monkeysarefun
I spent the day down Jervis Bay, about two hours south of Sydney. A largish Stingray was hanging out around the jetty. No ... not that one , I'm scared of snakes !! My comment was in jest but I do get a 'prime-evil' sense of fear when I see even an image like that; even when I knew that it was there I had to go back and sneak a peak .... just to scare myself again !! LoL Great photos ... all of them. Cheers, Ian. 1 1

LoL I know what you mean, but there was a glass panel between me and the Tiger snake, so that's about as close as I've ever voluntarily got. I've come across my fair share of snakes in the backyard or while out wandering - I understand why they call the response to danger "Fight or FLIGHT" because I've launched myself into space very impressively at those times. 1 2

At a park in Queensland, there was a path down into a valley to view a waterfall. At the top of the path, there was a notice board, giving instructions on what to do if encountering a snake on the path. The recommendation was to carefully step round the snake. It advised not to step directly over the snake. The option of turning round and running away screaming was not listed.

I work in the Blue Mountains and until my knee gave out I used to run along the bush tracks at lunchtimes. Twice I spotted a snake right where my foot was about to land and both times I somehow managed while in mid-air to relocate myself 3 feet further on, all without touching the ground in order to do it. I still have no idea how I managed it. Similarly my arachnaphobic son was in my car one night when a Huntsman spider appeared on the windscreen in front of him. He managed to undo his seat belt and somehow perform some kind of manoeuvre - possibly a backflip - into the rear seat, all in one smooth split-second movement despite being close to 6 feet tall at the time. All I was aware of was that one second he was beside me, the next he had just disappeared while the same time the car started revving like crazy because he'd knocked the transmission into neutral on his way through.. monkeysarefun
I don't know much about deer other than they are a feral pest here, introduced in the 1880's or so as game animals. I spotted something in the scrub behind the paddock to the back of here earlier and the zoom lens showed it to ba a fallow deer, and as I took a pic, its mate appeared. I waited for them to move away from the inconvenient powerlines but they refused unfortunately.
