shreives
Afternoon all. I'm abit of a sucker for shunting and so here we have my 4ft shunting plank it is certainly very basic and simple but it fulfills my needs for hours and now I have the added bonus of dcc sound. There is no particular era set for this as I have a br black pannier sound fitted and a transrail 37 ATM though I'm heading more in the direction of diesel power The track is Peco code 75 finescale and the points have Peco motors mounted underneath I sprayed all the track work first with rail match sleeper grime then I ballasted it after (its all ballasted yet). The grassed areas is just woodland scenics with abit of static grass applied in certain areas. I I still have a few blank areas so any ideas would be welcome guys. Thanks all for lookingStuart
birdseyecircus
Thats nice and tidy Stuart. What kind of wagons do you run on it? Paul
shreives
Hi Paul thank you very much. Iv just been using VGA ,HEA , OCA, and VAAs atm Stuart
mason
This is fantastic, I really like it and its very much to my taste, minimal and simple but very well fine scenically. I don't think it really needs that much else except maybe a half relief rusty water tower in the middle of the boards to the rear in front of the 3 way. And then just a few simple details like barrels n pallets etc Great work Neil
RMweb Premium HillsideDepot Posted January 30, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 30, 2013 I really like that! The gentle curve along the length of the layout is very effective, and something rarely seen, especially on such a small layout. Adrian
rob D2
that's very neat and I live the scenic break bridge, nicely done. The grassy siding , I'm wondering if you can give that some purpose unloading scrap sleepers etc from engineers wagons or suchlike..
ScCa
Stuart, Another cracking simple layout. Looks perfect for practising scenic and other techniques before over commiting to the major projects than never get finished. Scott
Alx
Agreed, this is fantastic! It looks like it could be a small depot/fueling point, so maybe as has been said an old water tank/tower that isn't used anymore? (If you're planning on running diesels) I think any little detail kits you can buy (pallets, oil drums and other yard clutter) can fit on any layout! Kind regards, Alex. shreives
Thank you all for all the kind comments and feed back. I have decided now that I want to keep it a shunting plank after spending hours moving wagons to and throw. I'm still undecided with the blank area by the 3way point I like the ideas put forward by you guys. I was also thinking of a small half relief building there any ideas on this ? Suggestions and comments very much appreciated. Stuart
shreives
Not to much to report ATM. I was helping my brother at the tonbridge show with smithdown rd junction last weekend and it has given me abit of a boost to get going again. So this week I ordered myself a lens decoder for my class 20 and some other bits for the layout to get me going. There are lots of scenic bits to crack on with now which I will try and do as and when funds allow me to I couldn't resist this Stuart
shreives
Quick update I have now put a concrete fencing along the back of the layout from the hard standing area to the line side hut. I still need to add greenery along the front of it and I need to get some more trees for the bridge area I'm still undecided as to what I'm going to put behind the the fencing . Next up couplings should be fun. A few pics
shreives
Would help if I attached these haha Stuart

RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted February 23, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 23, 2013 I like the way you have resisted temptation to put that fence straight along the backscene. The small gap between the fence and backscene somehow seems to make the layout appear deeper.
shreives
Thanks for your kind comments guys. There are lots of little bits and details to get on now. I want to get another sound chipped deseil in br blue but what to get hmm. I'm thinking 25 or 20 Stuart

Rivercider
In your first set of pictures it really looks like the track also goes somewhere at the right hand end, have you got any plans for that corner, a mirror perhaps? (feel free to ignore that) cheers
A1X
looks like a great layout.
CourthsVeil
That's really one very neat layout - like the gentle curve the track makes - also the gap between fence and back. A few half relief buildings at the back - not too high, perhaps… Pls resist the temptation to fill the free space with too much structures/litter. But a mirror at the right end is a great idea, another measure to let the whole thing appear more spacious. Go along with this cracking layout - I'm eagerly waiting for updates. shreives
Thank you all again for your kind comments and suggestions Rivercider I really like the idea with the mirror I will certainly try this out. Courthsvale I agree I don't want to fill all the spaces that are available I like having the greenery And open spaces. I'm trying to get that fine balance so that it just works . I have been lurking on eBay the last few days watching sound chipped 25s and so on. But I have come to the conclusion that it would actually be cheaper for me to just buy one from my local model shop. I have also been looking at getting another body for my sound chipped transrail 37 the railfreight largo logo grey one is they one I have been looking at because it fits perfectly on to the new chaise with speaker housing. A quick question for you guys in the know couplings ? I have been looking into types 3 link is going to be a problem when trying to take a wagon back out from the shed . Using kadees is not really the way I want to go because I don't want to have to put magnets in the track plus I don't have a set shunting sequence I like to e able to dump any old wagon where ever I like. So my idea is to shorten the standard couplings that are already there so that it closes the gap abit but still easy enough to uncouple. Suggestions, ideas, comments greatfully received . Thanks stuart
shreives
Managed to get a little bit of scenery done earlier today its not a lot but it makes a difference I feel Before And after Tommys not very happy with me he prefers n gauge haha Thanks Stuart
shreives
I managed to get the layout out in the sun last week while we had spring for a day. Iv also had ago at changing my transrail 37 into a large logo one by changing the body's (not as easy as I thought) I'm pleased with it though the buffers need changing end details adding and finish the weathering. Work 37408 Some light weathering more to be done And name plates. Thanks Stuart
