3000? The tooling is already there and it is just set up costs. A smaller run would be feasible as a price increase would be possible and still cheaper than an ebay purchase.

In an interview some while back (with Trains4U?) it was stated that retailers have to look for items which will sell in a volume of 500ish but has to be less than 3000 or Bachy will do it themselves. Given that some 're-liveries' for shops have been little more than a change of running number it looked like that held true over the last few years. Certainly I've seen nothing to suggest Bachmann will entertain anything smaller for their in-house runs.

Bachmann have always said if they do a rerun it will be different to the previous release so expect 461A and 462A will a differnet running number. Would a non preserved SECR C sell? Before anyone points out Evening Star there is at least 6 versions they can issue simply on the strength of different shed codes.

Its really up to the buyer .I bought a new Fuji F30 -F31 cameras in a new years sale .I knew they were sought after so stuck it on ebay at well over three times its price .It sold within a few minutes of listing .I went back and bought the other two they had in stock .Sold one and kept one .Nice little earner .I even put the original receipts in as to keep them in warrenty .Customers were very happy .We have no right to object at anyone making a bob or two from ebay .Its the customers choice whether they buy not the sellers duty to make no profit .I have an unopened green livery C thats getting tempting .It could go towards a new guitar amp I actually need.I expect the dealer selling them is putting some of his profit to paying taxes and other expenses that he actually needs to do .No-one actually needs a little green engine however cute but a lot need money so let the wheels of business keep on turning .

I have to say I quite agree, Whether it's been confirmed or not, I am sure that in due course another SECR version will be produced. Remember the RTC Class 24? Bachmann did an LE run a few years back that quickly sold at premium. A coupe of years back they did another run for Modelzone. That now sells for a premium but did let some of us fill the gap at the time. Model railways are a relatively specialist item and given that all items are never going to be continuously in production, there will always be some items not currently made which can be sold privately (or even by shops with old stock) at whatever price the market will bear.

Interestingly enough, whilst the SECR Wainwright sold out quickly, t didn't disappear instantly from the shops - Holborn Modelzone had them for at least a week. I think part of the problem may have been that if you missed the discounter's stock, paying full RRP (£94.50 in this case) may have stuck in the craw on principle - except that as we have seen, in this case, full RRP was in fact a very reasonable price to pay. Indeed, I suspect Hattons, Rails etc would all agree that discounting (which they do as a commercial business to drive volume) was, in the case of this product, entirely unnecessary to shift their stock!

  Possibly the spill chucker?

....and yet if you go down to the lower half of the section <specifics> it has the name right - someone is obviously incapable of copying - and they say the world isn't dumbing down!

The origimal run was a RAIL EXPRESS magazine Limited Edition and as you say another run was done some years later for Modelzone. The later run was a improvement as things had moved on with working lights etc.
