Red Baron
Quick review as I couldnt find a thread for them. TM is a large model shop in the bottom of Oyston Mill, Strand Road Preston. +ives:- Plenty of Bach/Horn/Hel/Vi stock Reasonable prices Loads of kits Load of scenics Decent 2nd hand section Parking -ives:- Not quite as cheap as Hattons A bit light on DCC advice... but being picky here. Only open sundays in the run up to christmas not all year round Used them alot - and they do offer 10% off for BAe employees (im not but my father is). http://www.transportmodels.co.uk/about.php
RMweb Premium finelines Posted December 29, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 29, 2009 Despite having to declare an interest because Mark and Liz, the partners in Transport Models, have been huge supporters in my efforts, I feel the praise above is a little bit faint. I would stick my neck out and say you would have difficulty finding a better stocked model shop in the North West and possibly the country. In a world where a lot of our modelling needs have to be bought by mail order it is surprising how many little bits and pieces they have in stock or can get at very short notice. Or, it would be surprising if Mark were not a second generation modeller. Those of you old enough to have attended exhibitions in the 70??™s and early 80??™s in the North West will remember the star of many shows was the ???Three Way Lines??? and Mark??™s dad was one of the three owners. They have also built up a good reputation in mail order, with both a website and an eBay shop sending things all over the world. Mark tells me that they will be open on Sundays up until Easter after which it will be reviewed, but it is probably worth checking before travelling far. Roger Amusingly I was in transport models when I read your post! I was in no way wishing to say they were anything other than a great model shop, having spent probably 90% of my budget in there over the last 12 months. Sorry if you have taken my words in vain. I wholeheartedly recommend Transport Models.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted January 16, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2010 Following the positive comments, I placed an order yesterday afternoon. Said order has arrived in Cornwall today. Brilliant service! And reasonable p& p too. Stu
Guest eddie reffin
I have to say that Transport Models are one of the best I have had the pleasure of dealing with. Due to the Royal Mail managing to lose a parcel, Liz and Co were extremely helpfull and professional in the way they handled the matter. The replacement arrived today exactly as promised. I have bought quite a few items from them over the past 18months and there service is without fail, excellent. Many Thanks to them- No connection other than as a very satisfied customer Eddie
Jenny Emily
I've used them from time to time as they're walking distance from a friends' house in Preston. They always carry a very good range, including a lot of the useful bits and pieces that are sadly missing from the stock of a lot of other shops. I have used them mail order too, and they have always been very prompt and don't charge extortionate postage rates. I have never had any issues with them and have been an infrequent customer over a few years.
Jim Martin
I've been to the shop a few times, when work has taken me to Preston (and even gone up there specially, once or twice). While not as cheap as Hattons for those things that Hattons sell, TM is a much more broadly-based model shop and carries a lot more by way of scenic items, materials etc. I've picked up a few second-hand bargains there, too. Definitely worth considering, IMHO. Jim
Xerces Fobe2
Used them alot - and they do offer 10% off for BAe employees (im not but my father is). http://www.transport...co.uk/about.php I am now a former BAE Systems employee however on my visits to Preston I have been into this shop a number of times and there are bargains to be had, and the service is very good. Re discount for BAE Systems employees there are some limitations such as no discount on secondhand items if I recall correctly however you do get a discount on new locos Xerces Fobe

Sweeps
I notice that Oyston Mill where This shop is located is proposed to be turned into flats, there's been a few recent articles in the local rag about the affect on the businesses located in the building. Anyone know more?
Jack374
I can only add to the positive feedback the shop has received. It is my local model shop and the prices are never too far off items in said Liverpool retailer; I bought a loco the other day that was actually a couple of quid cheaper and I always feel more welcomed here too. As has been said they stock a huge range of kits and scenic items, and they also have a very large room filled with Airfix kits. They always have recently released models and some models which are hard to find if they have just gone out of production. Also they offer a fairly extensive second hand range, and I too have found a few excellent bargains. All in all an outstanding shop with competitive prices, a very broad range of both RTR and kits/scenics, but above all excellent and friendly service. Definitely worth a visit if you are around. Thanks, Jack.
Widnes Model Centre
We visited Liz and Mark yesterday having had many conversations on all things modelling. I have to say what a great shop. Is there a bigger shop in the country? Liz the owner is amazing and clearly enjoys her work. Very warm welcome and a great selection of everything. Highly recommended if not buying from our shop A lot of modellers believe that model railway shops are "a man's world", these two ladies may beg to differ. We wish them all the success and hope to return soon. Pictured Liz at TMP and Gill from WMC.
