Michael Delamar
just watching the excellent B&R video Wirral steam, which features lots of nice colour footage of the 9f's on the Bidston dock to Shotton iron ore trains in the late 1960s. Ive searched a few times for shots of these trains with not much luck, but searched just now and come across these gems.. 92046 Upton Stn. 19.7.67 by George of Dufton, on Flickr 92057 Upton Stn. 19.7.67 by George of Dufton, on Flickr 92108 Heswall Hills Stn. 18.7.67 by George of Dufton, on Flickr 92xxx Heswall Hills Stn. 18.7.67 by George of Dufton, on Flickr

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted March 16, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2012 9F + brake van; even a micro layout can have that!! Great pics. Last 9F I saw in real steam was as I went up the M6 in July1966 whilst hitching to Newcastle (well Whitley Bay actually). It was going south (near the Manchester Ship Canal bridge?) on bogie oil wagons. P @ a long way from the Wirral. P.S. M6 - Newcastle? Well I'd started at 83D and was working my way up and across; last lift was at dusk, east of Carlisle, in a very nice sports car of some description! Journey ended at Newcastle Central. Happy days. flyingsignalman
Two, not very good ones, of 25 109 and 25 043 leaving Bidston Dock on their way to Shotwick Sidings on 10/9/1978. The person in the foreground is on the track bed of the Seacombe branch, the only part remaining after the Kingsway Tunnel approach road was built. The large green building in the background was the Bidston Steel Mill (built on the site of the Great Central Bidston Sidings) and now replaced by a Tesco Store. Michael Delamar
nice shots. I made a start on a Warren Shepard 7mm wagon and gave up half way through a few years back, due to inexperience and so it now provides scrap brass for other projects. would like a train in 4mm in the future but not in any immediate hurry and not for any layout, I cant really think of a good place on the route to model, maybe Bidston but itd be big. Michael Delamar
Bidston from the footbridge to the junction would be good, can have the 503's then. or Upton as it had a small goods yard but never seen many pics of that, dont think any of the others day any goods yards or much of modelling interest?
