I'm getting bored of saying "brilliant, superb, wonderful", but what else is there?

Ah, I know...

C'est Magnifique

Looks great.  Al.

Couldn't have put it better myself.  Although I'm not getting bored!

Dave.

Are you getting "Loyalties " from one of the Cuppa suppliers  ....

Definitely going to enjoy tracking through your thread from the start over a cup of tea at some point tomorrow.

there have been so many people visiting here that have slopped off for a remedial Cuppa, having seen your delightful work, that the possibility of a connection cannot be entirely be ruled out    ....

PS.  How much do they pay  .......   :mail:

Hi Stu, thanks for pointing that out, hopefully it won't be difficult to correct :butcher: all the best adrian's

To be honest, it's a classic sign writing mistake (you see it quite a lot on builders' signs, I think). Though of course your layout is set in the days of Reading, 'Riting and 'Rithmetic, so even signwriters knew how to spell proper...

The sign company has been called back in and have promised me that it will all be put right by Tuesday, and that the signwriter has had a right telling off! A Toff wearing a top hat and a city gent have been called in to supervise the removal of the offending '.

Hercule Poirot

The Case Of

The Missing Earrings

It was a dark and stormy night when the earrings went missing. Under cover of darkness and the noise from the raging storm the thief struck, and made off with some of Mrs W & B Stations valuable earrings, these were later discovered in a nearby garage, minus there backs, but fortunately the priceless gems had been left still in there mounts. When closely questioned by Poirot, Mr W & B Station broke down and confessed that he was the mastermind behind the theft and that it would not happen again, and could he go out and play.

Earring backs, hot melt glue, and some discs cut with a hole punch from a metal foil food container, these are the pieces used to make the globe. The globe was made by sqeezing out some hot melt glue to form a ball, the earring backs were cut in half to reduce the height, and the foil discs made the reflector, thanks for following this build Adrian.

PS: all that's left is the Brasted Totem signs and a bit of weathering.

Brilliant!

With such skills, it still surprises me that you didn't tackle proper SER fencing. :O

Hi Ron, thank you, the fencing is something that's a niggle in the back of my mind, I don't want to buy it, but I am not sure that I could make it to a level that I would be happy with. It's something I might have a dabble with once the main work is finished and I can give it some attention. all the best must get back to my apostrophe class Adrian. :scratchhead:

Mr Apostrophe, the new coal merchant at Brasted Station has been moaning about the lack of somwhere to store his Nutty Slack. So armed with a fresh supply of coffee stirrers I have set about making some coal drops for him. Some pictures of today's progress.

Great modelling with the paper clip and signs. Great shots to match the great work...

Have I used the word great enough yet...?

Nestor

It was the use of paper clips and or the shape of your coffee stirrers that gave me the thought, though both are almost certainly over-scale. Now with my lack of practical skills I'm probably the last person to talk but a jig and the use of thin wire or suitable paper clips seems to offer possibilities. I hate to put you to even more effort but it's just that fencing is such a characteristic of company origin. You can still tell which stations on the Brighton Main Line were SER-owned, except where Network Rail has tried to turn then into HMP Slade. The LSWR and the Midland had very recognisable fencing too.

According to the closure documents in 1960 the line's coal merchants were:

Brasted - Mr Bowser - though he may have traded under a different name

That was the one, yes they traded under the name Bowser. They had a shop opposite the Co Op in Westerham High St.

A great use for coffee stirrers.

Hi Adrian, are you still allowed in your favourite hot beverage establishment or do you have to stir your coffee with a stirrer on the end of a length of chain? :)

Hi all, I am now wondering what I can make with a teaspoon with a piece of chain attached to it, as I can't find any coffee stirrers within a 10 mile radius, they all seem to have vanished!!!

Some more work on the coal drops today, it's now ready to be put in place and filled with coal tomorrow, just off for a coffee now :mosking:

They have worked out who's walking off with all their stirrers and hidden them!!

I will keep an eye out for some if you still need a few to finish the staithes off.

Adrian, what have you used to colour the coal staithes with?

It looks really effective.

Hi Al, get me some coffee stirrers and I will tell you the colour.

It's a mix of Railmatch dark rust 405 and Revell nato green 46 matt and a load of white spirit. all the best Adrian

........................    you could still have Coffee and use one of the remaining few stirrers, or even one of your teaspoons, since you are at home making things  ......    :nono:

The coal has been delivered and unloaded into the coal drops, target signs for the lamposts on the platform have been fitted (printed on the computer,  stuck to thin card, and cut out with a scalpel). A new coal merchants sign without the apostrophe has been fixed back in place, and two pictures of what it was all like back in November, just so you can see what's happened since then. Next item to make is the grounded van body in the goods yard.
