Stu from EGDL
FAO Dapol Dave; Hi Dave; The issue of the detail on the blue Class 27 should be ok for most timescales...as it seemed to be an on & off mod due to spares shortages!! 27007 wore it for much longer. Hope you get the cab windows matched up to running numbers!!! Of course, there are a few variants..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/48862732@N02/5342625192/http://www.flickr.com/photos/48862732@N02/5342625192/ Later; STU from EGDL
'CHARD
Of course, if you are rich and single, then you don't even have to ask. ...bear in mind it's not like you'll be entirely without wood. (Ahem. I'll just grab my coat off that plank.)

What are you on about Stu? What spares shortages caused what changes in the livery? (p.s. I realised you were either talking about the temporary replacement of the cab doors or centre screens with blank panels - or class 26 type doors - hopefully Dapol wouldn't make the mistake of limiting the scope with these relatively short term changes).... CME and Bottlewasher
Hi, Great to hear that an 08 is on the cards - even if I have an unbuilt kit still to do - the price does sound tempting too (I could really do with an un-numbered GFYE version). There are several kits for the 08 on the market yet a RTR version, if done well, may well make such obsolete to all but the most die hard of builders. I would like to see the Dapol cl22 upscaled to 7mm/1ft as well - I did ask Dapol but still await a reply Looking forward to seeing more/progress in the near future...... Bob Reid
Surely CME the ideal candidate would be the 27 in 7mm scale......
CME and Bottlewasher
Surely CME the ideal candidate would be the 27 in 7mm scale...... RTR Rats in 7mm is a real opportunity for a manufacturer....... Yet if a company has the CAD etc for a model (Cl22) already then such would be a good move (although JLTRT have announced their long awaited kit - but at what price in these 'cash starved' times)? A RTR Cl 73 would be a boon too - perhaps take up the slack of a.n.other manufacturer as they mentioned that they may produce a Cl 14 and then decided not too . The pricing for the 08 looks to be very good indeed especially if the balance is right in terms of appearance and quality etc. (which if Dapol's Cl22 in 4mm is anything to go by then it should be), a.n.other manufacturer has been edging up prices of 7mm RTR of late and still hasnt sorted glazing and other issues etc. yet. I realise that production batches of 7mm scale locos may be smaller than those for '00' but the price difference always seems to be (for other manufacturers in the past) more than just double the price (with others' RTR models), relative to size and materials, so it is very refreshing to hear of sub £200.00 prices (£169?) for the 08, which seems to be well considered as well as representing excellent value for money. The 08 is bound to inspire more to move on up a scale to 7mm/1ft - rude not to really because at the very least the RTR/Ready-To- Lay track already available looks more to scale with correct sleeper spacing etc. than that of '00', even if it aint quite right either (I'll get me coat now!! ).... ATB CME CME, Never mind the Rat, but that 73 in O too would be most welcome. I can see a 73 accompanying that nice new 08 on a Southern shunting layout (Rochester (http://www.kentrail....goods_depot.htm) or Chatham Docks, or Sheerness yard) very well. Of course the potential for mainline versions on Gatwicks and engineers trains would be equally welcome. Or the Willesden Dover TPO, or test trains, or in Merseyside. The options... Will have to carry on hoping. Tom
darren01
Dapol Dave “you’re a very naughty boy†doing a gronk in O gauge for under £200.00, I said I would never do O gauge (cost) But this has got me to think again. I have already got the layout in my head already for it! As I have a soft spot for them, one thing you are doing a late crest with out wasp strips? I don’t think by then their where many with out them, I maybe wrong. Well done Dapol amazing news!!!.

Gummy-Joe
Just thought I would check in on RMWeb to see what Dapol's announcements were over the weekend: WOW The prospect of a RTR 08 in O for less than £200 has me salivating already - I hope for the sake of the hobby that Dapol pulls it off well, having got so many people's hopes up! And to think that there are still more surprises to come in the catalogue!

Stu from EGDL
Hi Bob; Yes, as 27008 had been announced as a running number for the forthcoming release, it stirred some memories. As a result, I was in a discussion with Dave about the period when 27007 &27008 ran with centre windows plated over (a period of roughly 2-3 years between 80-82ish IIRC). It was a sufficiently significant timescale for it to be a factor in the later lives of the class.... http://www.rmweb.co....ass-26-and-27/# (scroll down the page for example pics) As for cab doors, these are/were interchangeable with a Class 26 so happened occasionally, but was usually short lived, so I'm not factoring in that particular variance for historical accuracy of the forthcoming model. Now about sliding vs droplight cab windows, electrification flash placement, white headcodes, Derby Works cabside numbers, large/normal bodyside numbers, cab end numbers (27001 in is final days) Stags,Castles or Westies (of various sizes) and 27056 with its white stripe, then the 27/2s with ETH connections!!! Nah...quite a boring class in BR Blue really.. Later; STU from EGDL

RMweb Gold bcnPete Posted March 26, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2012 All this talk of 27's...but until someone shows me a photo of one at Kyle of Lochalsh (still yet to find one) I will just have to direct my money towards a 7mm 08... RMweb Premium brushman47544 Posted March 26, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 26, 2012 I gather Gaugemaster are commissioning two Pullman 73101's (Brighton Evening Argus and The Royal Alex) and kernow have nabbed the Network Rail yellow option! Dutch, NSE, Gat-Ex, County of West Sussex Intercity original, all would find a home here. Just about to send a loco around to my depot to pick up all my Lima and Limby 73's and escort them to the condemmed siding!!! A new Class 73 is excellent news - a good choice Dave. Lots of interesting liveries in the first batch then. but why no early BR liveries at all in the first batch? At least my wallet will be pleased to wait for an early BR blue with SYP and white/cream(?) roof..

Thinking roughly twice the linear size should equal twice the price? But it is three times the surface area, and the larger scale means more detail parts as separate pieces rather than moulded on; and on a volumetric materials content 'like for like' basis the ratio is 5.3 : 1 between 7mm and 4mm. Stir in the typically smaller market, the labour content being greater because a greater number of piece parts have to be designed, tooled, manufactured and fitted and it all starts to add up. Dapol are pricing this one keenly to get the sales volume. Whether this price scale will work on larger and intrinsically more expensive models will be interesting. ... the 08 alone truly deserves to have the 2012 model & manufacturer of the year awards well & truly wrapped up within days of the 2011 results being announced. This must be one of the funniest 'enthusaism overboard' comments ever on RMweb. Isn't there the slightly awkward requirement that the model actually go on sale during 2012 to become a MOTY candidate? For all DapolDave's (and the team he represents) terrific work rate, there was a fair old pipeline of existing product announcements to work through before these announcements. I live in happy expectation of the flood of s/h OO

I live in happy expectation of the flood of s/h OO Hi chaps, Please note, we are not pricing the O gauge 08 keenly to increase sales volume. O gauge really shouldnt be expensive as it is. We have priced up 4-6-0 loco's and the Western to not exceed £350.00 retail (should we progress with them). So our O gauge 08 is priced to what we are happy making as a standard profit margin, not as a loss leader, gaugntlet throw down etc. Enjoy the new era cheers Dave
