Grimleygrid
Thanks David, nearing competition! Over the past few evenings I have continued to work on the silos. They have all been given a wash of weathered black as have the platforms which the hopper boxes will sit on. Tomorrow I plan to get them assembled. Hopefully over the weekend we can put them on the layout to see how they look in position. Now to make a start on the handrails for the walk way that straddles four of the silos. Tomorrow we will put the silos on the layout and see how they look with some PCAs alongside.
Jack374
Hi Grimley, I've been enjoying this for a while, and there's loads of really inspiring modelling, especially the hoppers..... Please keep it up and I'd love more pictures..... Thanks Jack.
Grimleygrid
Thanks Jack, I am glad to hear that you have enjoyed the thread so far. You won't be disappointed as I think I may have gone a bit overboard with the photos but hey! Hope you enjoy them! This afternoon we put the silos on the board to see how they looked with some track and stock close by. image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr I couldn't resist a bit of Tractor action although a construction example would have been better, 37425 Concrete Bob perhaps....still Cav's superb 37707 seemed a nice substitute nevertheless! image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr A shot of the five silos image by AP474, on Flickr Now to get the caged ladders painted and added. Grimleygrid
Thanks David. This afternoon I managed to do some work on the caged ladders for the silos. First of all I made some brackets that will hopefully attach the caged ladders to the silos: image by AP474, on Flickr Then I assembled the first of the caged ladders, the one illustrated is for silo one, this allows the workers to get from the ground up to the walkway that straddles silos 1 to 4. image by AP474, on Flickr image by AP474, on Flickr Here you can see all of the caged ladders, from left to right, the five ladders to allow workers to get from the ground to the hopper boxes, the ladder for silo 1 and lastly the ladder for the taller silo 5. image by AP474, on Flickr Just now I glued the brackets onto the two longer ladders: image by AP474, on Flickr Hopefully this week I can get the ladders sprayed with Halfords grey primer and then a top coat sprayed before adding the weathering. Southwich
Hi all, Today I have been working on the handrails for the walkway which sits on the top of the silos. I have only finished the side pieces as it was a very time consuming process. The circular pieces will be made over the next few weeks. Firstly the jig was built: Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Next the cross pieces were cut: Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr After all the handrails were soldered together I taped them to the walkway: Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Please take into consideration that they aren't fully fixed onto the walkway. They also need to be trimmed and sprayed over the next few weeks. As well as doing the handrails today, I have screwed the tops of the baseboards down, to prevent the boards warping. Thanks, Will
Grimleygrid
As there was a brief spell of dry weather in the offing I took full advantage and gave the caged ladders a coat of Halfords grey primer: Now to decide what colour top coat?..... Southwich
Evening all, Not much work done on the layout recently, but the jig for the handrails has been added to the walkway as shown in the following photo: Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr The circular parts of the handrails have also been made up and now need to be glued onto the walkway before being soldered to the straight handrails. After this the bit of the ring that is blocking the walkway will be cut out. Pictures to follow: Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Finally my grandad has soldered up and glued on the handrail for the fifth and larger silo: Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Hopefully some more progress over easter, Thanks, Will

Southwich
Evening all, Due to an overload of exams and homework very little has been done to the layout recently. However a few hours this afternoon resulted in an almost complete walkway, just needing a few more joints soldering and a touch of glue here and there. Over the next few weeks I am aiming it get the walkway sprayed and the ladders added. Pics to follow: Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Untitled by southwichrailway, on Flickr Any feedback is much appreciated, Thanks, Will

Grimleygrid
Thanks David and Bob. Not much progress over the past few weeks although yesterday I sprayed the walkways with Halfords grey primer. Hopefully later today I can get the top coat on to the walkways and caged ladders. Here is a photo of the walkway which straddles the main four silos: image by AP474, on Flickr It is amazing how different the walkway looks even with only the primer applied.
