Along with Departmental liveried 31461

11210619693_38b77cd4ff_b.jpg

Another 60 lands on the bench...this time a repaint after a customers attempt at final varnishing went wrong. How ironic is that, remember my class 56?

Nice pair! In for weathering.....

I know one chap that will be happy to see these

I started making some new coach end doors for Lab coach 12.

Another little job I have been meaning to try for absolutely ages, is having a go at fitting the 'car' headlamps on the nose ends of Scottish 37's. I fancied improving the weathering on one of my 1st attempts, plain blue 37049, and decided to renumber it as well. so, 1 small fiddly led, a cut in half wheel bearing, and some fiddly soldering work, and I now have a headlight  :-getin

11210501454_18575df0ee_b.jpg

A nice pair of etched snowploughs have been added, and I need to pipe up the bufferbeam. She is going to be renumbered to this beast.....

37033, lovely dirty plain blue, but with an interesting variation of large logo numbers, and Highland Stags , yummy!

bulk haa weathering!

11240837004_d115b6d737_b.jpg

Just a light toning down on these as well, they never seemed to get very scruffy in service.

The class 6o. I haven't repainted many of them, and thought this would be really easy to mask, all straight lines and a couple of colours. I couldn't have been more wrong! All of this masking is just for the black window surrounds, cab doors, headlights, and bodyside grilles.

Hi Lee

Take my hat off to you with some of these brilliant resprays.  Would like a bit of advice with regard the Hornby Class 56 handrail removal for re-spraying please.

Do you remove and then re-insert or do you replace?  I have struggled removing the handrails in one piece without either breaking them or deforming them!!

Similar problem with the Hornby class 60.

Any assistance would be most gratefully received

best regards

John

Masking has been the name of the game for oh, a good half a day  :-crazy

One of my pet hates is black window surrounds, the masking takes an age. Wish someone would bring some pre made etches out.

The coal sector 60 (ex EWS), has just had the windows, grilles, and headlight surrounds blackened.

Looks the business.

Transfers and black headcodes added to this beast.

The Freightliner crane has had the boom arm painted yellow, and some transfers have been added.

That 60 is looking great. Out of interest again and as a slight tangent from your great work, Im sure the class 60s actually have exec bodyside grilles not black. I know Hornby does theirs black but Im almost 99% sure that they were actually painted exec dark grey. Grilles are difficult to pin down especially ones as open as the 60s. Shadow from inside makes em look darker and also dirt on thrm can make em lighter or darker depending. Its all a bit subjective really. Im just sure that my memory from the time isnt that bad and Im convinced that when I stood next to the spanking new ones they were grey in contrast to the black doors. Exec grey was standard for triple grey livery grilles (there was the odd loco from various classes with black though I know but grey was the livery standard). Im sure the 60s were as standard though. Still cracking work and makes no odds to how great it looks!

A quick pic to show what I mean. Not the clearest pic but the cleanest loco I can find this quick in a none sky biased lighting condition. The grilles are clearly a lighter shade than the black. I can accept black ones on the model though tbh especially if its gonna have a blow over of weathering which will make em brown in any case!

I noticed that you still didnt buy the exec roof on 31461! Tut tut! (Nice weathering on that one though)

If that comment is aimed at me Andy then I dont think its called for tbh. I have always been an admirer of Lees work and the progress he has made from first picking up an airbrush. The results that he is now achieving from his humble beginning are first class, however if we blindly give praise for something regardless of what is done then Im affraid it takes just a little bit away from the work thats has been been put in each time someone does it. The whole point of modelling is to recreate the world in miniature and if we are to now call friendly discussion, advice and research into the prototypes boring then there isnt much hope for the hobby as a whole. Lets just tip out a clockwork thomas and watch that go around for a bit. No point in trying to model anything real as thats just a bit boring.

Lee knows the score with me he's known me long enough.

Hi mate. Have to be honest and say its not something I have ever picked up on. I remember seeing them delivered brand new to Thornaby depot when I had the chance to inspect them up close....except I had no interest in this new fangled traction, and all of my pictures taken where black and white! I will have a look on t'interweb, as this particular one might not have any weathering.

And with regards to the 31, the customer agreed we should paint the grilles exec grey, but we couldn't see any difference with the roof colour on the reference pictures we used, He was more than happy with the end result, which is all I aim for  :senile:

Great job as always. Love to check up on this thread. It's nice to see there are some great people on RM Web Lee, also plenty of boring ones! Super work keep it up.

lol, tis the season to be jolly! All of this model trains lark pales into insignificance really....I went to see my Daughter play a star in her nativity play this morning, made me the happiest Daddy in the World. Gets things into perspective  :jester:

Wait until you have to sit through music assemblies with 8-year olds who have just started learning the violin, Lee. You might not be quite so keen then.

Seriously though, my older daughter starts secondary school next year and that's really making me realise they won't be around for ever. We really do have to make the most of it while it lasts and keep things in perspective as you say. Mind you, I wasn't saying that when my double slip was playing up last night though!

Cheers,

Dave

If the customer is happy mate then alls good! Ill be interested to see what you get on the class 60 grilles. I had a bit of a root around and as I said they tend to look black because of how open they are. Someone must have taken a close up detail shot back in the day!

Let there be light!

Another Scottish beast gets the headlamp treatment.

 :-well done

Another batch to be turned into DRS.

11356127485_6eae974769_b.jpg

Been turning this into 593....it was a standard large logo Heljan. Additions have included black headcodes, extended black window surrounds, and Scottie dog. Detailing and weathering next.

11356284043_8fa476de8e_b.jpg

The 47's are finished, the 37's have just had all of the cant rail lining added and are now ready for weathering.

11356198516_4e1f2c94ce_b.jpg

Dapol n gauge Western I have just added bufferbeam detailing to , prior to weathering. Stunning little model.

Remember this? Started it in the Summer, but have just been too busy to do anything with it. It's now sitting on a bookshelf, in the vain hope I will get on with finishing it!
