You would be amazed by the amount of interest in 75s boiler being tested, as for the headshunt we do not have the room, it then smokes out the kippers (sleeping coaches) and is on more of a gradient. The expression smoking out is a bit strong, you should have seen Gordon being lit up, now that was smoking out, especially on the front yard road where it never wanted to steam.

Perhaps this is best left and we just move on.

Gala is coming, we are all looking forward to it, getting an evening turn on Saturday night will be interesting so if your around say hello.

The station looked lovely ( as it always seems, but especially so) in the late afternoon sunshine....

Hi.....

It's been a bit damp on the SVR for Thursday Autumn Gala 'taster day'....the light conditions were not conducive for good photography with my small 'digi' camera, but managed to capture these videos to share with you......(anyone know how to turn the final one around to portrait view)......

If you are visiting us have a great time...with these beautiful visiting loco's it'll be superb.....!

The weather was very busy at the SVR Autumn Gala today...  "Sunshine and showers" doesn't do it justice, somehow!

I counted thirty photographers waiting by the western end of the tunnel between Kidderminster and Bewdley. (Does that tunnel have a name?)

Lots and lots of folk on the trains. I dread to think how crowded it will be at the weekend proper. Lots of money for the SVR, though, which is excellent.

Just back from an overnighter with very mixed weather. Problems started lunch time Saturday when something happened causing a delay of around 40 minutes. Heard various stories from a boulder on the line, something striking a buffet car and staff problems. But anyway it meant that by the time the night service started it was around an hour down. 7802 and 43106 then excelled and were back on time for the Sunday morning. 7802 sounded superb running up the valley and I heard someone saying that on one run it made up 16 minutes between Highley and Bridgnorth on what is scheduled (won't quote the speed, but it wasn't 25mph!).

Thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the weather. Probably helped by some excellent ales.....

Hi all, yes, another excellent SVR gala. Many thanks to all at the railway for their unstinting dedication and hard work - very much appreciated.
Spent Friday and Saturday both traveling and linesiding and once again, the overnight trains have a unique and special atmosphere. A few youngsters do use the trains as 'moving parties' but seemed to be pretty much burnt out by about 0100!
Not sure what the chap wearing a Devon flag made of Bewdley at 0330 on Saturday morning! My excuse was a plan to phot the Brit and the Duchess 'on shed' - rather thwarted by a rake of coaches stabled in P3! No problem as I then boarded the next northbound train planning to get off at Highley to see the local train moves; however, I fell asleep and woke up at Bridgnorth completely oblivious to the Arley, Highley and HL stops!
Regarding the late running on Saturday, yes an window was accidentally (?) broken on the GW set on a northbound working and there was about a 20 minute delay as the platform staff made a temporarily repair so the carriage could remain in service. I don't think there was any chance of regaining time later and it looks like further slippage ensured. Such is life I guess and very unfortunate for passengers using public transport to get to/from the railway.
The trains on both days seemed well filled (including the overnights!) and Saturday seemed very busy indeed despite the weather noting the forecast turned out to be rather inaccurate!
In summary; an excellent event with all locos performing well (noting that I believe there were 3 centenarians in use!) and folks I spoke to seemed to be enjoying their time at the railway. Again thanks to all involved, much appreciated.

Anyone who wants to ride on the SVR behind 70000 - 'Britannia' - can do so this weekend....as she's on the service trains......

Copied from the SVR web site....

Britannia on trains this Weekend

You don't need to book in advance - just buy your tickets when you arrive at the railway.   And don't worry, if it's cold, the trains have all got steam heating...

Details of all the locos in use, and which trains they are on, are in the link below.

Hi.....

Someone sent me this image, which apparently appeared on the Times Online website on Monday / Tuesday ...(Quite in what context I am unsure)...a fine 'atmospheric' image....

The Times often feature photos of steam trains. In fact one time last year when I was working on the buffet behind 7714 I returned to the buffet car from the front of the train at Northwood, only to find a photo of the train crossing Victoria Bridge appeared in The Times the following day!

Other railways sometimes featured include the East Lancs and North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Lovely picture, but the lighting is far too bright. Reminds me of a model railway with the lighting.

I can assure you Stewart...it is never that bright under normal lamplight!

Evening all....!

No passenger services today...but we did see Class 33 / 33108 passing through the station with the gully cleaning equipment and then later shunting an LMS guards van into No.2 siding so a bit of 'action' at Arley to keep us amused......

Don't worry about the poor souls in the picnic area they are not passengers who've missed their connection......there're just props for the coming halloween evening event!

Regards always...

My son and I were on the SVR on Sunday. An absolutely stunning day weather wise - we left mid afternoon before it clouded over. The valley looked absolutely splendid! We had a nice chat to the fireman on the footplate experience too. Nothing looks better balanced than a 14xx plus autocoach.
