The local rag has a photo taken of filming 'Dunkirk' at Swanage station, showing a squaddie leaning out of ---- Guess what ? --- the drop-light of a BR Std. Mk.1 coach, hauled by what looks to be a BR Std. Class 4 2-6-4t. The only right looking thing about it was the the colour / color? of the coach !

Our standard tank, 80104, was withdrawn on the 7th of May, well before the mob moved in, for a bottom end overhaul. Though, I have no idea if it's actually left the line yet, so it could have been there for cosmetic purposes. When I popped down on the 26th of July, when they were filming at Harmans Cross, all the steam locos currently on the line were stabled in sidings at Swanage (31806 and 30053 in the West Sidings, 34070 and 30120 on the turntable) bar 80104.

Did the Corfe - River Frome section that morning on the train, and the only locos I couldn't account the whereabouts of was 80104, and our resident Class 08 D3591 - which is even worse. I know the coach formation was a consist of one of our Bulleid coaches, and a Mk1 - both in BR Green (though the MK1 has faded a bit) which I believe was unaltered for the filming.

There always seems to be this general consensus with filming companies, that 'if it's steam, it'll do'. Shame really, when they're willing to spend so much to make the rest of the film look 'right'. I appreciate that most prototypical stock of the day is hard to come-by now, but it would be nice to see some effort made to at least be as accurate as possible.

Meanwhile, this is what they did to the Signalbox (note the Blue 33/2):

There a bit of Irony in that it happened outside of Great Falls Eyecare.

The Kids seem to be having a great time when the Merc driver tries to lay a little rubber down on the bonnet of the 458.

 Hi Mark.

Still looking for a link to the platform 1, eastward, shot, but here's a link to the westward shot platform scenes. This time, the coach is, again, a Mk.1, top 'n' tailed by an 08 and a 33.

That was the two-coach consist with the Bulleid and the Mk1 - the Bulleid being behind the 33.

Platform 1 is our Bay platform, while Platform 2 is our main terminus with the run-around loop.

Matt

Sorry but I don't get out much.

What kind of animal is that on the spit?

Do they taste good?

Can you buy them pre-packed at the local Co-op?

Are they suitable for vegetarians?

Do they squeal when you poke a one up the bum like that?

So many questions, so little time for cooking.

Its Census night in Oz and they want as many of us as possible to do so on line.

Guess what, the website crashed & won't be up until the morning.

There was already a fuss about keeping names & addresses for 4 years, with lots of people not going to. Now many got partially through, before it crashed, so many coming out with comments like, 'I kept my side of the bargain, too bad about yours'.

I'd like to see how they're going to fine people for not doing so!

Me, I was never going to bother today & was going to do so later in the week.

I certainly sympathize with your posting, and feel that films of such events should better represent them than the trailer seems to. However, these are actors, and I feel it might be worth mentioning the apocryphal story of Sir Larry Olivier when working with Dustin Hoffman, when he (Larry) is said to have said 'why don't you try acting, dear boy?' when referring to Hoffman's method technique.

It is up to film-makers to do their job properly, which includes doing research and taking that research into account when the various departments sort  out their sets, make-up, costumes, etc, etc. The actors are ultimately just hires, especially in crowd scenes, and have no control other than quitting when told to do something that they might not support personally. So, if anyone is to blame for clean shaven faces, shiny hats, etc, it's the producer(s), then the director(s), then the department heads. Actors should only get flak when they actually have some control, and that's really only the a-list cast members.

You are entirely correct, so the directors should send those actors on a 30 mile route march....

Sadly with few Directors or Actors having military experience these days it's only going to get worse, .

It's not just army scenes they got wrong.

I watched a new version of Colditz a couple of months ago they had the British Actors saying they were going to a TRAIN station... it's a RAILWAY STATION!!!
