Jack00
Haha! I 'ave nightmares about those fences... Thanks for the honest feedback though! I will re-consider the fences. And hand make some GWR line-side fences. Jack.
Jack00
If I can dodge the rain clouds at some point (fingers crossed) I will take some pictures of line-side fences around sidings such as Truro, Falmouth docks. If my memory is correct then the fences are squared pattern with concrete posts around 6 or 7 ft tall. (Truro around 5ft) Then off to the craft shop Jack. Jack00
today, i made a few changes to Burnthouse Lane. Now with added Branchline terminus station, big enough for a class 50 and 3 coaches, or 4 car DMU. A point diverts from the line through the old goods yard and into the station section where milk freight wagon are often being shunted. this shy's away from the roundy roundy aspect, but i have been sucked into the world of DCC. yes thats right...i will be purchasing DCC equipment and chipping a few loco's. not all are DCC ready though. Hornby's edition of the 08 sound chipped will be the first on my list...BR green. i have a few pictures, but the layout looks very scruffy during the reconstruction process so bare with me lol. i need to get everything smooth and built properly. such as platforms and backboards. Then i can start on the DCC side of things. scary stuff. Jack.
Jack00
I can just imagine a class 50 sat in the platform ticking away to its self while the DMU shuttles out of the station, Then an 08 shunting the milk wagons into the platform, ready for the 50 to couple up and thrash out of the station on the up line. I think i just inspired myself again... Jack.
Jack00
Constructing the platforms with peco concrete platform sides and a brick card top layer for the platform itself. Then dressed with Hornby bus shelters with added adverts and timetables. Then a small ticket/reception office. Then it will be DCC time Jack.

Jack00
Thanks Shane. Progress Is a bit slow but aslong as I get it something like, and DCC then I'll be happy. Jack.
Jack00
A little progress but will upload tomorrow. Will do some more tomorrow aswel, station and siding work. Jack.
Jack00
Ok...so after a few false starts on the buidling of the layout, got confused with the trackplan and bitten off more than i could chew. i have taken a step back and made everything simple again, what im good at best. small, simple layouts. less is more and all that malarky. 3ft baseboard. no backscene which will look better against the white walls of the railway room. a tunnel mouth entrance and an XS terminus platform, enough to hold a 2car DMU at a squeeze. a point which is at the tunnel mouth which has a siding running along side the platform, to hold loco's / wagons. this allows shunting movements, with the DCC added next week aswel, a DMU can shuttle in and out of the station, while another loco is shunting, or ideling away to itself. short rake of milk tanks plus brake-van or box vans wating for the next duty sitting in the siding. i'll upload the pics in just a minute. Jack00
Right, been in the shed most of the evening. hammering it down with rain out there.... ballested most of the track, stuck on the backboards, cluttered the buffer stops, and oil stained the track with permenant marker. added flowers, and tall grass. Thanks for looking, comments and feedback always welcome. Jack.
Jack00
Doing some more 'gardening' adding more shrubs and grass to the layout. Concentrating more on the left side before venturing onto the right, Think I nite need more glue... Thursday I'm straight down the model shop at 9.00am like a raging bull, so excited about DCC sound loco. But so many to choose from...... Jack. Jack00
Hours passed by in the shed today... time for a quick update then off to work...! filled in the gaps with bushes and gorse, with added purple flowers. Then chopped up sleepers and stuck them down on the far right side of the layout along with some rusty rail. then finished off the ballesting around the point and station area. all it needs now is static grass in the gaps between the track and shrubs. and possibly more flowers and rusty junk... Then some life...sulzer or EE thrash. Jack.
Jack00
Just looked at prices for DCC sound 25's not bad at all. And the 37 with sound isn't bad either. Bachmann editions. Jack.
Jack00
Here's some a few pictures that a shot at Par and Burngullow a few months ago that inspired the "gardening" side of the layout, thick gorse bushes with foxgloves and other purple plants that pop out of Cornish wild bushes. next task is to make green stalks, possibly from very thin wire and add purple buds, then place around the buffer stops and grounded van area. also the same but in red to add variety and more depth. then short to medium static tufts of grass around any bold patches or area's that may need a little lift. Also, around the buffers and station entrance i will place some very small peices of broken slate for a rubble effect around the ballest and line side. Thanks for looking... Jack. Jack00
the peco short radius point on the layout has not been wired up to a motor yet, so it just gets thrown over by hand, like it would in real life lol, but when i plug the DCC controller in a guess the section will still be live, just the same as DC principles? the point will then act as an isolator for the station section and the siding. Very excited about DCC sound on Burnthouse Lane. right...as mentioned above, must get cracking with the scenics. Jack...
Jack00
today i've added some tall grass in various places, rather alot added as alot of gaps needed filling, but personally i think it works well with the contrast of thick gorse and the tall thin grass. Also added some milk cherns in the siding area, they go nicely with the milk themed siding of the late 70's. Now i'm litrelly counting the hours and minutes until 9.00am. DCC controller and sound class xx/x most likely Bachmann 37 or Bachmann 25 in BR blue. very excited about having a fire breathing model, thrashing out of Burnthouse Lane milk siding. Then on the "must have" list is DCC DMU. Thanks for having a look... feedback always welcome. Jack.
treggyman
Hi Jack Certainly coming on in leaps & bounds..... I'll be interested to see how you get on with DCC.....I've not taken the plunge as I've too much stock.... The thought of sound loco's is tempting though Keep up the good work Cheers Bill
Jack00
Hi Bill. Thanks yeah coming along now, I'm pleased with the result of it all. DCC is all new to me so will have to either make it up as I go along like, or just keep trying until I'm happy with it. The thing that put me off the most going digital is like you said, having all that stock, I think all I can do is build I decent collection of DCC and then decide what to do with my DC stock. Either flog or modify. I just can't wait for some sound. I downloaded a track on my iPhone of native summer birds which I'll record a video of Burnthouse Lane on the camera with background noise of a bird chirping. Then a roar from a dirty diesel shunting in the siding. Jack.
Jack00
Got my dynamis controller, works a treat. But my DCC sound 37 is a pain. Everything works fine until the sound stopped working. Possibly the speaker has blown? Taking it back tomorrow swap for another one or the class 25 Was really annoyed lol, spent almost £250 for it not to work!! Jack. ess1uk
Ouch! That's a lot of dosh for it not to work
Jack00
ess1uk, that is alot of money, but just swapped the 37 with a 25 and the staff in the shop were very helpful. im so pleased with the Rat. i'll attatch a clip of the 25 start-up in the siding... Jack00
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU-PSXj5bbQ&feature=youtu.be that just a taster, but i will get some decent clips in the sunshine, and shunting movements (once im used to the control ) Jack. Jack00
New platform shelter and a few waiting passengers. pile of crates and a thundering class 25 echo's the yard. very pleased with the DCC sound move i made, it gives the layout a whole new dimension, and draws attention away from the fact its such a small layout wih limited possibilities or movements. just need to finalise a few bits such as darkening the tunnel mouth, completing the back of the platform area, and the yard ground cover, possibly sand or fine gravel. Jack.
Jack00
Burnthouse Lane during the 70's. think i prefer the 70's era now. looking into getting a 105 DMU. and sound class 08 BR green...gone a bit old school!! Jack.
