My detailing/repainting projects

Recommended Posts

I just love the 40's in post #876. Just enough weathering there. Apart from the occasional oil-splattered 40, I'm sure my corporate blue glasses are not fooling my memory when I say I remember them like this rather than the less-than-subtle weathering often applied on models. Cripes, I'm talking about diesels, but if it's got to be a diesel give me an EE Type 4 anyday!

Cheers. Yes, That's as I pretty much remember them too. Other than a little bit of bodyside brake dust, characteristic coolant stains on the roof from the radiator grille, and a bit of gunmetal on the bogie steps still to be added, I'm happy with them  :declare:

Good evening.

Whilst fiddling with the pickups on a couple of the slightly troublesome Bachmann 40's, I decided to do one of my old favourites, 135. Until that is, I realised it had had it's water tanks removed, along with quite a few other split headers. As I had a loco in bits, I thought I would investigate a bit further.

On completely disassembling the chassis, I was happy to discover that the tanks were easily removed by a unding a couple of retaining screws. The only other challenge was working out where the wires from the now removed in water tank switches would need to go. A bit of headscratching and fiddling about, resulted in this.

As you can see I have done it in it's 97 departmental guise, but I am so pleased with the way it has turned out, I think I will do the 'normal' in service 135 as well.

With BRCW type twos I tend to inset the bogie springs too, to give them a more prototypical appearance. Like the ones you've done here.

Not the best of photos.

A trio of 60's, one Large logo blue, one Railfreight red stripe, and one the usual triple grey.

This started life as a Bachmann red stripe, stripe has been removed, and the sides and cabs repainted in preparation to do a run down Tinsley namer.

Love the 97, (I like the 1-co-co-1's overall) Lee

One question, what paint/ colour did you use on her roof, that would be PERFECT for my 37...

Sean

Phoenix Precison P311 - Network Rail Roof grey isn't a bad starting point.........

Cheers,

Mick
