gridwatcher
Just to prove we are still 'hard at it' The 3 scenic sections are now down in Newcastle. As you can see the far right pair are ballasted and ground work is well on. The third: Grain silo and Cement offload point (the bare wood yard) will be ballasted shortly. All the main boards are wired, motored and working. The fiddle remains in Scotland and is being laid/wired this week? To add to the fleet Andrew has just ordered a Norbrass original build Alco 1500 ..........'which is nice" Here we are Me Jim and Malcolm getting the crate ready for loading onto the van. Andrew is behind the camera/iPhone/iPad?
gridwatcher
Just to illustrate we are further along than it may look......
Guest B Exam
Looking good Simon. Just need a couple of Roco Corail aircons, a BG converted to a genny van and then you could drag the layout into the 21st century...

gridwatcher
Growing now...! The Grain silos are expanding into a monster site! Here are some images to give scale of structures, wagons look dwarfed. At last a layout where a silo doesn't look like 2 wagons worth!!?? Cement loading is open backed building in foreground. Looks like we will be able to see into this one from the front of the layout??
Guest B Exam
Looks a cracker Simon. Look forward to seeing it in the flesh. I can see why the Lisboa contingent declined scratchbuilding a 'Nasty Asti'... Nightmare so far. Those bodyside grilles are taking some doing. Thank gawd for plastacine to hold things together while the glue cures!
gridwatcher
Keep up the good work Mr W! Room in it for a sound chip?? I hope so!??
gridwatcher
More inspiration from Andrew and Spam. Sta Eulalia near Badajoz on the Spanish border is site of giant grain store and monster MLW move, like the left hand end of our plan see above (Andrew's images). Spam's image of Pocinho is more like the right hand end of the layout we are building Edited October 7, 2014 by gridwatcher
gridwatcher
London buses!! RT Trains and Norbrass have announced the non aircon Stainless Sorefames within days of each other. Guess would be the plastic ones will be £80 each? Maybe? The brass ones? £400 EACH! So we are having???? Yeah brass. You guessed . https://www.facebook.com/pages/NORBRASS/108649094750 Edited October 9, 2014 by gridwatcher
gridwatcher
"Malcolm's erection just got bigger" Or alternatively, our builder of large structures (Mr M Donnelly) has taken the style of the grain silos mentioned elsewhere and is well on with the second part.

gridwatcher
The Sorefames are coming a snip at €400 each so we ordered 4.....! Help! Here are a few views of Moose and Sorefame action!
gridwatcher
Another update as pictures come in from Malcolm of the cereal silos. The loader in the middle is a temporary structure for style and size. They look bloody huge. But we are very happy!

Nice set of photos there Simon. Looks like you've had a wee drop of the local vinho judging by how they all lean to the left... As for the silos, a work of art by Mr D senior! gridwatcher
Fiddle yard nearly there now..... and a sexy diode matrix to make it one push! The main layout will be controlled from the Handsets via DCC!
gridwatcher
More progress on the silos and a debate. Thinking of shortening the grain road and bringing the second (round) set of silos into play as Cement and use second road from back as loading road for that? Ballasting and straightening of front road done and the concrete pad for Bagged cement loading is in place at the front. What do we think out there?? gridwatcher
More images of 'thought process' we are allowing up to 3 grain bogies onto back road grain loader at a time. The centre roads will be powered cement in and bagged cement in. Aggregate at the front. Logs and stuff at the other end. gridwatcher
Expect finished structures to appear soon!! The sizing issue seems to be sorted with these two final 'roughs' in low res images. Hopefully a quiet Christmas will see Malcolm progress the corrugated plastic along a little??
Guest B Exam
Now MD is back off his reconnaissance mission, things will hopefully progress over Xmas as you say. The Asti is progressing very slowly at the mo, its finding time on these long dark nights would you believe. Anyway, it needs to be done by April 17th, so it can be delivered to the Lisboa paint shop for completion. Hopefully there will be room inside for that sound chip you are hankering after. Those bodyside grilles are a nightmare to construct! Anybody any ideas to aid construction out of plasticard/plastic strip....
