Looking at the stops for the 'Heart of Midlothian'

Does anyone know if Alnmouth and Dunbar were regular stops for other ECML expresses or just this one?

Also wondered if there was a particular reason for them - e.g. regular traffic for nearby barracks etc.

Time for a last minute chat at Glasgow Central...

attachicon.gifBR ScR 406 Glasgow Central.jpg

Assuming there's another 50 just off camera and 13-14 coaches, that's something I would love to have witnessed pulling away from Central, across the bridge and into the distance.

Assuming the power would really opened up around Polmadie, I bet you could hear it from the platforms

That's an interesting group - I'm fairly sure that the one on the extreme left is Stanley Raymond - who was brought in to demolish the last vestiges of the GWR on the Western and carry out a major knife act; some of his 'success' was rather transient and he was probably the most widely hated GM the Western Region ever had.

Next to him, second left, is GAV ('Paddy') Phillips who I think might have been Chief Passenger Manager at the time that picture was taken although the overall group suggests it was probably after he became Divisional Manager of the London Division - I last met him and had a chat with him (a decade after he'd retired) on the station platform at Taunton, back in 1978.  I don't know the one between Paddy Phillips and Beeching but I wonder if he was the Station Master at Paddington at that time?

That's an interesting group -

The associated byline that accompanies this photograph with the old press release reads:

"Dr Richard Beeching (right) Chairman of the British Railways Board and Mr S. E. Raymond (from left), Mr G.A.V Phillips and Mr P. Peyman examining the newly painted arch of Paddington Station's Brunel roof in 1963".

There's two traditional railway jobs which have fallen victim to modern technology... that of Pantograph Supporter and Pantograph Supporter's Mate.

Were people shorter or tube trains bigger back then?
